The ref offered us nothing, the softest decisions were towards the home team, but we were hopeless and tbh how we got a point i’ll never know, maybe if we’d have played a decent side we’d have battered, with respect stockport we’re pretty average, apart from the goal they were very average and a full strength mansfield side could well have won that.

It was great to see paddy madden on his arse at the end after being a tit after the stockport goal, unlucky pal.

Typical L2 ref is a homer to be fair, he made most of his decisions going off the home crowd. Unfortunately we cannot pin the poor performance on him.

Carlisle were appealing for a penalty early part of the second half, I do think it hit Piergianni's arm but it wasn't away from his body, it wasn't on purpose and it came at him very quickly. It didn't really prevent anything either, would have been very harsh to see that given in my view.

I didn’t think for a second that one you’re referring to was a penalty. No chance.

However I thought we were denied a blatant one in the first half. Our corner, Sweeney (I think) pulls Huntington’s shirt off over his head. I’ve watched it back on the ifollow coverage and haven’t changed my mind. Don’t know how the referee missed it to be honest.

I think you are just a bit disappointed that you conceded a last minute equaliser, everyone’s judgement is affected when that happens to you.
I thought a draw was a fair result.

Clough and his staff just a bit embarrassing (all game really). As the Bradford fans alluded to the other week.

Don't think my judgement is changed by any goal or result. I didn't think we played well and haven't for most of the season.

We need to find a bit more to be proper contenders next year. But I don't think it's an easy thing to find.

What was with all the trouble yesterday? I haven’t seen it like that for a while, both sets of fans aswell.

I’m desperate for players to come back so we can actually be half decent, particularly Reed and Maris in midfield would completely transform us back.

I didn't see that one, well I saw Huntington with his shirt off but wasn't sure what had happened.

The decision I had the best view of was the one I still think the Stevenage defender should have been sent off for, even if there were other nearby defenders that might have swayed the ref's decision it looked like a clear one-on-one opportunity denied by a defender taking Edmo out with no attempt whatsover to play the ball. Had Stevenage been reduced to ten men tbh I still think the game would have ended goalless... it's more just frustration that that was our best chance of the game and it was denied by Evans-ball with little in the way of repercussion.

I agree re the Edmondson challenge. It was a just a wipe out to stop him, not an attempt to win the ball. He’d got in front of the man and yes there were players nearby but I think Edmondson would have got his shot away before the “covering” defenders got in a position to block. So yeah i think that was red but I also agree we still wouldn’t have been good enough to score even against 10 men.

The penalty we should have got would have been the best and only chance we had to win the game.

Nor was i, he didn’t do anything that specifically that turned the game just every 50:50 was daft. But as you say it’s league 2 refs

Another woeful L2 football match but a good point away from home, deserved or not I don't care. 11 to go with 7 games at home, the sooner the injured players start returning the better and we can have a good go at cementing a play off spot at least

Yeah it's obviously a better point for you for two obvious reasons. Away from home and the team who equalises that late is always bound to be happier. We do have injuries aswell tbf. It's alll ifs and buts but if Horsfall was fit, one of the best centre halves in the air in the league I like to think your lad doesn't get a free unopposed header in the box. I was nervous at the corners and your long throws, with balls then recycled back into the box, that is how I felt you would score if you were to and unfortunatley that was correct.

We didn't create much mind. I maintain a draw was just a fair result. Every game is similar for us. Always a close game whether we play a team and the top or bottom. Fine margins whether we nick the win, get edged out to a defeat or share the spoils. I just don't get a promotion vibe from us at all. Just lacking something, not loads, just another gear.

I thought Keilor-Dunn was your best player btw. Impressed by him. We don't have a tidy little number 10 type like him and that would be on my shopping list for us in the summer.

He was my MOTM on saturday, he’s been really decent since he’s moved here. One of the better signings we’ve made under clough for me so far.

Horsfall is second in the league this season for aerial success (only just behind Pearce of AFC Wimbledon), he is without question one of the best in L2 over the last few seasons.

Where are you getting that from mate? I'd be surprised if Horsfall is ahead of Waterfall purely based off Horsfall missing a bit of the season.

The stat would have to go off percentage of aerial duels won anyway by it's nature surely? So injuries wouldn't really come into it. Obviously if someone had only played like 3 times you'd discount him.

Horsfall was one of the highest last season for Northampton too so it's no fluke even if he has been out a couple of months for us this season.

Horsfall probably sold him self short going to Stockport and not going to L1 but I’m sure financially they made it worthwhile.

Dunno, I'd have thought that Most Aerial Duals Won or something would be the main stat? Top scorer isn't the player with the best minutes:goal ratio is it? I guess it would explain Horsfall being above Waterfall though so you're probably right.

This isn't me saying Waterfall is better than Horsfall or anything by the way. They're both excellent L2 CBs. Just interested in how aerial success is quantified.

Like with any stat, it's up to you how you use them.

For example, even discounting Horsfall's lesser playing time due to injury, maybe we just keep the ball more than Grimsby for example and have more possession meaning he literally has less headers to win than Waterfall does? But when he does, his success rate is higher. But then you say well Waterfall gets tested more. And you can go on and on.

Must say, not really arsed. Horsfall is superb in the air and I've watched Waterfall a few times and been very impressed with his aerial ability too.

I take the information off of Wyscout which is a very comprehensive tool. I discounted any CB who has played less than 1000 minutes in the league so far this season and looked only at aerial winning %. The top is Pearce (Wombles) at 73.33%. Waterfall has the 14th best (which is still very good) at 67.61%, Niall Maher is actually higher than Waterfall in 10th with 68.75%.

Big difference is Waterfall contests 10.14 a game, Maher 5.9 so that massively has to be taken into account. Basically im just a big nerd but I find all this sort of stuff really interesting.

Agree on Horsfall going to L1 btw. To me he is definitely L1 quality overall, but being close to home definitely counts for a lot. No doubt going off the ribbing he got from some of the players here he has added some zero's to his bank account though, fair play to him.

Interesting, not surprised Maher is up there % wise as he's also good in the air but Waterfall generally mops everything up. I'm guessing you have to pay for Wyscout? I'm not familiar with it.

I am pretty sure it is a subscription service sadly. I think its pretty commonly used across the footballing world, it shows clips of every event from every player over the last 7/8 years. So if you wanted to see a particular pass, header, shot (basically any event) from any player over any game in that time period you can see the clip for it.

It has most of the professional leagues around the world and then also has overall team statistics.

I assume its one of the things that Russell Slade and a load of players are going against in their lawsuit.

I was looking at boosting my own understanding a while back for a voluntary role hence signing up ages ago, ping me a message if you want to use my login to have a little butch at it.

Oh wow that sounds absolutely bonkers! I'll definitely drop you a message as I'd love a look at that, thanks for the offer.

And yep, that sounds very much like the sort of thing Slade is going after in his lawsuit. I don't really know where I sit on all that, it's an interesting story and I can see the argument from both sides.
