Good read, cheers.

I've recently been sampling the delights of step 4 which, granted, is probably still a few steps better than Sussex County League Div 2 but is also a few steps below my usual stomping ground.

Whilst the main thing I have noticed is the "honest endeavour" of the players (and yes, that is an intentional metaphor for a distinct lack of quality on show), the other thing which I couldn't help but notice is indeed the enormous amount of time and effort put in by club volunteers. Who are these people and where do they find the time to do this? However they manage it, they certainly aren't getting the recognition their efforts deserve.

Football tends to become all encompassing. Finding the time? You just do it, and it takes over your life. But you're absolutely right about recognition. We'd have no Non league football without volunteers; and that's not an outrageous statement, it's just a fact.

Thanks! Will be covering Hastings Utd v Merthyr Town in the FA Trophy this weekend for the Non League paper, so will probably write something longer afterwards.

Indeed it was abandoned at half time, but I still had to write 450 words for the Non League Paper and still have more notes that I didn't use, so I might well write something anyway- particularly as the sub ed at the NLP made alterations to my report which I was rather annoyed about!
