Brentford ground sharing with Chelsea :fish:
Wasn't saying they'd go for it, but that none of the stadia near to us would work anyway.

To be fair, it seems we also asked Wembley if they'd be alright with it, before getting scared off by the rent they wanted.

Yeah, didn't mean it in a condescending manner, just shows how far you've come in the last couple of years to even be talking about ground sharing with some of the biggest teams/stadia in the world

Bournemouth are a great club who I have a lot of time for. I'm a big fan of Eddie Howe and with Lincoln and Newcastle having nothing to play for, I might turn into a Cherries fan for the final few games of the season.

McClaren is doing things the right way at Derby and they were unfortunate not to make the step up last season, so I hope they make it too. I went to uni in Norwich so I've got a soft spot for them as well, so they can win the playoffs.

Ideally, Brentford, Bournemouth and Derby for me. Brentford just for the trip (if they stay at Griffin Park, 4 corners, 4 pubs!!!), Bournemouth just because I, for some reason, have a soft spot for them, and Derby the same, though if I managed to do that away trip I'd be delighted too, know Derby as a city quite well, plenty of decent boozers there too.

Unless we miraculously recover, we won't go up.

Again.

My club maybe pretty successful on the pitch currently, but off the pitch we're still in League One in various ways. The ticketing is chaotic enough already for example, almost impossible unless you're an ST holder. The stadium is obviously sub-par. It would be hilarious and ridiculous if we got promoted, frankly.

But if we did manage it, then the money would utterly transform the club, it's just so vastly different to the income we have now.

A lot of clubs think the money will transform them but in truth it rarely does, unless there's a change in attitude.
Blackpool should be a stable championship club instead of a club heading for league 1. You could argue Karl Oyston pocketed all of the PL money, but that wouldn't explain clubs like Wigan, Reading etc.

Southampton are the only promoted club I can think of who changed the way they did things. Their academy and scouting departments are probably the best in the country. They are always creating and selling hot young talent. When they aren't doing this they're identifying players for the first team. When they sacked Nigel Adkins, some years ago, we all thought they were mad. They bring in an unknown Pochettino. He does so well as to justify the sacking of Adkins. The club knew they would lose Pochettino to a fancied side, so lined up Koeman for when he left. No doubt they have eyes on someone else should Koeman suddenly depart.

Bournemouth play very good football. There is no reason (if you tighten up at the back) for you not to stay in the premiership once you get there. But the powers that be have to have a vision for the club that goes beyond getting into the premiership.

p.s. My own club Liverpool didn't have a vision for itself until FSG took over and appointed Brendan Rogers. This is no mean feat for any club.

Everyone and their dog had already identified Rodgers as a quality manager.

The money is the biggest myth, a majority of it will be swallowed up by wages and agent fees, and that's before transfer costs.

Bournemouth, Brentford and Derby for me too. Ideally Derby as Champions, looking at the table that won't happen though.

It was just 4 years ago I went to Bourenmouth in midweek to watch us lose 2-0. They were just a bog standard League 1 side.

It would be brilliant if they make the Prem.

Not sure why anyone would want 'Boro up here. Shit club, shit fans, shit stadium located in a shithole.
Strange response from a newcastle fan...oh no wait a sec.

Anywho, Bournemouth, Brentford, Wolves.

Be funny seeing the average premiership attendance falling because of bournemouth going up.

Interesting post and one that I read nodding my head through most of it.

The powers that be here seem to have a plan, up until now. However I doubt that plan accounted for being in the position we find ourselves in, at least so soon. The manager has a 'type' of player that he goes for, generally younger with pace and a good touch, with room for improvement. It means there is re-sale value if we need. And normally we add a couple of players at a time and try to keep a consistent core.

I just really hope that if we do manage promotion, or even if we don't, that we stick to that plan. I would absolutely hate us to go out and get half a dozen or more journeymen Premiership players on massive wages and replace the lads who've worked to get us up from the lower reaches of League One. Equally true if we stay down and start signing some of those journeymen forced to drop down a level. Southampton showed us that some players who worked up from League One can go through the Championship and be capable at top flight level. And also showed how to replace those who weren't quite capable with a mixture of home based and foreign purchased talent.

I agree the risk is always there for clubs going up to get all starry-eyed and excitable, and fritter the money away. There was to be a middle ground between that and the Blackpool situation.

I think unlike many clubs promoted over the years, if we do manage it we have just so much work to do off the pitch, there would be little choice but to keep a good chuck of money back for those works.
