@KieranMaguire https://twitter.com/KieranMaguire put out the financial situations for League 1 clubs surrounding the 16/17 season. Oldham, Bury and Gillingham's accounts are overdue so they're not involved in the figures. Bradford's figures are the bare minimum so they're not involved either.

It makes for incredibly grim reading for us. Lowest revenue in L1, 6th highest wages, losing millions, paying over £140 in wages for every £100 of income.

I believe there is no requirement to file full accounts if turnover is less than £5m. I.e a "small company", hence why not all the information is available.

Eventhough it was the league below, here was our financial performance up to the end of the 2017 season. We didn't get to the play off final, nor do these take into account monies received for Andre Gray (£600k), Cameron McGeehan (£850k), Isaac Vassell (£1.7m), Jack Marriott (£450k) et al.

It's only grim for Scunthorpe if the owner/s decide to take their bat home (assuming they aren't currently breaking any regulations with their spending).

Every club makes mistakes with money and overspends on mediocre players, problem with a lot of clubs is that they barely have any to start with.

I'd class us as a decent sized club, apparently we have been operating on an even keel last 10 or so years and we don't really have the resources to push past L1 play-offs. Just a fact of football that you need someone to come in and invest in you if you want to go up, especially for a club the size of Scunny.

Interesting figues. Haven't seen those before. Next years figures should look better thanks to the postive balance in transfer dealings. The club have stuck to a plan which at the moment seems to be working well. The Power Court decision is vital though for our continued progression up the football league ladder. The limitations of Kenilworth Road mean our income is restricted and while we have a supportive board in terms of investment theres no doubt we need continue with the good work in producing young talent and getting the right deals done in the transfer market. We certainly seem to have mastered the sell on clause.

Last season's figures will probably show a ~60% rise of turnover due to player sales and higher attendances/prices. The accounts showed that 2016/17 we had a £400k gain in player trading, down from £2m the season before.

This season we've already sold 5,600 season tickets, so we could hit the 6,000 mark before the end of the summer. That's not really a good thing, because the revenue per fan could well be down as more are gaining entry through season tickets which are cheaper per game, than it would be if you bought 23 singles. This is where we are held back at Kenilworth Road. It would be pointless getting promoted to the Championship in our current form, because we'd actually be losing more money at that level than at our current.

We have a set of investors who have committed to £40m of spending so far plus the further £100m that could well be needed for the stadium project. There is no doubt that we could match a lot of the division in spending power.

It was a whole 12 months ago and the latest data available. I know football and people in general can be extremely short termist in 2018, but it’s not going to change that much, unless you’ve had some significant one off transactions or had a promotion/relegation. Most teams wouldn’t have had an ownership change.

Sigh. It is 16/17. That means some of the data is from 2 years ago. Given how much we - and my post only mentioned a single club - relied on Wembley appearances and player sales, and that our owners have changed, I really think you're making an incorrect and irrelevant point and I have no idea why. We sign plenty of players on one and two year contracts which also means that your player cost base can be entirely variable in that time.

In fact, of the clubs mentioned in the original post, about half have had a relegation and/or promotion, which can be transformative, and others have had their day at Wembley, which can provide a short term boost in spending that'll distort figures looking at things on a year-to-year basis.

It’s due to the hotel at the ground that’s included in that figure I think it accounted for about 8 million or something around that mark could be more could be less

Well 1 thing you can't argue with is Bonser's ability to run a tight business.

Pretty much the 'safest' football club in the entire football league with regards to staying within the means.

It's surprising how much turnover we actually generate compared to other clubs with similar or slightly larger attendances.

I think we're not far behind you in terms of stability - with no debts and owning our stadium and newly developed training ground.

Can Rochdale please be added to the list of stable clubs? Dunno what the latest figures are, but we are known for "cutting our cloth", and can apparently afford to increase our playing budget next season.

On a slightly different level, as they have wealthy backers, Peterborough and Fleetwood both seem stable off the pitch.

With Connor Goldsons transfer from Brighton to Rangers for 3 million we are now due 500k sell on clause. Hopefully Ryan Woods deal Brentford to WBA will go through as bid now at 8 million which would net us at least 1.5 million. Will come in very handy.

We've helped our position this week by confirming the open secret that Singha are sponsoring us for at least 2 seasons, with claims that it is for a significant 6 figure sum according to the Oxford Mail.

If the Kemar Roofe transfer goes through from Leeds to Reading then hopefully we'll get another £1m+ with the sell on clause.
