Do you feel you club is too big or small for league two, or do you think this is you natural level?

Our level (Sutton) would be National South

We have only spent 22 seasons at this level in our history of which 10 are in the last 15 years and mostly down to bad ownership, we've spent the other 86 flirting between the second and third tier (41 in the 2nd Tier (the most i believe without making the top flight) and 45 in the third so naturally its probably top end of League One as an average.

I would consider us bigger than average for a league two club but its what happens on the pitch that counts, I always consider being at this level as a failure/bad time for the club.

We are L2 super veterans. Since 1958 I think we have only spent 16 years in the division above and 5 years in the league below. This is simply our home. However we would like to move house and do 50 odd years in the league above if possible.

Top half league 1, but capable of better. But we’re the serial underachievers of British football considering the size of the city we should be able to have two decent size clubs really as we have a far higher population than Stoke for instance. That said we are competing with Leeds next door and up until 10 years ago had a very successful rugby league team that’s gone to the pits.

Have a look at history of european clubs statistics and finf english clubs.
Every club is shown from their formation, average overall attendance and how many seasons spent at each level.
A very good website.
We ( oldham ) have.....
12 yrs top flight
36 yrs championship
45 yrs league 1
10 yrs league 2
So maybe top end league 1 to bottom end championship naturally.
Total average attendance is 8827 from formation.
Off history we are probably the highest ranked in league 2, others have higher average attendances such as Bradford, Swindon and maybe Bristol Rovers.

In my 27 years - We're usually a League two team and midtable League One at best.

I remember seeing you at Eastville when you got promoted to the top division. We went down that year but beat you at Brisbane road. Should have stuck to wearing blue.

Avenue average about 450 attendance wise. They are perennial strugglers in the 6th tier, definitely not on the way up

Traditionally I’d say we are a mid-ranking L1 club in so far as that means anything. Basically us and Bradford have followed each other round for years so wherever one would be placed you can stick the other though they are far bigger in terms of support than us.

It’d be interesting to see them as a FL club as they went pop well before I was born. But will never happen they’re punching in NL North and would have been relegated if not for Covid cancelling their season. They will never get to the NL never mind higher. Might see the might Fax soon though though are only a few mile from where BPA play anyway.

Hard to argue we're anything more than a League 2 club.
We are but potential to go further which has never properly materialised over the years. Similar or smaller clubs have achieved more historically than us.

The likes of us, Mansfield, Exeter you can put in the same bracket as mid sized L2 clubs.

13th in the all time top flight table, unlucky 13th, the Bolton is now full of premiership glory hunters

Its hard to argue on our record or our current attendances that we are anything other than top half of League Two.

Doesn't stop us being desperate to go up though!

Recently we’re just a shit League Two also-ran. Historically a League One/Championship yo-yo club. Unlikely to ever see those days again (not that I’m old enough to have seen them in the first place).

Us, Swindon and Bradford seem to follow each other about, two of our last three relegations have been hand in hand with Swindon, including the last time we both graced the second tier.

I won't be the only one to say it but we're odd.

Stadium and crowd wise we are a mid table conference club but...

When I first started watching we had about 250 fans, a cess pit of a stadium and we longed to get into the Southern Premier. Some good decisions and a lot of luck later we find ourselves in league 2 wondering why the crowds are so small.

If we can continually play decent attacking football, threaten the play offs a few times, add in a cup run now and then our catchment area means we could make it to become a stalwart of league 1.

We could also end up in national south with a bitter fan base.

League One. Although we have been to as many major finals this century as Everton.
