Could I interest you in my life story whilst your asking all these questions as well?

I was going to post "why are you giving the OP a hard time", but I've just noticed the other threads he/she has started.

Fucking Weirdo!

First year at Reading Uni highlights included: The Who, Kilburn and the High Roads, Roxy Music, Al Stewart, Fairport Convention, Van de Graff Generator, Man, Medicine Head, Curved Air and many more. Also, visiting mates at Leeds Uni, Jethro Tull & Tir na Nog plus Martin Carthy in the Pack Horse.

We subsequently had such treats as The Kinks, Humble Pie, Vinegar Joe, Stackridge, Ducks Deluxe, Doors (without Jim Morrison), ELO, Henry Cow........culminating in 1973 Reading Festival (I was packing bog rolls for 1971 and milking cows/feeding pigs for 1972):

The Enemy
Boomtown Rats
Reverend & The Makers x3
The Beat
Jamie T (Soon to be x2)
Circa Waves x4
Kasabian
Maccabees

I saw so many of them within a short period of time that I have lost me urge to see live music, plus its so expensive with travel etc...I'm sure I'll get the bug again.

We used to be regulars at Cambridge Folk Festival but the last one was 2002 (Joe Strummer and Billy Bragg headlined). Festival and gig days are largely long gone but I've decided to work back and see what I can remember from recent years:
  • Jethro Tull in Ely Cathedral (Locomotive Breath was awesome)
  • Alabama 3 (frequent)
  • Tir Na Nog
  • Dr Feelgood (frequent)
  • Martin Carthy, with and without family, a few times
  • Robyn Hitchcock (with Soft Boy buddy Kimberley Rew and REM's Peter Buck)
  • Dylan, Christy Moore, The Cranberries, Waterboys, Gaslight Anthem and a few more at Feis 2011
  • Edgar Winter
  • George Thorogood and the Destroyers
  • Seasick Steve
  • Kathryn Tickell
  • Billy Bragg
  • Fairport Convention
Highlight performances over perhaps a dozen Cambridge Festivals back into the 70's include:
  • Jimmy Page and Roy Harper
  • De Dannan
  • Saw Doctors
  • Levellers
  • Eric Bibb
  • John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers
  • Tom Robinson
https://www.cambridgelivetrust.co.uk/folk-festival/history/past-artists

The memorable gigs from the 70s to the turn of the century include:
  • Dead Kennedys supported by Steve Harley
  • Ramones
  • Ruts
  • Specials
  • Madness
  • Jack Bruce Band

Recommend anyone looking to get into a newer band to give The Sherlocks a listen, they are a young Sheffield band, pretty decent too.

Their best song.

Seen them in Derby and London. Met them in Derby (really nice lads), and at Rock City someone that travels with their band (Think the sound guy) remembered who I was and came for a chat. Think I was remembered as not many Southerners are into them/know them....That or I was such a mess at the Derby gig.

I made the mistake of booking a concert for Sport Relief. It was billed as JLS, Olly Murs and Rizzle Kicks.

As we queued up to get in we were comfortably the oldest couple there, in fact, other than parents, we were the oldest there by some 15+ years!

Turned out the Sport Relief part of the concert was actually just to give all proceeds to Sport Relief and it was the full JLS concert with Olly Murs, Rizzle Kicks and the cast of fucking Miranda doing a bit of Sport Relief warm up.

Their song which went "I wanna make love in 3D" was the highlight of the night though, what a band.

The lead singer, Aston, is from Peterborough, and used to be a fairly good footballer at youth level. I played for a team called PSV (Peterborough and Surrounding Villages), and he was in the year above. Played right wing and scored a fair few goals.

Their songs are shite though. The company I used to work for was promoting their debut tour so had to endure them singing covers for almost 3 hours two nights running. It was awful.
