I heard it was going to be lady who played the vicar of Dibley.
Edit. Caroline Quentin. Cheers Google.
Edit. I mean the doctor is going to be played by Quentin not that she played the vicar of Dibley. That was Dawn French who isn't in the running to be the doctor.
Apologies.

Jodie Whittaker, her out of Broadchurch, is bookies clear favourite but that's probably cos she's out of Broadchurch, Chibnall is taking over and Olivia Coleman is too big for the role.

They could do a lot worse than Marshall tbf. He's quite Doctor-ish but would be a dull, dull choice and a bit Matt Smith lite. Matt Smith, btw, will never ever be topped as the Doctor, him and his first series were peak Doctor Who.

I don't mind them giving it a go, I think of anything where they can try a female approach it is Dr who because really it doesn't have to be type to a stereotype like say James Bond does (for me that has to be white sexist male...due to character) People who think Sci Fi cannot be led by females need to remember Star Trek made this change years ago when their 4th 'Captain' was a female.

would switch to a male companion, i'd like them though to try something like Jamie......my favorite companion from all history, a companion found from previous history who them explores all new things.......would be different to the 'modern companion with numerous issues' approach.

With The BBC's pc bollocks i'm surprised it's not a black lesbian,i won't be watching a show that should have been left alone in our memories but as usual The BBC have destroyed a show because of their agenda.

Why can't doctor Who be a women mate?

Because i'm an old cnut who believes change for the sake of it is not always a good thing. :told:

Do you know how many times the Doctor Who actor has changed by any chance?

Think the Master/Missy character was enough to bin the idea the Doctor can't be female. Michelle Gomez exceptional.

Of course they can and they do a fantastic job in the NHS but a woman playing this doctor is just plain wrong in my opinion I agree with Mogwli.
I just don't understand the problem. Why does the gender of the actor matter?

Exactly. I am a big fan of Doctor Who (classic and new who) and I am totally excited to see Jodie as #13 (was already excited when Michele Gomez came as Missy/Master). Can't wait for the new season with her , excellent choice. Thank you BBC

Tbh Dirk I haven't watched the bloody thing for about 25 years. I just find it funny/ baffling why anybody would get worked up by the gender of the actor. It's just really weird.

Yup. Given the character's an alien that assumes a new appearance every few years it seems rather ODD to insist it always has to appear in male form, doesn't it really?

My only real problem......and one that is now starting to cause real issues this evening on the forums is the comments from the new producer/writer of the show who has said he was always after a woman and a totally new direction for the show.

IT hasn't gone down well at all firstly because afew now think Capaldi was forced out and not left by his own choice (which i hope not as i've liked Capaldi) plus many find it shocking double standards after being told numerous times that (the part should be picked by who is best for role, not anything else) that suddenly they ditched any thought of who was best for role to find a specific typecast.

but i'll give it a shot, its a role you can easily write for female or male.

I gave up when Matt Smith took over, both he and Peter Capaldi were wrong in the role from what I saw. Combine Jodie Whittaker with Chris Chibnall (who worked together on Broadchurch) and I think it's a winning combination. I'll certainly give it a go, and I go back as far as Patrick Troughton.

My 18 year old son (who's watched Dr Who since it returned in 2005) is looking forward to it.

I would just like to make clear I will watch it.

I havent watched a single episode since Matt Smith left but like Jodie as an actress and liked Broadchurch so will give it a go but I still dont agree with the decison. Just feel it should be a masculine role.

I understand this (and why some don't like the show ). I loved it since it was first shown in Germany in the 80's was very disappointed when they canceled it at the end of the 80's and happy when Russell T. Davies made NewWho in 2005. I bought later most BBC DVD's from the early years (as far as they were available). Some ridiculous special effects but hey, the nostalgic effect made it for me (and Tom Baker the best Doctor). But I am not as "nostalgic" that I can't "develop" anymore. I am always for equal treatment of men and women (and equal pay for the same job) and tbh all my doctors are females, so it's only natural that "The Doctor" is now a female too ;)
