I thought I could start this thread as it could attract some interest because he might end up in England and I always talk about him.

First of all, let me just say Bolanos is a brilliant player. He's had 3 phenomenal years in South American football and he's ready to take on a higher level.

Lets go over his stats.

44 goals in 75 appearances for Emelec
6 goals in 12 appearances for Ecuador

And if you think that its just because he plays in Ecuador, well he's got about 16 goals in the last 3 continental competitions leading Emelec to a 2015 Copa Libertadores quarter final and 2014 Copa Sudamericana quarter finals.

Enough of that. Here are some of the rumours.

Brighton: This seems most likely as English sources are reporting this. However there are some people saying he "doesn't fancy the championship". I'm not confident he'll succeed in England given how many good South American players do poorly in England, and also the fact he'll have to learn English, but he is a very good player though and at his prime he would do very well in the championship.

Espanyol: I only saw one source say this, and considering Caicedo is at Espanyol and that Espanyol is based in a spanish speaking country, its a very possible destination. I'm much more confident he'll do well in Spain as well.

Fenerbahce: Turkey is not the ideal place, but considering Fenerbahce is a big club, and a pretty good team as well, it could be a good place for him. However I'm not sure he'll start because of Van Persie.

Those are a few that I've seen have interest in them. Considering some of the facts regarding South Americans going to Europe for the first time, what do you think will happen?

If he can embrace the physicality of the English game he'd do fine at Brighton. If he doesn't fancy that side of the game then he'd probably flop. Would be interesting to see him vs Flint and Baker at the Gate!

He was linked with Brighton heavily in the summer I believe, they've obviously been doing some homework on him for a while.

Antonio Valencia went to Villareal for 2M
Enner Valencia went to Pachuca for 3M
Christian Noboa went to Rubin Kazan for 1M

All when leaving Ecuador.

Brighton are offering 7.3M for Bolanos.

Something interesting I should mention.

it's easy to score goals in south america, he'll get shown up as the average player he is, should he move to the physically demanding european leagues

Does that make Roger Johnson better than Enner Valencia then?

Just because South Americans are generally cheap doesn't make them bad.

God no.

I was being sarcastic, Roger Johnson is an awful player, one we wasted a lot of money on.

South Americans are pretty dire though.

Considering the best Defender, Striker and player in the world are all South American, that's a pretty bold statement.

Yeah, Jags is a proper old school British defender. Shawcross is also worth a shout.

Certainly better than your lightweight South Americans anyway.

Haha Jagielka better than Diego Godin? You're delusional. Atletico Madrid have a rock solid defence, Godin is excellent at set pieces, has a strong tackle and is difficult to get past. I don't even rate South American defenders either. Thiago Silva and David Luiz!? I don't rate them at all. There aren't many world class defenders nowadays but Godin is one of the few ones.

What Champions League finalist medal does Jagielka have? Or what international cups does Jagielka have? or 4th place in the World Cup? Godin pisses all over any European defender except for the Italians, where its debatable there.

I heard a few weeks ago that he was likely to be heading to Mexico - are any Mexican clubs still in the running or does Europe look like the most likely destination now?

Not sure, I've seen some sources say Mexico, and to be honest it wouldn't be bad for him to go to Mexico either as its a step up from Ecuador.

Emelec tweeted that they will be selling no more players.

Looks like Bolanos is staying put in Guayaquil.
