Weird place to advertise it, though?

https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/conference-club-sale-spencer-cohen

The owner of a football club in the Conference is looking to sell the club. It is a good club in a decent catchment area, and a chance of getting promoted to the football league. He is happy to pass on the club for nothing to get the club off of his hands asap, as he has other business interests that he wants to pursue. The details are…

-He would give the club away for nothing if someone was interested asap -Their annual turnover is £1million -They currently have a playing budget of around 750k per season (as he was really gunning for promotion) but if this was reduced to 500k per season, then there would be a profit. So with the budget as it is at the moment (750k), he is currently having to put in approx. 40k of his own money in each month. -bar takings on match day are 10k each match

If you know of anyone who may be interested, please give me a shout.

£750K budget means the possibilities are severely limited. Turnover £1M, somewhere in the Grimsby/Wrexham/Tranmere bracket surely.

(Obviously not Wrexham before anyone says anything.)

Grimsby are £1m+ budget this season, so it's not them.

Cheltenham may not be a bad shout actually.

Thing is, iirc,Cheltenham don't have a single owner but several shareholders, but I don't know how these things work exactly.

Also, not sure about the '10k bar takings each match' claim.

I think it's 'bar' as in excluding/apart from, rather than alcohol!

EDIT - Or maybe not. Not written particularly well, that bit.

Could be but I think he's actually referring to bar as in alcohol.

Can't be. All those mentioned would have significantly higher turnovers. We had a higher turnover than that last year in the Ryman Prem.

I'd go with Gateshead actually. Other options include Eastleigh (don't think so) and Bromley as a bit more of an outside bet.

Highly unlikely. We changed owner at the beginning of the season and all matchday takings whether its alchohol, tea, coffee, food etc are taken by the council

Our turnover is allegedly £1m, but our player budget is only £300K.

If anyone knows different I'd be glad to be put right.

Saw this on our forum yesterday. Is this really how this type of business is done? It almost reads like a spoof advert.

Can't see it being us, Mark Palios only only took about a year ago. An advert on Linkedin would be preferable to Peter Johnson's attempt at flogging us on Ebay though.

This just screams something that Fenty would do. Doubt he'd sell for nothing though. I wouldn't have thought he'd have any other business ventures either unless he's got even more mental.

It is probably easier to start ruling clubs out and see what is left. I wouldn't think it is either ourselves or Eastleigh as both Chairmen seem to have a long term plan and I can't see either of them quitting this early. The bar takings is bit of an odd one, ten grand a game, that would surely rule out many of the smaller teams, at least attendance wise unless their fans are really heavy drinkers. I don't know the answer to this, but how many clubs have a single owner, that would surely rule some others out.

It won't be us. Our turnover is well over £1m. It's probably closer to £3-3.5m.

With a playing budget of 750k coming out of a turnover of just £1m, it can only be a small but bankrolled team. If it's true, and I am skeptical, it must be a team like Gateshead or Eastleigh.

Our turnover is at least £4m so not us. Sounds more like FGR/Eastleigh/Gateshead to me.

Grimsby and Wrexham will be turning over more than that but less than us.

maybe the VISION has been completely crushed.

I particularly like the last part: If you know of anyone who may be interested, please give me a shout.
Sounds as though they are flogging a £500 Vauxhall Corsa on gumtree - i'll just text around and see if I know anyone willing to chuck £40k a month at a non-league football club, should be plenty of takers in my contacts!

You say that, but our previous owner put us on ebay knowing it'd get endless coverage from the likes of Sky Sports.. free PR.

Turnover sounds about right for us, but the £750K budget is probably too low. Can't see Vince losing interest or selling at the moment anyway, unless he gets a definite no to the new stadium planning permission application, which hasn't been lodged yet. That could frustrate him as his ambitions wont be met at the current ground/location.

My guess would be Gateshead.

To be fair to PJ, he didn't. The cowboys he trusted to sell us for him did that. Still no less embarrassing.

It's not us. I don't know our turnover, but Paul Baker is merely the largest shareholder. There are then a couple of others, including the Trust not far behind. There's no way this wouldn't have got out and I've neither seen nor heard anything before this thread.
