We have barely anyone on a contract at the moment, among those not with a contract is Frear, Clough, Raccine and Bennett.

Apart from KMB none of our starting eleven of choice is on a contract.

I suppose you can take some comfort knowing that even if you dont go up, and one way or another its obviously a flick of a coin job if you do or not, that few clubs at this level could compete with the wages you offer, but like me, surely you must fear a couple of those may depart for pastures new if you don't?

Rip the soul from the club? Come on.

Players come and go, life goes on.

Maybe the club is a bit strong, so on reflection I happily retract that bit, but it would certainly rip the team apart, if all those five players I mentioned moved on this summer, especially as I think every one of them have rightly played in every game they have been available for.
Though for the team (and the club) I hope I am wrong, I do fear Payne, Deverdics and Ragget, whilst not certs to leave are strong favourites to and despite the continued support from a great chairman, I further fear we may not have the money to replace them and most certainly not like for like.

Yeah, if you slip or fall somewhere ring a claims company up and pretend that you are more badly injured than you are and that it has ruined your life, and get loads of money paid out that you don't really deserve.

A figure usually comes with 20% sell-on as standard, with an initial fee and sometimes incentive bonuses i.e. x amount after 5, 10, 15 etc appearances.

They come to that figure based on quite a few things. How long the player has been at the Club, how many games he's played, importance to the team, value of current contract, value of new contract offered by the current team, whether he's going up a league(s), how many other Clubs offered him something, value of any bids previously by both his new clubs and other clubs i.e. if someone offered £100k with 6 months of his contract to go, you'll not pick him up for £5k! Etc, etc

You're talking about Dover here not Tunbridge Wells, trust me me loads would! lol

Thanks for that comment - anyway most of the squad live in Essex/London and none of them live in or around Dover as far as I'm aware - CK Jr probably nearest in Canterbury.

I'd be gutted if Craig Eastmond, Tom Bolarinwa and/or Ross Worner left, but virtually all of last seasons squad (with the exception of Nick Bailey, who is/was in talks) are signed up until the end of next season. No news officially from the club, but according to the local press, Eastmond, Bolarinwa and Dan Wishart may have extended to 2018

Now we're in the National League, Cloughy can return to Sutton

I think when he arrived there were a few people wondering why we had signed a player from Sutton, whilst your fans were gutted that he had left. However, he went straight into the team and has played pretty much every game since. Had he played more games last season he might have been named player of the season, but having only arrived after Christmas that might have been harsh on those who had been around a bit longer. Needless to say that he was named fans player of this season and put in so many man of the match performances, particularly in the last couple of months, that it is more a case of can anyone play better than him. He was good when he arrived, he is much better now...oh, and in answer to your question, no you can't have him back...I'm just worried that we might not be good enough to keep him.

Apparently the only youth player we offered a contract has been stolen by Bristol City.

Funny old thing, they had Aden Baldwin from us a couple of months ago...who was one of the two youth players we had awarded a contract before this season.

Any idea how Aden's done since moving there? Hopefully he's impressing their development coaches, I think he's got the potential to make it at that level, great attitude and work ethic.

Can someone explain how the compensation system works?

A player under the age of 24* has to be offered a contract with their current club on greater or equal terms to their current deal. If this player rejects the contract and signs for another club the "selling" club can pursue compensation or agree to a transfer fee (or wave their right to any). If the clubs agree to a deal then no tribunal is involved.

The purpose of the tribunal set fee is to compensate the "selling" club for the development of the player and set a near-market rate. It does not take in to account any offers previously on the player but it takes in to account any factors which the tribunal panel deem relevant, which normally includes the player's age, number of first team appearances, length of time at the club (i.e. from what youth level, if any, they came through). They also try to base it on recent transfer fees for similar players. Speculation for future potential is normally included through the use of sell-on clauses.

Tribunal panels are supposedly independent panels chosen but not directly informed by the FA.

There have been cases in the past where a "buying" club has offered a fee to avoid tribunal and the "selling" club has rejected and ended up getting less. It is somewhat of a lottery, but it has generally been seen in the past as more favourable to the "selling" club - though normally neither side is actually happy with the final fee, which probably indicates that they do a good job of being fair!

Not that it applies at this level, but players on rolling contracts as opposed to fixed term contracts are not eligible for tribunal set fees either.

*U23 is the rule in Scotland, meaning that if a Scottish club signs a 23 year old from an English club then no tribunal fee is set, but U23 it would happen. Honestly I'm not completely clear on why this is allowed to be the case, but it is. Clayton Donaldson from York being a citable example.

I remember that happening to us back in our Championship days.
We were offered £500000 for someone, i think it was Jack Lester to Forest but not certain, we turned it down and ended up with less than £300000 from a tribunal.
