Could be interesting, not sure if it's been done before...

I work at Persimmon Homes as an Architects Technician, Basically I'm on AutoCAD for 8 hours a day drawing plans of houses, occasionally I get to go on site but not very often and it only seems to be when things go wrong.
I'm studying my degree in Construction at Plymouth Uni (Funded by Persimmon) and will be going to the University of the West of England to study Architecture in September with the intention of becoming an Architect, not sure if I will still carry on with Persimmon after my uni degree (they have it in your contract you're to work for the company for at least 4 years if they're funding a university course...bit naughty but I suppose they're looking after their investment) or go into something completely different. Designing football stadiums would be the dream job, just can't imagine spending nearly £90,000 on an architecture degree and churning out the same shitty new builds every week.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
I'm in PR and one of my clients does whole house eco refits, so I spend half a day a week working next to a guy who is an architect using autocad.

I also do web design, freelance writing, promotions, social media gubbins, advertising, necromancy and macrame.

Pretty much in onelove's position but with a civil engineering degree... so more onsite, and accommodating for the every whim of my architect overlords. Would also be very happy designing sports stadia to my own fancy, but don't imagine any clients in Qatar would want an asbestos-free version of York Street or Victory Park gracing the world stage in 2022.

Work in a warehouse days and freelance translate too, which is better paid but can be unreliable if you won't do the dull stuff, which I don't.

I am the Brand Manager of Virgin Radio here in Dubai. We have almost 2 million listeners a day and we're pretty trendy.

I basically overlook the Marketing department and make sure the brand is seen as concerts and events, plus I overlook contests that run on air and have to create new promotion concepts that run on air, online and on ground.

Our main niche where I work is industrial shot blasters and painting (I think we have two of the biggest off-site facilities in the UK).

I initially went in as a trainee QS down the 'industrial' end. They deal with on-site blasting and painting for bridges, motorway gantries, football stadiums (painted Wembley arch, Millennium Stadium) lots of Olympics stuff (orbital was one, cable car), oil tanks, refinery pipework, ships down in Portsmouth etc. I then got the choice of staying there or moving to our 'decorating' division, which I took because I didn't hold too much interest in that side of things. Decorating is pretty self explanatory. We did hospitals, office blocks, hotels, army barracks, private yachts etc.

One of my favourite stories from decorating was down at either Pestana or Langham Hotel in London. Can't remember which but in one of the top suites, there was a piece of really fancy, hand painted, gold leaf wallpaper above the beds, which was only the size of a coaster. Area wise it was nothing but cost something silly like £5k. A site guy came in only about an hour after it had been put on and rubbed his fingers across it when remarking how nice it looked.

I then got made redundant from that position about 5 years ago but 3 days later they invited me back in a new position within our off-site side of things, which has evolved into a Coating Inspector type role. In short, there are hundreds of different paints and some that need to be applied at certain thicknesses at certain temperatures depending on where the steel is going i.e. exposed steelwork inside a warehouse will require different coating to something that's out at sea and exposed to high salt in the air. Paperwork wise, it's crazy. Everything we get here is piece-meal and erected on site as opposed to where I was when I first started where you went to site to do the work. Pieces vary from small bits of pipework all the way to 50m long beams. We painted The Kelpies in Scotland, for those who are aware of that.

I prefer to be office based, so what I do now is pretty ideal and everything is under one roof at the facility. We have 3 facilities so I very occasionally travel to one of them in Doncaster but that's as far as I go. Only downside is the drive - anywhere from 45-60 minutes but I'm used to it having done it for a while now. Company car is a plus!

Suppose it doesn't sound too interesting but it's not too bad. Certainly a lot more to it than just lathering paint on, which people don't understand (or want to!).

Did you do your HNC and HND, too?

I did two years on each when I first started working where I do, and it was nothing to do with my day job. Problem was, there's no surveying qualification per se I don't think. A lad on my course completed the first two years to HNC level then went and did a PT course at Nottingham Uni, which lasted 7 years!

I'm a badass chef motherfucker
You get paid for having sex with the mothers of badass chefs?

Basically I fix lottery machines and shit.
Is the latter a compulsory part of the job?

I basically overlook the Marketing department and make sure the brand is seen as concerts and events, plus I overlook contests that run on air.
Just a pointer, it's probably best if your boss asks to say that you 'oversee' those things rather than 'overlook' them.

If it's not obvious I make a living talking bollocks.

Full-time student studying History & European Studies and 30+ hours a week as a griller in Nando's.

The former is fun, the latter is not. At least it funds a trip a month.

Yeah just finished my HNC in Construction management, did it in 1 year 2.5 days a week.

A thread to just brag about your job and how much you've spent on your degree?

Would you have created this thread if you stacked shelves in the co-op?

Ah right, I did 1 day a week 8am-9pm.

Same for the HND. More free time in that one because the 2nd year is a group project thing (assuming it's not changed since I completed it a few years back).

Don't be daft. I was just interested. I technically haven't paid anything toward my degree.

Well settled in comfortable retirement since a fat tory bastard, whose name rhymes with Tickles, did away with my most recent job leading a team dealing with environment, climate change, coastal and rural policy in the E of E - thank you Jabba.

My main work, prior to that final career fling with policy development and delivery in the civil service, was as a business adviser to farmers, small rural businesses, food and fresh produce suppliers - again in E of E but also Eastern Europe.

Unemployed scrounger...

Fucked my back working retail, which then gave me depression/anxiety about getting another job which then led to that towards leaving the house. I also care for the missus who is suicidal, so yeah...

But before that, I worked as a shelf stacker at asda, had 4 different jobs there, worked on the trolleys at one point, moved onto a checkout, moved onto Home & Leisure, then moved to a different store and worked on the freezers on nights.
