Bolton's recent results have been astounding.

First 24 games 28 points
Last 12 games 32 points.

Momentum is a massive factor and could take Bolton up but away games at FGR, Salford, Morecambe and Newport could change it all,
Sarcevic being injured will also be a big factor, Quietly confident.

Massive game for us on Tuesday at Mansfield. If we don’t win that Bolton and Tranmere will probably go above us in the next week or so, and looking at our run in I don’t see us getting back above them If it happens

If we're going to get promoted, we're going to have to remember how to score goals.

I fucking hate football. 2 soft as shite penalties in a game where that was the only possible way Tranmere were going to be able to score. Fuck this league.

It is interesting that our defence has improved massively since Vaughan's injury, largely due to Clarke and Ray forming a partnership. We have only conceded three in six league games, which makes scruffy victories by one goal margins possible.

We have played five matches without Vaughan and are still averaging two points per game (three wins, one draw, one defeat).

It'll be interesting to see how Cambridge go from here - we've been without three (Digby, Boateng, O'Neil) of our five first choice midfield for most of the last three months, with Hoolihan only playing three games in five also, and we've played a more congested set of fixtures than any other team near the top. Given that, I think staying in the leading group has been a real achievement.

Now we have all our first choice midfield back and benefit from a less congested fixture list (including Wes available for at least seven out of nine assuming he stays uninjured) so we need to kick on and deliver over the next seven weeks, or we don't deserve to go up.

It will be somewhere between 78 and 82 points that are needed for an automatic spot IMHO - I'd put our chances at 50/50, same as Tranmere and Bolton, with Cheltenham favourites and FGR slightly less likely as they are facing the toughest run (Bolton, Salford, Exeter and Tranmere at home, plus Crawley and Bradford away) when they have some important players out injured.

Teams from Morecambe down seem unlikely to make top three in my opinion, but if anyone sneaks in I reckon it will be Morecambe - once they've played Cheltenham and us in the next fortnight they only have Bolton of the contenders left to play.

Bolton are on a great run, but seven of their remaining ten games are against teams also contending for promotion which is a pretty tough set of fixture; alternatively, if they keep their form going then they may put a bit of a dent into FGR and Tranmere's hopes - two six pointers there and FGR play Tranmere too in the penultimate game.

A massively exciting end to the season in store here...

Games left to play for top 8 clubs. Common consent is that the four promoted teams will be from this group.

our next four games are all against the teams listed in the above graphic.

FGR (h)
Tranmere (a)
Newport (h)
Exeter (a)

lose all four and we might be dragged into the dog fight.

Conversely Mansfield could be this season's 'King Maker'

Interesting graphic we only have 4 of the final 10 at home, So do we think home advantage is crucial under the present circumstances ?

Fair enough, we have been quiet, particularly after all the kids with their HMS Piss the League nonsense. I started posting pre-season but then gave up when the village idiot took the microphone. Been lurking since, and thought I’d chime in with what I felt was a balanced view.
Excellent post, and nice to have a Bolton fans who is literate and doesn’t spout non stop shite.

Shut THE door on your way out. Get one thing right. You have had 2 weeks back in school now. Surely some lessons were English Literature based.

Do some research on Steve Whiston. I will always hold him high in regard but he is an ambitious man with an agent that chases the money - even though you think you are one of the biggest clubs in the land he will fuck you off for what he thinks is the most direct route to achieve his ambitions, and a decent wedge in his agents pocket.

There's a good chance he will be in the Championship before Bolton are.
Some on our forum saying that he may go to Preston 16/1 at the bookies
Not a chance in hell will there fans want Evatt with his Blackpool connections

Think its any 7 from 8 for the playoffs and any 3 from 6 for the Automatics
Saturday may well sort this league out once and for all.

1 Cheltenham
2Bolton
3 Cambridge
..............................................................
4 Tranmere
5Morecambe
6 Fgr
7 Newport/Exeter

The rest can plan for next season

If we lose on Saturday you can add Salford to the list.

I don't know what it is, but I've never been fully convinced by Matt Taylor. I'm not sure whether he's getting 'par' out of Exeter or not.

Never seem consistent enough.

Stats updated after last nights games based on short (10 games), Medium (20 games) and long (PPG) form. Predicted points in brackets

1 Cheltenham (83.5)
2 Bolton (81.2)
2 Tranmere (80.1)

4 FGR (78.9)
5 Cambridge (78.4)
6 Morecambe (76)
7 Newport (71)

8 Crawley (68.6)
9 Exeter (68.5)
11 Salford (65.3)

I think it's a fair shout now that Carlisle and Bradford can now be consigned to the non-runners.

Tranmere in my opinion were pretty bad last night against a completely hopeless Colchester team who could have had 4 if their lads could head the ball. We stay in the top 3 picture and still have a shot at the title but we are struggling massively in front of goal.

If Bolton maintain their form they should be a shoe in for the top 3.

FGR stumbled once again and now Cambridges points on the board are looking good as both Tranmere and FGR haven't taken advantage of the games in hand.

Exeters 3rd defeat on the bounce now leaves them in a scrap with Crawley, Newport and salford for what looks to be the last realistic spot in the playoffs as Morecambe keep grinding out results that look like keeping them in there.

Big weekend of games coming up and things can and will change massively.

From a Tranmere perspective Mansfield is a must win as our next two are Cheltenham and Cambridge

Why do you care?
Have to say the Exeter fans on here seem alright but DevonLad has ruined it for the rest so I also take some pleasure in seeing Exeter failing to make auto and struggling for play offs although I’m sure the profitable academy is still doing well which I’m a sure as we all know is how success is really judged in football now.
