I play classic Doom online sometimes, most people wont play it because it has graphics from the 90's. Still I'd rather play that than Call of Duty vs zombies or some shit.

Yeah I remember having lan deathmatch with a mate on Doom and just owning him at it. Loved that game, I got so good at it I'd put it on the toughest settings and start each level with just the pistol even going one-on-one with the Cyberdemon! :D

Still in my top five games of all time is Doom.

Tapes and one button joysticks haha ahh memories. We also dealt with games on floppy disks too oh and the beloved cartridges before all this CD stuff came into play.

I remember getting Monkey Island 2 on the Amiga. It had 11 bloody floppies! And no you didnt change them in a logical order like you think, oh no! It was 'Pick up spade.' Insert disk 2. 'Use spade.' Insert disk 6. 'Pick up bone.' Insert disk 3. *screams* Good thing all of my Amiga games were dodgy copies, it would have annoyed me if Id paid actual money for them!

And the Speccy loading screen! Where you sit through the entire thing just to see if there was a 'picture!'

I played Alisia Dragoon on an emulator the other day...one life! ONE life! Makes Sonic and Mario look like a piece of cake!

Yet here I am playing Uncharted on the PS3 and losing my shit because the camera angles keep making me get my jumps wrong!

They also didn't have the problem with the cassette player eating the cassette :bl: or having to look through 100 pages on a booklet to find the code to let you play the game haha.

 At least it was easy to get games for free then! Bit of tape over the copy protected bit and you could make a copy!

Anyone else old enough to remember playing games on DOS? Having to type all kinds into the commands, only to find you missed a letter out and had to type it all again!

Yes I remember DOS games very well haha. Can remember installing Windows 3.1 too all 8 floppy disks of it haha. However yes DOS prompts, forgetting the /p or whatever it was to stop the list going so fast :D oh and when people didn't have their disk drive as D:/ haha.

And because everyone in the 80s was clearly high, like all the time, we were treated to gems like this...

God I love this game...

On Elvira II if it said "Insert Disk 4" you knew you had died, as that was the disk the "DEAD PERSON" image was held on.

Great game though.

I can't relate as far back as some of you lot due to having a Megadrive as my first console (being born in 1992 would be part of it too...), but I fucking loved my Megadrive, still fire up the emulator every now and again to give the games a go. I can't find a ROM of the original Streets of Rage though which is bugging me, as that was my favourite one!

This is some of the stuff we old c*** had to put up with in games back in the day! :D

Hahah, brings back memories. The bit about the games crashing was funny. I remember a game called Daley Thompson's Decathlon that was around in about 85 for the Speccy. I wanted ito so much because I loved the arcade game Track and Field. It was an absolute bastard to load it. Literally 9/10 it would fail to load.

The bit about typing the data in for games reminded me of when I used to buy the magazine Crash. They had games you could type in yourself, they took hours to enter the code and were fuckin rammel once you played them..

I used to have a dodgy power lead on my speccy and got nearly to the end of entering the code for a game once when my mum came in to my bedroom to put some washing on the rad. I warned her to try and not to knock my power lead, but too late, she did and I lost the lot

Some of my fave games - 3D Deathchase, Match day,

Load " " > Enter > Play (On the cassette recorder) > Blue and Yellow Lines (Sometimes red and yellow) > Black and white picture generates line by line for 5 minutes > 10 seconds of even higher pitched screeching than the normal loading noise > Black and White pic awash with 8 bit colour pallete > 10 minutes > Game loaded.

These youth ragamuffins of today..... they don't know they're bloody born.
