Shamelessly stolen from the L2 forum. Despite the fact we're not yet finished this season, who (so far) has been your player of the season?

Only candidate for us really is the wonderful Podge; 26 league goals with 10 games left says it all really.

Hard to choose between Scott Davies and Norwood. Probably would go for Norwood.

Phil Turnbull for me, been the heart of the midfield for Darlo this season.

Rob Atkinson for us although James Hurst would be close had he been here from the start.

Ben Whitfield for us. Whenever we've played well he's normally been at the centre of our play and is a step above the rest of our team in terms of ability and creativity. I expect him to be playing in the league on loan somewhere next season.

Probably second place is Dean Snedker. Made a few mistakes recently, but overall has played quite well in goal and is probably the reason that no one other than FGR have overwhelmingly beaten us.

Got to be Connor Jennings, nobody comes close really. I was pretty meh regarding keeping him in the summer but he has made the transition from striker into a central midfielder and has about 15 goals. Also as captain he has led the team well all year considering there are much older and experienced players than him in the squad, driving the team on with his brilliant workrate.

Toss up between Jake Moult and Tim Deasy for me. As bad as the season has been so far, Deasy has prevented it being worse IMO.

Between Andy Cook and Danny Livesey, but nobody's had more than a 7/10 season for us. Cook probably edges it as we can't play without him.

Scott Davies for me. (Although if McNulty had played like he is now and been here all year, he'd have walked it). Davies got slaughtered by Accrington fans last Summer, but I'd say anyone who has a better 'keeper at this level has the best 'keeper in the league.

By far and away the best distribution we've had from a 'keeper in a long time, possibly as far back as Danny Coyne.

John Goddard. Easy. 15 goals from midfield and is still actually trying. Deservedly called up to England C and played 90 minutes the other day. Top Lad Nice and level headed guy too by all accounts. Should be playing League football next season, as long as he isn't tempted by one of the Hobby Clubs. He doesn't strike me as that type though.

Sam Jones for us. 16 goals from Midfield is superb. Has took the step up from he Northern Counties East Premier in his stride too.

Had Brad McGowan not picked up his unfortunate hand injury then he would have won. Future FL defender without a shadow of a doubt.

Yeah, it's got to be Connor Jennings. Top scorer, most assists, incredible work rate, always involved, and the most fouled player in the league. Massively important to us.

Kristian Dennis. To score 29 goals in a season is pretty good, plus the fact that he did this for a mid table team. Easily the best goal scorer we've had since Jon Parkin at his peak.

If pressed to name just one player, from several who have performed well all season, it would be Elliott Frear. He has pace, skill in abundance, can put in a decent cross, the sort of player who can put fear into many a defender when on form. He is one of a handful of players I would be truly gutted to see leave us, as he can be a game changer, but feel that is inevitable if we don't earn promotion as he deserves to be playing at a higher level.

Ahh Danny Coyne, best goalkeeper I've ever seen play for Grimsby Town, kept us in the Championship by himself for years....

There are a few who have a shout for us:

Dillon Phillips - Fantastic keeper who single-handedly kept us in a few games this season. Shame he won't see out the season with us.

Jack Barthram - Unbelievably consistent all season. Missed so much when he was injured earlier in the season.

Dan Parslow - Has been an absolute rock all season. Someone commented on here when we signed him that we won't be challenging for the title with him as a starter - they could not have been more wrong.

Aaron Downes - Captain fantastic, and still is even with his injury.

Kyle Storer - Been brilliant in midfield all season, but appears to be struggling under the pressure of the title push

Danny Wright - 18 goals in his first season with us. His workrate is phenomenal.

If I had to pick one, on the spot, I'd probably go for Dan Parslow.

To be fair a side with the likes of Parslow, Wright and Storer (whilst all decent players), based on those players records over the last few seasons, doesn't look like potential champions on paper. Shows what a good job Johnson has done

THE MIGHTY SHAYMEN
The Nantwich defender, whose name escapes me but which to be fair I never knew in the first place, who helpfully placed Jordan Burrow's pull back into his own net in the last minute on Saturday, before Shaquille McDonald could start a lemming like stampede of Shaymen to the local suicide spot by failing to connect with it or putting it wide of the open goal on Saturday. As I say, I don't know who he was but he's been pure class for us all season. :bdick:

Dale Bennett or Elliot Frear for me.

Bennett; consistent, ultra committed every week and one of the most rapid defenders I've ever seen. Best rb in the league, despite actually being a cb by trade.

Frear; again very consistent, great left foot always an option out wide prepared to take on his man and get crosses in, once again leading the assists chart. Got a good set piece on him as well.

Ours will be Rhead or Wood.

Rhead's got 23 in all competitions I think along with approaching double figures in assists. Wood has been Mr. Consistent at either RB or on the handful of occasions he's played in CM.

Amond. Might be being biased, but player of the year across the division for me. Admittedly, as has been the case for the past 4 seasons; I have only been watching highlights, live games on TV and listening to most games but I don't remember us having a player for a long time who is as consistently better than everyone else on the pitch as regularly as he has been this season.

Dan Parslow - Has been an absolute rock all season. Someone commented on here when we signed him that we won't be challenging for the title with him as a starter - they could not have been more wrong.
That definitely wasn't me and it definitely wasn't said mid-December.
