Right, so here's the situation.

I moved not long a go, and as some know, I was also made redundant back in May. I have since got a new job, and when I started, obviously I went to give forms of ID as per. I then realised that I'd lost my passport in the house move, so god only knows where it is. It's definitely not in my new place. Anyway, I cancelled that, but didn't reapply as, well, I haven't been out of the country since 2009. So I thought there's no point spending money on one (especially as it was tight at the time) when it isn't exactly needed.

Fast forward to Monday. I celebrated my 24th birthday, and my partner, who knows nothing about my passport situation, bought us a weekend away, to France... We leave Friday. Uh-oh! Now I know you're all thinking, what's the issue? Get a one day one. Well, I'm going to try. Trouble is, they don't do one day ones for lost passports, or so it says.

Lucky for me, there's a passport office here in Peterborough. So I've rang them and I do have an appointment tomorrow morning for a one day one (in the hope I can talk them in to doing it). Please tell me someone has managed this?

She's spent a lot on this and I don't wanna turn around and go 'Oh by the way, I don't have a passport'

I think you'll probably be OK but it will cost you a fair bit.

I take it you'vge read this? https://www.gov.uk/get-a-passport-urgently

Edit - I see the issue you have with having lost it... you'll just have to explain the situation and fall on their mercy!

Yeah, that's what concerns me, as it says it's not available for a one day replacement for a lost one. The money isn't an issue for getting it.

I've got all the forms, all filled out, and countersigned etc, so hopefully it'll be okay. I'm just hoping someone else has had a similar situation and had success with it to ease my mind!

You'd like to think they'd sort you out, right? it would take a callous person to just say 'sorry, you're fucked'

Opposing the pedestrianisation of Norwich city centre!!!!
I've got it Dom. Here's what you do. Get some scruffy clothes on, roll around in a bit of mud so you look more disheveled, then start walking through the channel tunnel to France. If you're accosted just say 'I changed my mind' in a Syrian accent.

We don't do passports in mainland europe. We do ID cards. Course you wouldn't have that problem if you were part of Europe (or something).

May that be a lesson to all of you. Feed the euro cow, care not for keeping your country safe, we're all in this together! Coz Europe is gonna challenge the US for trade and economic power innit.

Well I'm off to bed.

I had to deal with the passport office once, although in Victoria. Didn't realise my passport expired one day before I was returning from the Caribbean. I had a complete jobsworth who was pretty much like 'I can't tell if this is you in your photo, I can't do this for you'. Also said that my passport was broken as the bottom 5mm had started to come away from the book so she was pretty much saying that she couldn't do it as a one day thing anyway. I was pretty much 'are you actually kidding me?!', she asked someone for a second opinion and they were pretty much like, yeah it's technically damaged, but who really cares? It's him in the picture, clearly, just put it through for him.

You should be okay especially since you've already had a Passport recently.

If you've done the fast track for it you will get it the same day.

You did well to hide the crushing disappointment in your reaction to her telling you she'd booked a holiday
