Remember some of the 86 world cup but was only 5 so couldn't pick a hero just remember despising Maradona so my first proper hero was David Hirst.

For the uneducated, local lad from Barnsley who we nicked for 200k as they were fucked a bit money wise, he was just 18 (bastards got us back though with Larry May). Raw but powerful striker, left footed but got goals with his right and head too, blossomed in his 3rd year at the club and became the talisman a year later. A truly natural striker but an absolute pillock to himself had he had the Shearer desire to play and not be jack the lad I honestly believe he'd have been as good as the Jawdee, him not getting the move to Man Yoo did him as Fergie wouldn't have stood for some of the antics.

In the playground at school I just wanted to score goals like him shame I was right footed and fat so in time I emulated Big Neville Southall.

Zbigniew Boniek, everyone was talking about Maradona, but remember this lad scoring two goals against mexico in 78.

John Byrom and Frankie Worthington were my two Bolton ones growing up

Shearer.

Cried when he retired after Euro 2000.

That header at the back stick against Germany is one that’ll stick with me forever. We were in the local miners welfare and the whole place erupted, I’d never seen anything like it at 10 years old.

My first Derby hero was probably Seth Johnson. Shame really considering the talent available to idolise in those early years but that’s who I liked the most.

From the days when Barrow used to turn over the likes of Fulham, Reading, Brentford and moneybags Luton at Holker Street

As a 9 year old who was used to watching shite every week, Terry Curran came along and became an instant hero of mine and the darling of Hillsborough.
Only player I ever had a poster of, he was much too good for the 3rd tier and his talent was obvious for all to see, add to this a charisma that these days is lost to the game and he just stood out immensely.
His celebration in front of the massed Unitedite's during the famous boxing day game and the fantastic goal in the return match at the Lane only added to the Hero Worship.

Sadly marred with his following move to the filthy side of the city, but over time I have forgiven him.
He remains one of my all time favourite players, along with the legends of the early 90s era.

Obviously got to be David Dunn for me, slightly tarred by the fact he sold out to the Venky's but he's still a Rovers hero.

100% Shearer. Just love the way he always preferred to smash the ball in. Shame his England career was over so quickly.

Dennis Bergkamp, no-one else close. His style on and off the pitch, the goals he scored, his assists, hero.

For City, probably Murray although deep down we all know he's a bit of a tit.

I can’t remember if my first Blues match was towards the end of Terry Cooper’s tenure or the beginning of Barry Fry’s. But I only started getting more into it after we got relegated to the third tier. Jose Dominguez & Steve Claridge were my favourite players of that 94/95 season.

Paul ‘Taity’ Tait, shite footballer really but a fucking headcase, whenever he was injured/suspended he’d be found on the terraces getting stuck in with the Zulus :box::lol: not forgetting him scoring the winner at Wembley and revealing a “Shit on the Villa” tshirt!!!

Not even a Millwall player (though I wish he was), but Michael Laudrup. My parents bought me that classic Danish hummel shirt with the halves, on a trip there back in 1986 :bravo:

Dwight Yorke for me. Genuine top class striker, with plenty of flair. I was gutted when he fucked off to united.

Andy Saville.
I remember Andy Saville when I first started going down. Played up top with Peschisolido.

Just read on his Wiki page he was top scorer for two clubs in the same season (Hartlepool & Birmingham).

Smashed 30 in for us when we won Division Three, my first proper season.

Remember him at the Dingles in the very early 90s with Andy Rammell?

Michael Gilkes or Phil Parkinson down at Elm Park.

Always had a soft spot for Gazza, what a player he was.

Stuart McCall, Mr Bradford City street fighter type of footballer how they all should be, a proper West Yorkshire lad even if he pretends to be Scottish. If our current wankers had a tenth of his fight, spirit and ability we'd be gracing this league next season, and he'd still be in a job.

But growing up I used to want to be Lee Mills, a real predator in the season we got promoted to the Premier League.

Tony Daley and David Platt were two of the first players I really became aware of. I was slightly too young though to take them into my arms as heroes, especially whilst they were in their pomp.
