Average position of relegated teams is actually *only* 8th/9th.

This is only looking at seasons post-relegation, might be interesting looking into how teams receiving parachute payments in subsequent seasons fared but that'd take a little more work. The system has changed a few times I believe - I think it started off 2 years, then eventually was 4 years and now it's 2 or 3 (you only get the third year if you spend more than one season up there before relegation).

Average position of teams receiving parachute payments (2006/07-2019/20): 10th/11th
(excluding the positions of teams still receiving them after being relegated from the Championship as that'd obviously skew the average a lot lower)

1st: 5 teams with pp vs 9 without
2nd: 7 teams with pp vs 7 without
promoted via play-offs: 7 with pp vs 7 without
finishing in play-offs: 22 with pp vs 34 without
relegated: 8 with pp vs 34 without

Leeds won the league last season without parachute payments, but did so with a £65m loss! They would say that £20m of that was from bonuses, but FFP includes bonuses right? Regardless of the pandemic, those losses are obscene at this level. It far outweighs what they would've got from parachute payments.

I see Derby have been taken over by a Spanish businessman who has been sniffing around a few other clubs at this level most recently Sheffield Wednesday. Also rumours of one of the guys who was involved at Charlton also involved.

Probably a front for the real money man, but one to watch

Yeah, that sounds bad for Derby.

Can't say I'd feel sorry for them if it goes tits up.

Weren't Derby potentially going into administration after the previous attempted takeover fell through at the last minute? I guess this will at least put that on hold, but their situation still feels very precarious after that "trick" they pulled with the stadium to bypass FFP.

Our season tickets went on sale earlier today for next season. The club keeping the price at £400 for the third consecutive season for those who have been for 5 years in a row.

I had already written off the cash for this season and no doubt saved cash from the lack of travelling, so I decided to pay the full amount however the club have offered a 40% price reduction.

Interested to see how many people take up that offer - I certainly couldn’t blame anyone doing that of course, but if many could write off the cash, it gives us a far better chance of improving the squad next year.

Yeah ive renewed and not taken the write off, fortunate enough to be able to do that as many are not especially at the moment. Saw the club were getting bit of flack on social media for the benefits of not writing off not being particularly attractive (monthly webinars with players etc.) which just seems to entirely miss the point a bit.

Shudder to think the amount ive spent on the club over the years though and ive definitely kept it quiet from the Mrs that i could have got it cheaper this year!!!

Luton need every penny and obviously staying in this division gives us 6 million more reasons why it helps. Our investors have pumped in millions in shares every year so it’s the least the fans can do to give us the best possible chance of being competitive next year. If I was being ultra critical I’d argue that the difference should be offered in shares by the club being held by the supporters trust.

Would be curious to find out what other clubs make of this plan, with most I believe offering outright refunds. I certainly wouldn’t be doing this if our ownership weren’t genuine fans.

I'm not an STH but our STHs were given 3 options for this year:

1) Waive your right to a refund
2) Refund minus the cost of a season's worth of home league iFollow games (230 quid I guess)
3) Full refund, no questions asked

Next year's season ticket prices haven't been announced yet, prices had been flat for several years but then there was a fair hike this season. Can't remember the details but our prices are now between £342-£494 depending on where in the stadium you are. It remains to be seen if those drop back down again when we're back in L1.

Hopefully, we'll be staying up this season, but you never know with Birmingham

Our next two games are crucial! - Live Football On TV - Football on TV UK Listings

The Rotherham game in particular, if we win that I think we are safe. It would destroy the club if we were to go down.

In other news, looks like whoever gets promoted alongside us this season will get promoted into a 14-team Premier League without the big six if everything about this European Super League thing is true.

I'm shocked that this seems to be actually happening. I know it's been threatened for a while, but I'd thought there would be enough opposition to put a stop to it.

Arsenal and Spurs will love being bottom each season won’t they .

Probably soon try to come running back when they find fans walk away but then it’s not for the match going support is it ?

All to get the eye of the armchair support across the world only interested in the “best” who will pay anything to watch.

Probably won’t happen and it’s another threat to get their own way with the revenue and Champions league money so they have even more power and cash.

Well it won’t happen if it’s predicated on staying within their domestic league. But JP Morgan don’t lend billions for nothing. It is time for football as a collective to come together and stop this nonsense (which will never happen because someone will always want something more?.

Still not convinced this will actually happen.

I note that the premier league tv deal for 2022-2025 is up for negotiation this summer. This feels like a power play by those clubs to get a better deal for themselves out of it. The Premier League deal has been pretty egalitarian compared to La Liga and the like where Real Madrid and Barcelona get by far the biggest chunk. The clubs that have signed up for this surely do not like that and want a bigger slice of that particular pie as they see themselves as the biggest draw and the reason the league is so popular world wide.

I don’t believe for a second the premier league will actually kick these clubs out but does feel like we are in uncharted waters a bit now so who knows. Strong statements have been made but as always difficult to pick the posturing from the substance.

Fed up with it though, it’s as in life everything sacrificed on the altar of profit for the benefit of a select few to the detriment of everyone else. Depressing.

I'm all for those six clubs leaving, football in this country needs to be completely reset with a massive financial restructure. Strict rules around accumulating debt, emphasis on more fan ownership and less power for the top flight so they can manipulate the entire pyramid.

In other words, fuck off and don't come back.

Don’t want to be too political on a football forum but this is kind of a distillation of a lot of issues in modern society in an easily consumable message.

Everyone seems to oppose this but because some billionaires want a bit more money everyone has to suffer the consequence and inequality just grows. All gone a bit too “late stage capitalism” to coin a term from a famous economist, but was ever thus. Greed.

Surprised that Boris Johnson is (supposedly) opposed, seems like a perfect Conservative policy to me. Rich get richer, the rest can FRO.

Levy thought Kroenke was slipping BoJo the backhander and Kroenke thought Levy was - simple miscommunication. All be sorted by the time the "root and branch" review of football in the UK is completed, dont worry.

I doubt he is actually opposed.

But it’ll be a popular move to *look* like he’s opposed, like he sympathises with the man on the street.

Then a while down the line, he’ll back down, “oh we tried to stop this but there’s nothing we can do” but in the meantime, he’s grabbed the press for looking like a man of the people. Transparent, but many will fall for it.

Super league rapidly unravelling tonight with Chelsea and City looking like they are gone. Woodward has resigned at Manchester United too so casualties rapidly stacking up.

Wont hold my breath but I really, really hope this is a catalyst for reform of the game. This all didn't spring up on Sunday night out of nowhere - this has been building for years with the big clubs having far too much power. We need fundamental change.

I just hope now that this isn't swept under the rug and forgotten without consequence now that it has fallen apart. The big clubs need to be held accountable for even attempting this selfish power grab. Whether that's through points deductions, kicking them out regardless or banning their players from the Euros, the big six can't be allowed to get away with this scot-free now that they've abandoned the idea due to the outrage over it.

Agreed this needs to be rammed home now, we cant just sit back and allow the status quo to continue.

Think banning the players would be very unfair though, they clearly had nothing to do with it, this is on the owners 100%.

Absolutely outstanding how this has fallen apart over the course of 1.5 days shows you that people with tremendous amounts of wealth are not only massively out of touch but also not as smart or savvy as they would like you to think they are.

All these scumbag owners who think English sarkur is just a plaything to earn big bucks should now be forced to undergo fit and proper tests and undergo forensic tax evasion analysis that even Al Capone would never had experienced

We've come out with a one-off kit that we'll wear for our match against Reading next weekend. It's a limited run, £30 per shirt with £5 from each shirt sold apparently going towards improving the experience for fans at Carrow Road when we're allowed to return.

A bit of a gimmick, really, but a nice touch and a kit I like.

Nice to include a female player in the picture but could have picked a better looking one.
