We had some utter dross between 2009-2013. Two that stick out to me are.

Kieron St Amie.

Charlie Taylor (I think that was his name).

Where are the Northampton town fans to regale us with tales of their self styled legend of African football? :D

Who's that?
And surely this thread is the right place to highlight the fascinating strange story of Alistair Slowe?

As far as I'm aware he was quoted as saying he was "a legend of ghanian football" wasn't he? :D

Elliot Benyon deserves a mention, had high hopes for him after he signed him being born in High Wycombe so i thought he'd at least try for his hometown club but was probably one of the worst strikers we ever signed.

This gives me the opportunity to rehash the following tale, which may strike a chord with our Plymouth brethren. I was there, at the Steelworks End in the days when there was a steelworks (rusting) and slag heaps at the Steelworks End. George McLean was one of the worst no 9s I had to suffer, along with Frank Large, in my early days at Holker Street. Big balding brylcreamed 32 yr old from Paisley (wish I could find a photo). It didn't help that he was signed from Wukkinton. This describes one of his 9 goals in the shirt.

Third division game between Barrow AFC and Plymouth Argyle back on November 9 1968. A.J. Wilkins was also there and later wrote:

"Plymouth weren't expecting any supporters and so hadn't claimed any complimentary tickets. When two of us appeared at the players' entrance, [Plymouth] manager Billy Bingham asked referee Ivan Robinson for his two tickets and he duly obliged. In the 77th minute, with the score at 0-0, George McLean fired a mis-hit [sic] across the Plymouth goal and Irish Republic goalkeeper Pat Dunne came out for a routine collection. The referee tried to jump out of the way, but the result was a perfect back-heel into the unguarded net. The final score: 1-0. Waiting for the tram home, I got talking to a man with a large black bag. 'At the match, were you? Then you know about the goal?' I said. 'Know it? I scored it,' was the stunning reply."

I don't remember any trams or even tram tracks in Barrow in 1968 (it closed in 1932) but the rest rings true.

I think you can name this the Andre Blackman thread and have done with it.

And an honourable mention for Charlie Sherringham who would struggle to get into a pub 5 a side team if it weren't for his old man.

No one, and I mean no one beats Mark Flashman (well apart from anyone taking a shot at goal).

I think he played for us for free at one point??? Definitely not worth the money.
Yeah, came to us late in the season we went down from League 1. Why Tis thought he was somehow going to help us I have no idea. Utter desperation.

Under Boothroyd it was more like American football

Alfie Pavey was awful in his loan spell with us. His sub appearance against Kiddy had to be seen to be believed, we were 3-0 up at the time and ended up lucky to cling on to a point. Don't think I've ever seen a substitution ruin a team as much as it did for us that day.

In Muggleton's defence he's improved absolutely rapidly since about Christmas time. He's still only just about average, which says a lot about where he was when he joined us, but I wouldn't be that harsh on him just yet.

Fortune was an absolute disgrace during his time with us. In his prime he was an absolute rock when Charlton were in the CL places under Curbishley and was not far off an England call up IIRC. I was expecting him to have declined physically, but what struck me most about him was the fact that he quite palpably didn't give a shit, which makes Robson's decision to make him captain even more ludicrous.

Charlie Taylor is another shout. Not sure what made Stimson think that a player who scored 8 in 27 for Sutton the previous season warranted a two year deal.

Charlie Taylor was awful. I'll never forget when he gave that Swindon player a standing kick to the face in the JPT Southern Final and got himself sent off. Never before have I been so baffled as to what on Earth got into his head at that moment.

I also could not rate Michael Leary or St Amie any lower.

These are all good shouts for terrible players who've played for us.
I'm baffled as to what Simpson saw in Charlie Taylor.
I'm also baffled in comprehending how Tommy Fraser managed to play for so long at League 1 level, unless the management at Brighton and Hove Albion were spooked by his uncle.

I don't think Pavey can be held solely responsible. At least he tried, while bringing on KMB with 30 min to go was a disaster when you need someone to close down players and keep the ball

I missed out on most of our conference dross as I started watching in our first season back in the league having just moved to York, but one that stands out for me is Jamal Fyfield. I saw him play against Port Vale and he didn't look like a professional footballer. Now at Welling United.

Special mention for Malvind Benning who came to us on loan from Walsall, and managed to be not quite as good as Femi Ilesanmi who was attracting brickbats on our forum every week. Inevitably, he's now been signed by Mansfield.

Jamal wasn't a bad player in the Conference, just ended up like a lot of our Conference Play Off winning squad that when they went up, they didn't make the step up.

This is probably true enough and I'd have to doubt he's the worst player to ever put on a York shirt, but that's probably the worst individual performance I've seen. So far.

It speaks volumes that the only remaining player from that conference promotion side still at the club is Michael Ingham, and he'll surely not be starting much next season.

That is if he signs on, you never know with Ingham. One minute he is staying the next he's going.

If you're referring to his goalkeeping style, then part of the problem is that he's always staying (on his line)...

Given this some thought, gonna go with Steve Livingstone... Or Trevor Molloy... Roddy Collins managed to fill our squad with them back in 2001/2002 period.

Thiugh there have been a load of players who had such limited impact I don't even know we could call them shite. Around the time we were using about 60 players in an average season.
Honourable mentions to Marco Pierre-Gbarssin, Miguel Commingues, Some left back from Leeds or somewhere whose name I forget... Ben Parker or something, and Jeremy Helan.

Last season brought us the non-delights of Georg Iliev and Raphael Speigel.
