Never liked that stadium tbh, always thought it looked like it was built cheaply by bits bought from B&Q.

I know it's only a friendly game, but they've just come back from 2-0 down against the Italian champions in their first ever afternoon game at the new stadium and the atmosphere is absolutely dogshit. They will be very successful for years to come but at what cost? Arsenal/Chelsea/Fulham 2.0.

Could this be the shortest tenancy in history? Seems like their move to a nice plush stadium hasn't stopped their knuckle-draggers from keeping the club firmly locked in the 70's

A single unitary authority for urban Dorset
I'd guess the trouble in home ends regarding standing will settle down when everyone figures out what areas it's "ok" as you get in every ground.

But as an away fan, it's a ridiculous setup. I mentioned it at the time but I see more trouble occurred during/after the Watford game between the two sets. I'd just love to know who thought a stadium where both sets of fans share entrances and concourses would be a good idea? Where the segregation in the stand itself is so small you can literally touch the nearest home fans if you so wished (and them you). And locating the away end exactly in the middle of the home fans exit scrum towards the station with no apparent security. It's all just asking for agro.

And if trouble kicks off around games against Watford and Bournemouth, what the hell happens when say Spurs or Chelsea turn up?

There was even fighting in the home between the same set of fans!

The trouble between both sets of fans was right at the top of the Upper section - is that where there are no "seats" as such...

Didn't notice any trouble on the concourse so they must have sorted that out...

west ham fan on the radio yesterday saying it was the stewards fault for acting like meatheads and being aggressive with fans, most of them look like gormless doormen going off some of the pictures. tend to think he was bending the truth a wee bit though. also that the old "standing section" is now mixed with the modern football wankers who sit down and play with their phone all game, which causes some bother/complaints. seems the club haven't thought the almost doubling of attendances through very well, and obviously most some of their following are clowns. on the plus side karren brady got a good telling off.

Well think they were hacked off we weren't told to sit down all game like they are.

The stewards said to us they try for a while but give up!

Not sure if the fact we scored 4 goals had anything to do with it (after all not often we score 4 away from home!)

When you put contracted stewards who have no idea how to deal with football fans in front of a group of large football fans, don't be surprised that it causes issues.

One positive out of this is that it has at least brought the safe standing argument to the forefront in this country in a way that not a lot else could.

Some of these problems you could see coming from a mile off, though, it really is embarrassing.

Nothing
From around 2003 (the year we were relegated with Cole, Defoe, Johnson etc) the crowd changed at UP. Always felt that there was a shift in.the mentality amongst a lot of fans around me, like there was a big shift in the type of fans they were getting through the door. Nothing to really back this up mind, but it seemed to go from more placid, "same old West Ham" -types, to more demanding and vociferous people.

I say that as up until that time, everyone stood on all lower tiers (especially the ends and the sides next to the corners) pretty much throughout the game, was just the way it was, no-one complained - there were the family and upper tier areas that were the generally agreed areas were everyone would sit bar goals etc. Around 2003 iirc was also when the council, via the club, started issuing "sit down" letters to season ticket holders. Rarely if ever got club stewards asking fans to do it (I remember a couple of occasions for when one person would stand), but probably from then til about 3/4 years ago in the Bobby Lower most people did then sit down bar corners, goal threats, goals etc.

3/4 years ago was when, for some reason, everyone started standing throughout the game (at least in the Bobby Lower, East lower and Brooking lower). No complaints, but it then created an expectation in the new stadium - and with efforts from the club to sort-of place people in the new stadium where they'd sat in the old - that the same would be apparent.

New stadium, new stewards not controlled by the club, and problems have built in every single home game this season. Never saw this sort of fan v fan stuff at the Boleyn, at least not in my 23+ years. Doesn't excuse what happened of course, but this was building and the Watford game - and result no doubt helped escalate - it reached it's nadir. Lack of policing and relating to bigger London derbies is a misnomer right now since any visit of Watford doesn't require a big police presence; am sure that when Spurs etc arrive there'd be far bigger police numbers in and out the ground. Even if we'd beaten Watford this would have possibly only delayed things until the next game, some sort of overspill was going to happen.

It's been a farce of a season so far for West Ham. Would love it if it carries on.

How much longer is this going to be blamed on stewards and police instead of the knuckle-dragging c***, still living in the 70s/80s who think it is acceptable to cause chaos at football games?

And the seemingly terrible preparations made by the club themselves?

No, I would bypass this before questioning why any individual feels the need to go to a football match and try to attack people who support a different team to them

Extra police presence was requested but turned down because the radio system in the stadium isn't up to scratch.

People attack other people all the time, the cause isn't West Ham or football, it's merely a mask.

Is it becoming a weekly thing for fights at West Ham this season? Pathetic. Bunch of dicks who've had four pints of Fosters and watched Green Street a few too many times kicking of with people.

Let's face it, if every other club had such minimal / non existent stewarding and policing as West Ham do currently, we'd probably see more trouble elsewhere as well.

Idiots are a sad fact of life. OK maybe WHU have a few more than most? You need sufficient measures to manage the situation, as every other club seems to.

at some point it stops being the clubs fault. probably around the point 10 scumbags try and (hilariously) fail to mob one boro fan all on his own.

west ham fans are going to have some tricky away trips this season if they keep this cowardly shit up.

It's almost certainly some guys who were doing the same shit at the old stadium, but with more side streets to hide in, and less media attention around the stadium, they didn't get noticed as much

Rugby league supporters having a pop at each other on Saturday in the Hull vs Salford final, sadly yobbish behavior from fans seems to be everywhere.

"modern football wankers" who like sitting down? Or children and the elderly who can't see a thing if everyone stands up.

It's not like a terrace where you can move to another area. You pay for a seat.

forgive me for forgetting the quotation marks for that particular generalisation.

but yeah, the point was they've supposedly done a poor job in seating fans in the new ground. the "proper fans" who will inevitably stand up are mixed with the "modern football wankers" who will inevitably complain when it interferes with their latest selfie upload.
