I'll do what I usually do and make sure I catch the events I enjoy (athletics, swimming and diving, football, weightlifting, martial arts/wrestling and maybe tennis) as well as the odd one I don't if we have a chance of getting a medal.

I watch as much as I can. Preference towards track and field, swimming and hockey. I also watch rowing and cycling, but really only coz GB are good at them.

EDIT: and the iron man thingy with the Yorkshire lads in it.

Mostly looking forward to the opening ceremony, in which Lord Seb of Coe will deliver a speech about transparency, purity and the inspirational qualities of the Corinthian spirit, before being set on fire and launched from a giant golden trebuchet to light the Olympic flame.

I'm interested in some modalities (mountain bike, diving, etc.) I would like to give a watch but all will depends if I'll have time. But almost sure about the football.

The short track events, boxing, taekwondo & football. The rest of the events are bollox really. Posh elitist sports like rowing & sailing and then the mind numbingly dull events like cycling & the walk like you've shat yourself race. No thank you.

Don't usually bother about getting excited by it, but once its up and running I always end up watching it. Love the weightlifting especially even if it is doped.

I can't believe it's been 4 years since London, feels no more than a couple.

I normally watch some of it, but won't go out my way. I've always found the Winter Olympics more interesting.

I'll watch the archery at least, speaking of which GB claimed a mens spot for the olympics today at the european championships.

Is it on the BBC as normal? If so I'll probably watch as much as I can.

Yes, but last time out for the wall to wall coverage we've been used to. From 2018 they are sub licensing from Discovery (Eurosport), so looks like the terrestrial stuff will be hacked back to a couple of streams of the really big stuff.

The advertising/ratings driven coverage provided by NBC in the states is absolutely SPIFFY and not remotely a farce though, so I see no reason to worry. The market will provide! Faster! Higher! Stronger!

Yup, will watch the vast majority. The beauty of working from home means I can procrastinate with this whenever I feel I need a little time off.

Yes - bit of a sporting nut.

Bit of a shame in the athletics for example that whoever wins an expected medal will probably have those suspicious pointed towards them though such has been the crisis in that sport.

And of course we will have the "look at how wonderful our OIympians are compared to those awful footballers"

Abso-fucking-utley, will be attempting to catch every minute I can, more looking forward to the Paralympics but love it all. After basically bankrupting myself applying for dozens of tickets for London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics and getting them all the games were quite easily the best thing I have ever attended. Sadly life and children has got in the way of making it to Rio but I've already started saving towards Tokyo in 2020.

Will probably watch a few of the bigger races but not much else in all honesty.

True - still be some decent players there of course.

Just a shame for golf generally as its trying to prove the sport ought to be in the Olympics.

None of the other sports seem to have people pulling out and I include events like tennis/football where again winning gold isn't the pinnacle of a career.

Golf shouldn't be an olympic sport, as others have said its not the pinnacle of the sport. Understand why golfers don't want to enter as well though (aside from Zika) the olympics has no barring on other events for them, for the guys doing the majors it interrupts preparation/competing in other competitions to earn money which they make their living from. If golf were to be in the olympics maybe it should be only open to golfers of amateur status?

Probably wont go out of my way to watch it but if i have free time i'll watch pretty much any Olympic event.

Just saw on ssn that GB's targets have been raised - they're expected to bring more medals home this time round.

Surely Russia will be banned after the powerful report accusing then of state sponsored drug taking?
