Lost a lot of the best away games by them getting promoted; Brentford, pub on every corner, Charlton, great local derby where we always took a sell out 3,000 and their fans were generally very quiet. West Ham when we were in the Championship, Stoke, when we had to get a draw last game of the season to stay up in the championship and got it, fantastic atmosphere. Chelsea in the quarter finals of the FA cup, Arsenal in the 5th round where on both occasions we took our maximum sell out 6,000.......Ah happy days, could go on for ever!

Got a few the most recent would be Shrewsbury last season 3-1 away win a crucial 6 pointer in front of a sold out away end. Great weather, great atmosphere, great performance.

Coventry away in JPT a sold out Ricoh and over 1500 Crewe fans, under the cosh for most of it with our keeper playing a worldie. 2nd half our counter attacking football was awesome and we won 3-0 to shock/silence the majority of the Ricoh.

A number of great away days in the championship, Leeds away 2-0 to put us on the verge of the play offs on new years day, a 4-2 win at Derby, a draw up at Sunderland to confirm safety, 4-1 win WBA, Ashton's hat trick in a 3-2 away win at Wigan and our 1st trip to the Britania beating Stoke 2-0 in front of 4000+ Crewe fans.

The two I missed that I wish I hadent the Southend in the play offs and promotion at QPR.

Some great memories and many more I haven't listed especially in the championship. If I had to pick a best I'd maybe go Leeds as coming away from the ground the form we and Ashton were in i honestly thought we could challenge for promotion to the premier league. (But then we sold Ashton and didn't win again until we had to beat Coventry on the last day to stay up)

Sunderland away in '87 in the play offs.
Lost 4-3, but won on away goals.
A couple of thousand Gills fans joined by a fair few Newcastle fans.
It sent Sunderland down to the third tier.
We had people hanging out of their windows cheering our coaches along the road after the game (all with black and white scarfs and shirts of course).
Great day.

Bury away in mid April 2013 sticks in the memory for me. We were about a point above the drop and in absolute freefall, Bury were bottom of the league knowing anything other than 3 points would see them officially relegated. We filled the away end and there was a few hundred unlucky latics who didn't get in. Im pretty sure that in the same week Bury announced that they needed to make a £1 million before the end of June or face being liquidated. They couldn't even name enough subs on the bench, there club was completely in disarray.

The game itself was a dire encounter, two shocking sides scrapping for their lives. It got to 75th minute and me and my mate both agreed this was the season we would finally drop. We'd struggled to even muster up a chance against a team who had no hope left. Then in the 80th minute Matt Smith met a Kirk Millar cross and put us 1-0 up right infront of the travelling fans. It went mental and we managed to hold on for what for me was the 3 points that kept us up. It was a huge psychological boost for everyone at the club and I believe it was the reason that we managed to muster up enough points to get over the line.

Here's the goal anyway.............

it's 11 years ago now since my favourite away trip, Beating Bristol Rovers 3-0 away. bloody hell. Stood on the terrace down the side, only 300 or so of us, we went 2-0 up really quickly. highlight of the day Jamie Forrester coming on as sub for Rovers and getting abuse and cheers when he attempted a shot at goal.

My favourite's got to be Reading away in our second season back in the Championship. 5000 City bouncing around, you could see their fans staring up in awe at the party going on in the away end. It's often said amongst City fans we never recovered from the play off defeat, and whilst that's true long-term when we won that game 2-0 it put us up to 4th and right in the promotion mix in the middle of February.

Another was the season after when Newcastle came down, I've been to Wembley, Millenium Stadium, Stamford Bridge but St James' Park is easily my favourite ground of those that I've been to. That stand is absolutely massive, and up in the gods in the away section you can see out across the whole of Newcastle. And yet you still feel on top of the pitch and much more a part of the game than in the top tier at Wembley. We got battered that day but somehow managed to come out with a 0-0. The return game at the Gate was a cracker as well.

And a bit of a strange one, later that season we were getting thumped at West Brom - 2 quick goals just after the break put us 4-0 down. So with half an hour to go everyone in the away end just decided fuck it, forget the football let's just have a good time, and proceeded to sing pretty much constantly for the rest of the game. And when Hartley bent in a stunning free kick at the end we went completely mental - the home fans and even our players were looking over at us like what the fuck. As a result even though it's one of the heaviest defeats I've seen I still remember that day fondly.

For my sins, I was at all of those and Reading was a good crack. I remember going to work on the Monday to be told I had to go to Reading, happy days! One of their fans I was working with had a video of the 'bounce' from the other end and promised to put it on utube but never did. He said it looked incredible, like a 'bouncing wall of red'!
The Toon game wasn't just a great laugh during the game, which was pretty drab, but what a weekend. Great people!

This was a nobble before the game as well..

The Baggies one was surreal, the home fans must have been wondering WTF was going on in our end!
Better than our previous visit which kicked off big time.
Great memories.

Hopefully they'll be a few more of them in the next couple of years, starting with Preston! Speaking of them, great day up at Deepdale first game of the season a few years ago. Although their last minute equaliser put a bit of a dampener on things, and was the story of our season that year

Aah, the David Clarkson goal. He blotted his copybook with us, gas bastard!
Deepdale should be a good one, especially if we both have something to celebrate.

Yeah, he seemed like such a good signing that day...

Money's a bit tight right now, but I'll find a way to get to that game somehow, it's too big to miss!

Hahaha I was at that West Brom game. It was absolutely pissing it down and I got fairly twatted beforehand. Thanks to the stewards, we were directed the long way back to the train station to avoid clashing with the wba fans. It was a long walk in the pouring rain and I just remember getting to sandwell station, absolutely drenched from head to toe and stinking of cider. God knows what kind of strange deformed westcountry Creature the locals thought theyd encountered.

After meeting you a few times Luke, that's probably right mate! :brill:
You must be gutted to be away at the moment? It's awesome being a red just now.

Can't miss that one. Even my lad, who pertains to be a Chelsea fan (glory hunting little / big shit) who has seen loads of City games is going to Deepdale and his sister!!

Tbf, I can't judge him. I had a little spell glory hunting Chelsea as a kid, before my Dad had the stroke of genius to bring me along to the Rotherham game when we last went up. Been converted ever since!

Indeed. After enduring the entirety of McInnes and Millens reign with a season ticket, I feel like somebody up there is playing a horrible trick on me! I still feel the glow though even from miles away.
