It's annoying to see former players doing so well elsewhere where they have forgotten all their annoying habits and suddenly seem accomplished. Got me thinking what would be the best team (today's performance not back in the day).

Wayne Hennessey (Palace)

Stearman (Fulham) - Lescott (Villa) - Berra (Ipswich) - George Friend (Middlesbrough)

Kightly (Burnley) - David Davis (Small Heath) - Surman (Southampton) - Sako (Palace)

Ebanks-Blake (Chesterfield) - Griffiths (Celtic)

Subs
De Vries (Forest)
Shackell (Derby)
Elokobi (Colchester)
Jarvis (West Ham/Norwich)
Henry (QPR)
Vokes (Burnley)
Fletcher (Sunderland apparently)

Manager: MM

No room for Jacobs, Doyle, Foley, Bennett, Gleeson, Ricketts, Halford, Jones. Some payers chosen simply because I like them.

It's not a great team (The Griffiths SEB pairing is definitely dodgy) but it would hold its own in the Championship.

Now just 9 days to go until we see some action.

Presuming we can't include loans, this is fucking hard for us, we've had shite players for about 7 years and most of the them are in L1/L2 or have disappeared.

Only Billy Jones, Ross Wallace and David Nugent stand out as good players still playing. Out of ex players still at this level we have Lonergan (lol), Kelvin Wilson, Chris Brown & Alan McCormack off the top of my head. St Ledger is in the US and Mayor is doing well for Bury in L1.

On that basis...

Andy Lonergan (Fulham)
Billy Jones (Sunderland) - Kelvin Wilson (Nottm Forest) - Sean St Ledger (Orlando) - Reece James (Wigan)
Danny Mayor (Bury) - Alan McCormack (Brentford) - Paul Coutts (Sheff Utd) - Ross Wallace (Wednesday)
David Nugent (Boro) - Chris Brown (Blackburn)

Laugh away.

Subs
Loach (Notts County)
Mings (Bournemouth)
Trotter (Bolton)
Garvan (Colchester)
Martin (Millwall)
Anderson (Bradford)
JET (QPR)

Manager - none of our previous managers are currently employed as a manger, Roy Keane is the closest so I guess it'll have to be him :surr:

Not very balanced, the defence is solid and we've got good attacking options but the midfield is weak.

It's a very tricky one as our squad is definitely the best it's been in a long time, so most of the players who have left wouldn't get in our team now.

Actually now I've put the team together, it's not that bad, and could do pretty well in this league. Defence looks a little shaky

GK: Simon Moore (Cardiff - £1m - 2013)
DF: Moses Odubajo (Hull - £3.5m - 2015)
DF: Michael Turner (Sheff Wed - £500k to Hull - 2006)
DF: Tony Craig (Millwall - Free - 2015)
MD: Adam Forshaw (Middlesbrough - £4m to Wigan - 2014)
MD: Jay Tabb (Ipswich - £500k to Coventry - 2006)
MD: Jonathon Douglas (Ipswich - Free - 2015)
MD: Stuart Dallas (Leeds - £1.25m - 2015)
FW: Lewis Grabban (Norwich - Free to Rotherham - 2011)
FW: Clayton Donaldson (Birmingham - Free - 2014)
FW: Andre Gray (Burnley - £9m - 2015)

Largely our team from the last couple of years to be honest - including 5 who left this summer. Couple of players from our play off campaign in 2006, would have had Hunt or Sodje in there a couple of years ago, DJ Campbell as well.

The main one that annoys me is Grabban. Most fans could see there was some talent there, but it was the start of a new regime who decided to let him go. Big shame.

Very few good players beyond what is posted above, Karleigh Osborne was next on my list I think. Guess that's what happens when you move up from League 2, and have an owner who is quite good at keeping good players.

With loans, we'd have people like Pritchard, Sidwell, Berahino, Rhodes and Moore in there as well.

Not until you list the subs.

Thorsten Stuckmann (Doncaster)
Conor McLaughlin (Fleetwood)
Scott Laird (Scunthorpe)
Daniel Devine (Inverness)
Jack King (Scunthorpe)
Jamie Proctor (Fleetwood)
Stuart Beavon (Burton)

.....yeah.

Don't even know how that IRA prick Devine is doing in Scotland but i'm not including Neill Collins or Craig Morgan.

Michail Antonio (West Ham) - Steve Sidwell (Stoke) - Jem Karacan (Galatasaray) - Jay Tabb (Ipswich)
Shane Long (Southampton) - Adam le Fondre (Wolves) - Pavel Pogrebnyak (Dinamo Moscow)

Manager: Pardew, Rodgers and Adkins are still managing, so probably Pardew

If you can include academy players who left before 16 then put Wickham and Austin in for Le Fondre and Pogrebnyak

A few who didn't make the cut: Adam Federici (Bournemouth), Ben Hamer (Bristol City), Sean Morrison (Cardiff), Liam Rosenior (Brighton), Jimmy Kebe (Free Agent), Stephen Hunt (Free Agent), James Henry (Wolves), Simon Church (MK Dons)

Interesting thread for me this! Have to include loans as they are the only good players we ever had.

Peter Gulacsi (RB Leipzig)

John McCombe (york)
Tamika Mkandawire (tampa bay rowdies)

Jordan Mutch (palace)
John Eustace (derby)
Toumani Diagouraga (brentford, on loan at pompey)
Stepehen Gleeson (brum)
Marc Pugh (bournemouth)

Matt Done (sheff utd)
Gary Hooper (norwich)
Andy Williams (doncaster)

subs:
Darren Randolph (west ham)
Michael Rose (rochdale)
Keith Lowe (york)
Byron Webster (milwall, on loan at yeovil)
Sherjill MacDonald (westerlo, on loan at sparta rotterdam)
Jake Jervis (plymouth)
Lionel Ainsworth (motherwell)

As you can see the lads might get a bit exposed at the back...

I'm a fucking idiot for leaving out the most talented former player from our team, Gylfi Sigurdsson..

He can come in for Pog to make a 4-4-2 diamond formation, sorted.

Really struggled with the defence!
The strange thing is that I reckon only Bertrand, Jarvis and Freeman would be better than we have at the moment.

I'd probably have Charlie Daniels and Doughty in addition to those 3, but yeah not far off.

You wouldn't have Kourtney Hause? Yeah I don't blame you...
I like Hause, he played well for us, but our present centre halfs are playing so well that Ehmer can't even get in the side.
Is he not playing well for you lot then?

He's ok but he's cost us a few goals already this season. Very surprised to see he was called up for England U21's
