I just thought to let you know that we have started to demolish our North terrace which is normally allocated to away fans. The club, for some stupid reason, are still allowing tickets to be sold in the terrace through our website, even though the stand is partly gone. Do not pay the £17 ticket for the terrace as you will have a problem on Saturday when you will need a £23 ticket for the seats. You will be allocated around 600 seats.

This is what it looked like last Tuesday so more will be gone by Saturday:

We are actually building a 1900 seater away end that will be the same height as our West stand and it will have a bar underneath.

I thought you were buying our Underhill South Stand, not our North Stand from the Hive!

Just looked at the Exeter planning application and it definitely looks like our old terrace at the Hive.

Actually the two new stands look suspiciously like the South stand at underhill and the terrace from the Hive. Although I'm not convinced the big stand looks enough like the underhill stand for it to be the same one

I don't think anyone really knows what is going on. Originally, it was definitely quoted that if funds permit, we would build an away terrace 'similar to the one Barnet have/had at The Hive'. The latest rumour is now the terrace idea has been replaced and instead we will have the South Stand from Underhill in it's place.

How much is that stand costing to erect, including the demolition of the old one?

We don't have a price.
The sale of Underhill for £14.25m is being used to develop the Hive in addition to the profits the Hive makes.

Just asking because it might be a similar operation to increasing the capacity of our ends...especially the away...

The chairman confirmed the whole Hive development is costing £30m.
The medical centre is £4m, £5m had been spent before the club took the site over and a further £6mil was spent before the training centre opened. So all I can say for certain is once all the stands are complete they will have cost around £15 mil

Seems ridiculous the amount of money a basic stadium/ground costs these days. Would be interesting to see a broken down invoice showing what cost what exactly.

A hell of a lot of work has gone into the site with some of it not being obvious. A new water main was installed to equalise pressure for neighbouring houses. The new stand is being built over cellular water storage tanks ( 57m long, 8m wide and 1.6m deep) which link to the drainage to prevent the pitch from flooding and provide recycled water for the 10 full sized football pitches on the site. There is nearly £500k of solar panels on the roof of the east stand. The medical centre is almost unique as a specialist sports head injury research unit run by a Harley street doctor and a training centre for medical staff on the latest CT, MRI, X-ray and Ultrasound scanners.
If it was just a basic stadium I'm sure the price would be much lower but based on what the chairman has said the intention is to replace the temporary south terrace, fill in the corners and re-work the East stand and build an indoor arena over the next few years so the Hive is very much a work in progress..

All sounds good. My comment was just in general some of them it's like they've just pulled a random figure out of nowhere. Wonder how much gets "spent" on planning and legal cost rather tha materials and labour

Is your stadium better than Allianz Park is there a reason you and Saracens don't share?

IF we have bought a terrace ticket surely Barnet will be forced to give a seat to us if they have demolished the away section

The answers are yes, yes and yes.
Copthall has one decent stand, two temporary and an old stand that's seen better days, it is restricted in how often it can be used and has to be regularly converted back to an athletics track so it can be used for that purpose. It is also an artificial pitch.
We cannot share because it would not make enough revenue for us to compete at this level. The Hive already had the permission and basic work done for a small stadium when it was taken over as our training centre, so it would make no sense to incur costs at another ground and lose some of the revenue generated on match days. The Hive makes a lot of money and that money subsidises the football team, t is much more than just a small stadium, it is the money spinner that allows the club to compete with crowds of 2000.
If you have a terrace ticket you will definitely be given a seat.

The Hive is also a lot easier to go to by public transport too!

I think you're losing a lot of money if the away end of any ground doesn't hold at least 1500. So much money to be made from away fans

The new away end holds 2000,
Mixed feelings about it tbh, once complete away fans will be paying £23, last year it was £17. There will also be a large bar underneath so it's all about raking in as much as possible from away fans. I'm very disappointed that the club haven't gone with the TwentysPlenty campaign

Was a shambles when I came this season. Bad enough paying 17. Went in 2 hours before kick off having been told I could use the away bar once through Turned out I had the wrong ticket and the steward hadn't realised but wasn't allowed back out. 2 hours in the cold with nothing but flat bottled beer from a burger bar Wasn't too impressive.

Not sure how you achieve flat bottled beer.
I'll be glad to see the Pompey fans put well away from the home support. Worst behaved away supporter to visit this season.

Why is drinking alcohol at football grounds such a major issue for some fans? You'd think they were talking about the oxygen supply the way some carry on.

Issue was being told you could outside and going in early to do so rather than going to the pub.

We get it. You had a ticket for a part of the ground that didn't have a bar, was misinformed that you would get access to a bar and are now hacked off that you didn't get access to a bar. You were still able to buy alcohol but it wasn't good enough and then you lost to tinpot Barnet.
I'm usually sympathetic to these kind of stories but I find it much harder when the away fans idea of fun is seeing if you can gob on the home fans and when several Pompey went in the home end so they could start fights, resulting in convictions and injuries. I think you can see why I think it was right that you weren't allowed anywhere near our 'empty' clubhouse.

Looks like not every pompey fan had a bad experience last time.
