Time for a HBK thread!

After signing Joe Mason for a rumoured sum of 3m, raising to a possible 3.5m, what are your clubs worst business deals in the transfer market, reflecting value for money? From a Wolves perspective we have signed some garbage over the years, but I think 3m for Mason is up there for possibly one of the worst deals we have ever done. Watch this thread come back and bite me on the arse now...

Over to you.

We've made loads of very poor signings over years, from Gills De Bilde at start of season we came down from Premier league to more recently Stevie May.

Andrea Silenzi. Forest rumoured to be signing an Italian forward and the Evening Post ran a huge article headlined "It's Baggio!". Silenzi never stood a chance.

Who was the defender under Johnson we signed thinking he was a striker because he happened to play there in an emergency in the one game we were scouting? Him.

3.5 million for Ellington.

Hardly fit or in form.

Styvar? Didn't he score against villa in the Europa league or something?

Hard to say for us really as we somehow manage to shift them on. Like when we paid £2.5 MILLION for Greg Halford, but then sold him on for a £1m profit 6 months later.

Tommy Burns' (not so) magnificent seven could be up there..

How about a midfield trio of Kevin Nicholls, Veliche Shumilikoski and a past it Ian Ashbee?

I'd include Darren Carter as a over-priced piece of shit but we've had worse.

Yeah I think that's it.

No wait, he was the one that got cropped straight away and never played again wasn't he? Or maybe it's the same guy and I'm getting mixed up

I know its not alot of money to other clubs but we paid around 300k for Jordan Bowery and in the end we probably paid Oxford that much to take him away.

Quite a lot from our wonderful club this season. All free but seems to have been quite expensive.

Sergio Aguza - Free (mutually terminated)
Cristian Benavente - Free (mutually terminated)
Dale Jennings - Free (fucking fat mess)
Simon Church - Free (southern premier league player)
Matt Upson - Free (sick note)

Anyone we seem to sign for 3.5 million normally turns out horrendous.

Lee Morris - Absolute crock.
Rob Earnshaw - Played about 3 minutes in the one season for us.
Claude Davis - See points tally 07/08.

You could throw any player from that season in this category. From Andy Griffin and Eddie Lewis to Laurent Robert and Robbie Savage. Too many to name.

A lot of Derby fans have wrote Nick Blackman off already but we'll wait out on that one.

I don't get that, he's played what three games? Give him time to settle in ffs.

If that shot had gone in instead of just over the bar v Birmingham, they'd all be loving him.

Oh and you forgot the man who never played, Luke.

Liam Dickinson 750k from Stockport. So bad in training, we sent him straight out on loan.

Going back a few years, Mikkel Beck was by far the worst pre-2007. Had to be for us to send him out on loan to Forest

I'm not sure, but whoever it is was almost certainly signed by Paul Jewell. Probably Paul Taylor.

Who originally signed Luke Varney? Because it's him, surely?

Although I did forget to include him in my post.

We've had far worse players than Varney. For the record, McCarthy signed him.

Emerse Fae. We paid 2.5 million for him in 2007 and he made 8 appearances.
Marcus Williams, Keith Scott, Ray Houghton, Mass Sarr, Paul Brayson, Michael Meaker, Paul Bodin, Bobby Mikhailov.

Anthony Elding on loan from non-league Grimsby? Lee Trundle when he was about 58?

We have lots.

Those two cost pretty much fuck all though to be fair, which is why I avoided some of Westley's abominations like Aaron Brown.

Nicholls and Shumi cost about £750k each and were probably earning nearly £10k a week.

Fair point. Surprised you didn't go for Chaplow, seem to remember you hating him

I have a massive dislike for him as he's an odious, Dingle c*** but for a spell, he was a good player for us before he decided he couldn't be bothered any more. We've had far worse.

I quite liked Chaplow, always thought he got a lot of unwarranted stick.

Veliche Shumilikoski. Whoooo? Exactly!

Paid about a million quid for him (The Macedonian Gerrard....they said) Hmmm.

Not only was he fucking dog runs, but Alan Irvine chose him over Charlie Adam, who we turned down and could have signed for £500k. That seals the deal for me.
