Thought I'd do us a favour by staying away, but while the SWA turned up in their numbers, it sounds like a lot of the team didn't. Surprised that Mellon didn't make more use of the subs.

Agree with TW that losing McCullough for the rest of the season is a major blow, as we don't have anyone of a similar nature in the squad.
Oldham played extremely narrow and deep so that we couldn’t play any through balls for Norwood, this gave Morris, Smith and the full backs a lot of space on the wings, but our crossing was poor.

Mellon had Banks in the wrong position due to this weird shape (out wide) and Jay Harris/ David perkins could have played a one man midfield.

It needed more directness on the wing and both wingers seemed hesitant to drive into the box, possibly a lack of confidence. Sure that Mellon will pick up on all this and adjust for Saturday when Newport will set up in a similar fashion.

None taken pal.

Good man.

Anyway, by all/most accounts we were bollocks tonight and deserved nothing, which is what we got. However, after 7 straight wins and being comfortably in a play off spot at this stage, it's hard to complain considering this is our first season back in football civilisation.

Don’t think we deserved anything tonight. For all the possession (seemed more 54%) I don’t really remember the Oldham keeper having anything difficult to save. Our crossing was poor and the few good crosses no one got on the end of. We should have changed the game plan and played through the middle rather than wide. Jennings got in some decent positions which we’ve seen him score from before but didn’t pull the trigger.

Clarke had Norwood in his pocket, probably the worst game he’s had in a while and thought Banks had another crap game against Oldham.

Nothing too much to worry about, we were due a defeat and the run had to come to an end at some point. Just a shame we didn’t capitalise on Bury’s slip up.

Might upset some Oldham fans that didn’t attend if you mention possession :fl:

What my original point was is that sometimes folk like tranmere white or Devon lad can get a bit giddy when things go well, which is cool. I’m on the other side, where I suspect everything to go wrong at every oppurtunity - I like how Devon lad went missing after WUMing everyone and then getting dicked 4-1.

But as I said to the bury fans, whereas tonight is excellent from our perspective, absolutely bloody brilliant, we lost 2-1 in our last home game to Crewe, much more will change between now and 6 games.

If you’ve any more of a clue on what’ll happen than me then fair play to ya. You’re allowed a bad show after the form you’ve been on, which is phoneominal

Ollie banks is a football genius
Norwood liked being in Clarke’s pocket at Prenton Park that much he jumped right back in it soon as the game started tonight I couldn’t see anything but. A Tranmere win tonight before kick off. And as for banks and Perkins running midfield. The best midfield pair on show tonight was maouche and missilou

I'm still not sure if he should keep the job after May, but Pete Wild can clearly get a tune out of these players. He's seen we need to be direct to get the most of our best attacking player, Lang. Impressive from somebody with no history in the game whatsoever.

Going to places like Barrow, Wrexham, Guiseley etc seems to have made Tranmere fans come together to avoid ever having to play at those kinds of places again.

made plenty of noise all game only drowned out by that loud bang when that bubble burst 7 miles away in bury
Tranmere fans: "We’ve got more fans than you"

Oldham fans: "We’ve got more goals than you"

Tranmere fans: "We’ve got more points than you"

That exchange was fun.

Congrats to Oldham, they defended really well and we could have played til midnight and not scored. Frustrating, but we move on. Got a lot of time for "Oldham's a shithole, we already know" too. Thought losing at Oldham for the first time in ages would feel worse than this, but hey, tequila!

I think the early goal for Oldham was crucial, as it meant they could sit deep and play on the counter. Norwood had no space to run into and our delivery from wide areas was poor. I thought we dominated possession and passed it well all game, but we were not good enough around both boxes: the final ball was poor and both our centre halves had uncharacteristic shockers.

Callum Lang took his goals very well and was a cut above the rest of a workmanlike Oldham side. He looks a real prospect.

Fair play to Oldham manager Pete Wild, considering all the lunacy going on behind the scenes at Boundary Park.

2 absolute corkers from Lang sealed it. Both times, I thought he had over ran it but he proved me and many others wrong.
Tranmere were easily the best team I've seen up here, even though it didn't quite work for you last night, you can see you have quality all over the park. Always rated Perkins and can't believe he is playing at this level. Banks is still as poor as ever though.
Personally thought it was two good teams cancelling each other out, and our tactics were spot on. Stopped you playing through the middle and cut everything out at the back. Probably the deepest I've seen us play at home this season but it worked.
If we played with that tempo and commitment every week we would be up there but we have been way too inconsistent for too long. That's the difference between the two teams.

Got to disagree, i thought they looked decent in glimpses but to say they were the best team we have seen is farfetched. FGR played us off the park.

On the night they were lacking cohesiveness and tactically they got it wrong, but in terms of quality you could see it a mile off. 3 or four of there players would walk into our team no questions asked.

Credit to wild for winning the tactical battle

Along with you, your three sided ground and your lamentable away support. I mean how many did you have at Exeter on Saturday . There looked about 150 at most. For a team pushing for promotion that following was pathetic.

Fair play to Oldham. That Lang was very impressive up top and proved a handful. Your two centre backs had Norwood quiet all game too and not many have done that this season!

I thought we controlled the game and were fairly dominant. Aside from Oldham's two goals I can't really recall them causing Davies any trouble. Our centre backs were surprisingly shaky and Banks was woeful. Perkins though is excellent. What we lacked was options going forward when Perkins showed a turn of pace to break the midfield. Just one of those game where things didn't click but can't complain with 7 wins out of 8!

I think the away end last night sums up the atmosphere at the club right now. We're moving in the right direction and even though we've lost, I don't think anyone is disheartened in the slightest as shown by the scenes at full time. Still a lot of points to play for with Newport on Saturday now important to regaining our form. Win there and that'll be a playoff place confirmed and we can play with full freedom in the remaining fixtures.

Could be wrong but think Carlisle and Port Vale are the only two clubs who will have brought more to us than we took theirs this season.

Not bad given Port Vale visited on a Saturday in the summer and we a Tuesday in winter.
