Due to holidays etc first away game is looking like being Colchester on the 24th August. Anyone done Col U on the train?

What’s everyone else got circled on their calendars for their first trip

Did the old Ground but drove to the new one, its literally on the outskirts of the main road 1000 miles from anywhere.

Might do Salford to tick of the ground but probably Crewe in November as don't often go away games now I've got two little ones!

Due to having a litter of kids away games seem to be a thing of the past for me these days. I'm determined to get to my first one since Boxing Day 2015 though this season. The logical one appears to be Walsall on 19th October - day after payday and can get to it in an hour (if that) from Tewkesbury.

Will be my 8 year old's first away game as well.

Easier to drive, but if going on the train it's about a half hour walk up the road since the shuttle buses stopped.

Morecambe away on the first day for sure. I'll probably skip FGR on 17th even though I wanted to get to The New Lawn this season, and will go to Walsall on the 31st. Can't really justify the expenditure for all three. You never know though, we might fly out the blocks and be on 6 points after two games, in that case I'll probably get bitten by the bug and end up going to FGR.

I'm 50/50 as to go Oldham 2nd game of the season. It will probably depend on how the 1st game goes, as I've already done Oldham a billion times and it get less appealing each time. I certainly going Middlesbrough in the cup though.

This will be the ninth visit to Rodney Parade in eight seasons for me on 3rd August to watch the Stags.

I think this means Mansfield have visited Rodney Parade more times than any other away side.

Grimsby Town away - tasty affair.

Humberside police have brought this one forward to 1pm KO.

Our lads are setting off from Bradford at 8am, so we’ll have swilled a few Nelson’s by KO anyway. Strange decision for a game that takes about 90 mins to get to.

Allocation usually around 2k, so that’s what we’ll take. Just hope for a great start on the opening day against Cambridge United.

First for me is looking like Oldham on 14th September as I’m working the first 4 Saturdays of the season.
Sister in Law lives in Manchester so can maybe stay over and make a weekend of it, can’t do Salford on the Tuesday though as I’m back at work that night.

I don't ever remember any beef at our matches really or any of them moving to earlier kickoff times either, so yeah it is a weird one. There was a load of trouble when Sheff Utd came from a friendly a few pre-seasons ago so it could be a knock on from that maybe.

A lot of interest in this game at our end, though. I can only presume “police intelligence”.

There’s a pub mid way between station and ground isn’t there?

Hopefully first game of the season at Morecambe. Trying to cadge a lift from someone locally without much success so far.

If I don't get anything sorted then I'll probably go by train as I want a few beers during the day so don't want to be driving.

Rarely do aways because both my lads play on a Saturday morning. However, we are planning to go to Cheltenham on Boxing Day.

I want to do Carlisle but would need to book flights in advance and mid/late January just screams postponement.

My first away game will probably be Swindon in October, not been there yet.

Is flying that much quicker/easier than train? Surely you've got like 30-40 miles to Newquay/Exter and then 100+ from Manchester/Newcastle or somewhere?

Carlisle has an airport. Unsure if there are direct flights from Exeter/Newquay or not.

First away for me will be The class of 92 play thing. Led to believe only get about 800 tickets ( unconfirmed ).
Nobody apart from diehards will go to the hell hole in the wilderness that is Colchester so this will be classed as our first away game by most.

Yeah, the Dog and Pheasant - there's a chip shop next door too.

Well we can break up the walk with a couple of refreshing beverages and a tray of chips. Where’s best in town?

Carlisle airport opened this morning for the first time since the early 90’s.

Direct flights to and from Dublin, Belfast and Southend

Probably won't do any due to working Saturdays to fund a couple of home games a month. The joy of having kids.

May get away with New Years Day at Plymouth and a couple of others if circumstances allow.

Hopefully get to Northampton away. Familiar with the area and it's a proper old school filthy night out full of shitholes and regret.

If quality of beverage is important, then the Fat Cat microbrewery is your best option. 10 minute stroll from Colchester Town station. Fucking miles from the abysmal WHCS, though; you’ll need to get a cab to the ground.

Couple of decent boozers right in the centre of town at the Church Street Tavern and the Purple Dog. The Britannia has shit beer but great Nepalese food, for something different. All fucking miles from the ground, of course, as is everything of note. Except the A12. Can’t reiterate strongly enough that it’s a better trip by car than train. Nice town, though.

When we are going that far it's not going to really be about the speed/cost, more the convenience and make a proper weekend away of it. Would fly Exeter to Newcastle and make a weekend of it in Newcastle getting the train to/from Carlisle for the game.

Exeter Airport about an hour away, can turn up 45 mins before your flight and have no problems. So overall no it probably isn't that much quicker, but saves the driving in a cramped car (also drinking). Also if there's an accident or 2 on the roads along the way to Carlisle it would take an awfully long time.

The Drury on Layer Road was always a good watering hole pre match...
