So how exactly did such a big Championship club like Bolton end up in L2?

I never paid attention to the full story
It is well documented that we had a ambitious Manager, a chairman who was in it for himself and a Owner who listened to much to them both.
We stood 4th in the premier lge at Christmas and the manager give the chairman a list of 4 players who if we could get one would bring the club champions lge football.
The owner/chairman thought this would set the club back and denied him the money..........The manager walked
saying he needed a big rest from football.........Two weeks later he rocks up at Newcastle
No compensation for us.
We then install a yes man as manager whose aim is to cut costs
The owner had taken money out of the club he had given the club at 10% interest rates.
The club was over 100m in Debt to a man who never at any time had a 100m fortune.
Mismanagement carried on with 3/4 more managers until the owner says if he can get another buyer he will write most of the so called debt off.
We then had 6 months of every man and his dog wanting to buy us from Arabs to The richest company in China.........We settled For Dean Holdsworth who had no money to buy the club so he bought in a outside investor who had been chairman of Southampton but who had been barred from being a Director of any company for a lengh of time. Holdsworth was soon cast aside and we had 3 years of unpaid bills, wages etc
Administration and points deductions.....two relegations and we are wher ewe are now.

We have been bought out by some cracking owners who have paid said debts off, brought evatt in and have invested heavily in the club. They are business people so will want to see some improvement for there money

We were proper pressing teams and bullying them in our aggression and it was so good to watch, but now we're just like any other bang average awful team to watch in this league who aimlessly hoof it forward.
I work with alot of carlise fans who say the same, its down to consistency. We are consistently poor starters and in defence otherwise we,d be top of the league.
You have the makings of a decent team at this level, build on it

But it is never that simple. You of all people should know there will be many crazy results between now and May.
We are over 2/3rds of season's fixtures and the league table has started to settle down.
I'm almost sure Bradford will be in top 7 at season end, but I think they have left it a bit late for auto-promotion.
I am more optimistic for your club's promotion chances than Bet365

On paper it may look good to play the lower league teams but they are scrapping for their lives down there and they will have a say on the promotion race too.

I checked out game played and games to play for every team [and it hurts me to say this] but Cheltenham appear to have the best run-in to season end.
They play 4 of the 5 bottom teams at home.
Cambridge have a mixed bag but have played a couple more games than their closest rivals.
Should FGR win all games till end of season they would be become champions. But they are now in middle of an injury crisis after dropping 3 points against bottom team. [That match & result still hurts - well done Southend]
Tranmere have also got a mixed bag but with a strong possibility of auto-promotion.
Bolton's recent run of good form might be over. They've played all the lower teams and now play the top teams.

Sorry to reign on your chips........all that means nothing.......Some teams like Bolton, Bradford are 50%

That fact is taken.
But both teams have left it late in the day to start an auto-promotion push.
It could well be that Wembley hosts Bolton v Bradford play-off final.
Currently I have Cheltenham, FGR & Tranmere [alphabetical order] auto promoted.

I take it you do this in your spare time........its a given that you have no need to work as you have won millions on the fixed odds football coupons

Masi51,
Why are you always aggressive sarky towards others?
A lot of us, including me, don't want grief but get it when expressing honest opinions on your team.
Please back off.
Thank you

I'd sort of be surprised if Bolton and Bradford both make it. A lot of teams to overturn and both need to do it as we're effectively the bottom 2.

Bookies have Carlisle and Cambridge above Tranmere for top 3. Can't see Carlisle now, already struggling and no week off until the last week of the season.

A couple more models added

20 game form PPG
PPG/10 game form PPG/ 20 game form PPG mean total

looks like 73 points is the target for play offs.

so 12 wins from 16 games for the Stags will do.

still a possibility but other sides will say, yeah but we need only 9 wins from 16

We will likely draw 12, not win that many.

A couple of months ago, we were staring at relegation. We went into the window with 2 aims; to avoid relegation and start rebuilding with next season in mind. Had we started the season with this squad, we would have made the top 7 but most of us think that task is a little too far for us now. I can certainly see us losing home games to Bolton, Oldham, Tranmere and FGR. But obviously, we all have our fingers crossed.

With such a congested fixture list going into the final third of the season.I still think as little as 75 points could be enough to claim automatic promotion.

The problem with the playoffs is that it eats into the close season. Look how poorly Northampton are doing this season compared to the others.
It is slightly tongue in cheek but we wont get excited about getting into the playoffs.

I think 80 points will do it. We need 7 wins and a couple of draws from our last 15 games to be sure.

Stop making out you don't want to get into the play offs. Bet Son of Cod would love his team to be there. Most of us would certainly like our teams to make it.

Some of those odds are absurd. In what universe are we the same odds as Cambridge and shorter odds than Tranmere and Bolton?

Yes I would be signing the petition too. And I would be signing every single season as well because I much rather see my team finish just outside the play offs than actually in them.

This argument is sillier than the one that some fans come up with sometimes, the one about not wanting their sides to go up because they reckon there's a big chance they would be getting smashed game in game out were it to happen :ffs: Or the one about not wanting to come up from the connie because the L2 forum is not as good as the NL one

Anyway, here's my revised top 3 prediction -

1. Cheltenham
2. Tranmere
3. FGR (who will only get to fill in one of those grey boxes on the back of their shirt on the final day of the season)

Because bookmakers never compose a book based on emotions. If you think a book is out of line then open your wallet.
