Since we've been in the league I would say Lee Fowler. We mostly thought it was desperation from Saunders brining him in; how wrong were we.
Came to us in January from non-league and has helped transform our season so that we might actually avoid the drop.
Scored a peach of a volley against Preston to seal an unlikely win on home debut.
(As an aside, since we beat Preston and Barnsley at home, both are unbeaten)

Freeman.

How the hell he was in a team that finished bottom last year I'll never know, he's a class above.

He spent a chunk of the season playing at left back! He improved defensively as a result but we lost our best attacking player.

Jimmy Spencer last season without a doubt. Released by Huddersfield at 22 after a bad loan spell at Scunthorpe in League 2 and he pretty much kept us up - Grealish and JCR provided the razzle dazzle but we simply wouldn't have functioned without Spencer. 100% certain that if he'd been fit this season we'd have been challenging for the top 6. As a fairly direct team without much quality in midfield - a player like him who wins free-kicks, winds up centre-backs, gets on the end of crosses and is able to hold the ball up like just about no other striker at this level because he's got the best first touch I've ever seen in this division is huge.

Fuck me, I hope when he returns in a couple of weeks he's back to his best - otherwise we're doomed.

Far to much flare and attacking intent to play Left Back!

But - as a result of him playing there, he can defend as well as attack, he frequently wins the ball in midfield.

Cotterill said, the best part about Luke Freeman, he's not just a number 10, he's a number 8, and he's brilliant at doing it.

Marshall for us this season. One of the best wingers at this level, been a class act in a meh season for us.

Pretty much the same with Ben Reeves for us. Started as a LB for Southampton so has the ability to get stuck in but now is a natural number 10 who can also fill in as a number 8.

Actually, it is, in a traditional numbered football team, a number 8 would play central midfield, and as much as Freeman is an attacking midfielder, he can do the roles of a typical Centre Mid (or number 8) and track back.

As for the insult, was there really any need?..

A number 8 is not a fucking thing. Just say central midfielder like a normal person, not a football blogger who draws triangles on screenshots.

As for the insult, it was aimed at Scumarmy (because I didn't actually see you'd used the term as well) and therefore perfectly acceptable and I shall not be awarding myself a warning point.

Your missing the point - Freeman isn't a central midfielder, he plays in a Number 10 role (am I aloud to say that to you?) or if not, behind the striker, but often carries out the role of a number 8 (or central midfielder)

I'm not trying to be some fucking football scientist, it's traditional football numbers, when 4-4-2 used to be the most common formation.

Literally none of that made sense JJH. You've confused it even more. A number 8 just isn't a position that anyone ever uses, that was my sole point.

Anyway, off to debate whether Blair Adams is better utilised as a Number 3 or a Number 11.

...I really fancy a Chinese now.

Any new staff signed to pour pints in the Carlsberg Suite under the Main Stand this season. The only thing free flowing you'll find at Gresty Road under the terrible reign of the dull one.

Andy Butler practically kept us up when Smith first took over, then contributed about 70% of anything good we did for 3 years. Smith's best signing would probably be Bradshaw this season, but he can't keep himself fit. Ledesma overall probably. O'Donnell has been outstanding this season so far. (Watch him drop a huge bollock or 8 tommorrow).

I've only seen City on a couple of occasions this season and he was quality in both games, went with a friend to the Peterborough game and he was probably MOTM, impressed with Joe Bryan and Korey Smith too, good players.

Pretty much.

First one that popped into my head though was Gordon Greer. Signed from Doncaster (I think on loan initially) when we were struggling and became an instant leader from the back to help keep us up.

Ian Henderson.

Class act anywhere across the front line, but can also play deeper.

And potentially this year's top League Goalscorer in L1 - two behind Garner and Williams, but with a game/games in hand.

What went wrong for him at Col Ewe? (And Michael Rose as well, for that matter...)

None this season, they're all shite.

Probably Billy Sharp in the past, cost a measly 100k from Sheff United, fired us to promotion to the Championship and sold back to Sheff United for £2M.

Johnson's class - proper annoys me how some Preston fans are like 'We got him for only £50k too lol, incredible' though because;

1) Villa weren't arsed about him because of his age
2) Of course he was cheap, he was out of contract in the summer and wasn't getting a new deal so it was a case of something is better than nothing. They'd have only loaned him out again and released him on a free
3) I know for a fact you out-bidded at least 3 clubs for him who had also agreed to pay the fee (Oldham and Chesterfield being two and us being a third) - and we couldn't get anywhere near competing on wages.

I know you didn't say owt Thomas, but I've seen it quite a bit and it irritated me so consider that my venting session.
