Given the promotion thread is now up and running I thought it was time to also start the relegation thread... And yippee, for the first time since I joined the old forum, we're not in it!

Currently the relegation battle is threatening to turn into a three horse race, with any two out of Daggers, York and Yeovil looking like heading to the glue factory. None of them are giving me a reason at the moment to say they're less likely than the other two to go down, they're all equally bad. All three have already played their new-manager card though D&R's pending appointment could make a difference. The new Daggers boss, McNamara and whoever's managing Yeovil at the moment have the opportunity in January to create a squad to their own liking, something McNamara seems desperate to do, while Yeovil may not be able to afford to do, and D&R may give thier new manager some of the Everton money.

The only other two teams who look worthy of inclusion in this thread are Hartlepool and Newport, though Hartlepool have games in hand and as they enter scrap mode, King Ronnie may come into his own, pick up a point or three from the games in hand (one of which is against us). Newport are still close to the drop-zone but have been pulling away gradually, mainly through drawing games, so the question will be, how much longer can this go on before it really does become two from three, or will January see someone pull clear and/or someone else join the party.

EDIT: Just caught up on the shock news that D&R have appointed Still as their new manager.

Think Newport will be 1 of the 2 to go down. They seem to have had a good run and yet still aren't anywhere near far enough away from danger.

Really think it depends on what/who the new managers sign in Jan. Don't think the appointment of Darren Way will help Yeovil though.

What's going to happen this year without the Carlisle and Mansfield fans arguing over who's shitter?

Looking out for the team to drop like a stone, wonder who it'll be this year.

Have to be a major slump to join in with this year's relegation. Half way through and only winning around 2 games is unbelievable shitness

I can't see Dagenham escaping the drop, even with the appointment of Still. Just 4 points out of 36 at home is nowhere near good enough.

It'll probably be York or Yeovil to join them, but I fancy Yeovil to pull away following some encouraging results recently (and the signing of Zoko seems to have given them a boost).

I still don't think Hartlepool are out of trouble, and wouldn't be surprised to see them stay here for the majority.

I'm a lot more confident of staying up now. Looking at our team (on paper), it's not too bad. Not that I've seen us much but a kick up the arse and a few tactics should hopefully sure us up a bit. Still's territory based game will make us tougher to beat I'd have thought.

Still, we're definitely in the shit and we need a massive second half to get us out of it. Newport and York are my two bets with an outside chance of Stevenage.

What makes you think Yeovil will get out of it after appointing an uninspiring manager?

**Signing in**

Still not got the confidence in our dopey owner and setup to avoid another relegation, if we sell Simpson in this transfer window we will be sucked closer in.

With Still going back to Dagenham, I can see that ebing enough to get them over the line.

The bottom three sides all looked very limited when we played them all this season, although Yeovil at the time were giving their all for Darren Way.

York have the better players, but need to keep them fit.

Behave, there is no way orient are in this thread. Maybe a contender for midtable champs.

I think we will escape, sorely missed Penn and Summerfield in the horrendous run and we have vastly improved since they came back. Good signings from Jackie Mac and we will be fine I think. Yeovil and Newport for me.

I'm just peeking in the door to see whos here.

Signings are going to be the key to Wimbledon, Ardley has already said he going to sign someone. Maybe this will be the end of Bayo.

Seem a lot of moaning from Barnet fans - what do you expect? You're not going to get promoted and you were only ever a Conference/League 2 yo-yo club anyway.

A lot of fans will have different opinions to me, but I wasn't expecting us to push up any sticks this year. I think we have the potential now more than ever to do something like an Accrington or a Burton, but that wasn't an expectation.

A lot of the moaning revolves around the style of play and recruitment really. We have seen some really, really dire performances, too many of them, and it does grate. I wouldve liked us to have a season firmly in midtable but our performances don't really fill me with confidence that we'll retain the distance that we have over relegation. It could all come crashing down around us very soon.

Accrington haven't done anything yet.

Looking at how far off the pace the bottom three are, and how decent Barnet were when you came to our place, I just don't think either Barnet have it in them to get that bad, or the bottom teams have it in them to get good enough to overhaul you. Enjoy your anticlimax.

I seem to remember last time Barnet were promoted as champions, the team who were promoted alongside you finished as champions of this division. Hope that doesn't happen this time.

Think it's pretty much a 5-way battle, can't realistically see anyone above dropping in (they'd need a horror run) and even then Hartlepool could be in a bit of a false position due to games in hand.

A few big games at the bottom today:

Newport (20th) vs Hartlepool (21st)
Exeter vs Dagenham & Redbridge (23rd)
Yeovil (24th) vs York (22nd)

Don't think we can afford to lose our game vs York, and with at least one of Newport and Hartlepool dropping points they will be certain to be dragged in to the battle if either Yeovil or York can pick up all 3 points - albeit Hartlepool have games in hand.

Good chance for D&R to pick up points at an out of sorts Exeter side, the return of Still is sure to have a impact.

This is how is looks at the moment:

28 Morecambe (22), Barnet (24)
27
26 Stevenage (24)
25
24
23
22
21
20 Hartlepool (21), Newport (24)
19
18
17
16 York (23), Dagenham & Redbridge (24)
15
14 Yeovil (24)

Ps Yeovil had the worst form in the Football League last year, winning 7 league games in the whole of 2015 an picking up 0.72 points per game...

Got to like Yeovil. Woke up one day in the Championship, thought 'What the fuck are we doing here?!' and have been proceeding back to the safe confines of their natural non-league environment ever since. Just need Fleetwood, Burton and Frankenstein & Redbridge to do the same and everything will be gravy. Lincoln need to sort their lives out in the meantime.

Yes we have been a yo-yo club. Does that mean we should continue to be?

Financially the club has never been wealthier, the playing budget has never been higher. I haven't seen a Barnet fan who expects promotion and points wise I don't think we are far off expectation either ( 9 from playoff, 12 from relegation), but it could and should have been better.

What we expect is the team to play their best and a manager to not balls things up. November was the month of bizarre team selections and December was the month of shooting ourselves in the foot having outplayed Yeovil and Cambridge to only lose/ draw.
January is a killer month for us, playing 4 of the top 6 form sides. After than we need to get the results to stay away from the drop.

I'm still sticking with Dagenham and Yeovil for the drop,i picked those 2 a couple of months ago and i've seen nothing to change my mind even with them both having new managers. Sorry guys nothing personal.

Always one who drops in in the last week. I think the Everton money will save daggers, I'm going Stevenage, Yeovil

My bottom 5 prediction was:

20. Dagenham & Redbridge
21. York City
22. Accrington Stanley
______________
23. Newport County
24. Crawley

Crawley was as much from wish as expectation, so Accrington have been the surprise team (again) from the start of the season.

If loan recalls mess up Crawley's squad, I think they could be drawn into the mix. I can see York and, with a few shrewd signings, Daggers having enough nous to escape. If Sheridan is tempted away, it could be between Crawley and Newport as to who drops with clueless Yeovil - as always in these situations, look who's making the big decisions in the club at chair/board level.

If- IF- we win today, that really would draw Newport especially back into it regardless of their game being postponed- I would say Hartlepool as well, but they will have three games in hand on us after today. A City win for both us and Exeter would be f*****g marvellous today, throw in a Northampton and Orient win to avoid other teams pulling away as well please.

Massive week for us with 6 points on the road. Let's enjoy the Everton game and then hope we can break our home duck.
