Really frustrating performance that from Luton; we more than matched Stoke for swathes of the game - in fact, we had 17 chances and 7 shots on target (even Sluga had a free header on target), whereas Fletcher and a real stinker from Powell killed the game. Two mistakes, two goals... that’s the Championship. Classic Stoke away performance. They weren’t that good and I thought were very beatable. That said you look at the quality of their squad and you can see why they’ve been underperforming last season.

If we keep playing like that, I think we’ll win more than we lose, but Hylton really needs to start stepping up now too. Joe Morrell was very useful in the middle.

Stoke really have a sign over us - they haven’t lost to us in 20 years! Final word for Sam Clucas and Nick Powell who seemed to spend more time on the floor than on their feet...

Stoke didnt really show much but did take advantage of our mistakes. Like you say classic championship type result. Thought they looked very middling though, with there resources they should be better than what they looked IMO.

I actually thought Hylton did ok today, definite improvement on his cup performances for me, looked sharper and his movement was better. Its a clear downgrade from Collins though.

Yay, we scored.

Had another perfectly good goal chalked off for a foul that couldn’t be seen from any angle on the replay.

but oh well, Millwall were a good side and could have had several more.

We look completely out of our depth. Going to be a very long season.

Well, it was an ugly one, but a win's a win and a late goal is sure to boost the squad's confidence somewhat. Whether that's enough to make up for Farke's extreme tactical shortcomings - many of which were brutally exposed at least in the first half of this match - remains to be seen. I get the feeling that this is either going to kickstart our season or merely paper over the cracks.

Absolutely horrendous tackle from the Rotherham player on Skipp. Really fortunate that it didn't leave him with a broken leg.

Seems that James Collins was left out today due to coronavirus precautions. Frustrating, but I’m surprised it’s taken this long for it to disrupt us.

Saw the replay and it looks fairly obvious that Kashket has got a hold of the keepers shirt sleeve/glove. Means the Millwall keeper can only go for the ball with one arm and directly results in the goal. It’s a small thing and not a huge push or anything but Think it’s fair enough to be disallowed, it directly resulted in the goal.

Was a good spot - Dean Ashton said the same and suggested the striker knew what he was doing.

A good example of where hearing from the official might have helped rather than just the “hard done by” manager spitting blood.

The decision could have been understood better at least.

I am surprised he didn’t call for VAR!

I didn’t see that from the live replay but others on our forum have seen it back and agreed with you, so fair enough.

Aye Stoke look quite shit again, beat us 1-0 because we played with ten men for 60 minutes and our centre back fucked up and gifted them a goal. No chance they'll be in the play-off mix.

I would agree, but this is the Championship. I'd say at least 16 clubs have a chance this season. They really should be doing better with the resources at their disposal, their budget probably being 8x the size of ours.

And do their fans really like "O'Neillball"?

Agree with you both. Just not sure O'neil is the right manager for them, its quite defensive, play the percentages, no risk football and think you probably need a bit more to challenge in this league.

Think for a club of their means they should be looking to be a bit better than that. They will win the games they should win against teams like us but i think the better sides they will struggle and end up midtable not really going anywhere.

Unchanged for us.

Interesting that we've left our attacking pace on the bench in Barkhuizen & Riis, DJ should have walked back into the team for me. Different sort of game to Brentford when our press worked wonders, Cardiff will be looking to do the same to us so I expected changes.

Harry Wilson on the bench for them but its a good Championship side.

Rudd
Rafferty, Bauer, Davies, Hughes
Pearson, Ledson
Potts, Browne, Sinclair
Maguire

Ripley, Storey, Gallagher, Johnson, Barkhuizen, Stockley, Riis

What a dog shit spectacle.

PS. This wank, advert riddled forum is pretty much unusable on mobile. Tempted to sack it off completely.

Preston done on the counter.

Wanted him to miss for being a selfish bastard as he definitely should have found the man running free down the left in a million acres of space, but a great finish so fair enough

We were shocking, Neil got the lineup completely wrong and it played into their hands.

Browne & Potts are great when we're pressing but provide no creativity when we need to break organised sides down, DJ should have started even if he was only 75% fit, failing that Josh Harrop.

Midget Maguire up against Morrison was so predictably laughable, easiest game he'll ever have, Stockley isn't great but at least his height would have made life a bit harder for them.

They were bad as well, think that was their only attack from the 30th minute onward.

Fixtures coming thick and fast now and it's at home against Birmingham for us tomorrow night. Would like to see us set up the same as Saturday, except with the now-fit Placheta in place of Idah on the wing so we can get crosses in for Hugill. Maybe slot in Pukki behind Hugill in the Stiepermann role and let them play off each other and see how that works out.

Don't really know what to expect from Birmingham, but I think this is a good time to start building up some momentum so hopefully we can get another win under our belts to keep that confidence building.

Millwall for us tonight. Still no Collins so I guess he did get COVID then?

None of the new lads start, thought Morrell might get a look having looked decent in his sub appearance at the weekend.

Another concern/disappointment at the moment is Bree. Brought in as first choice right back and basically hasn’t been fit to play.

Really poor first half from Luton, but I feared it looking at the side selected. Seemingly setting up for a 1-0 win. And up to 49 minutes it was almost working somehow despite the number of chances created by Millwall. But nice to see timekeeping being kept by the referee and said official spotting at least one defender being flattened by Matt Smith...

We were genuinely atrocious tonight. Like laughably bad. Dont think ive seen us play so badly with the ball in quite some time, some of the passing was truely atrocious.

Fair play to Millwall, pressed us all over and we simply couldn't live with it. Probably should be thankful we only lost by 2 and not 4 or 5 to be honest. Wholesale changes required for Saturday IMO, midfield tonight was genuinely awful and we have players to come and take those places now in Morrell, KDH.

Marginally better in the second half, but all in all, that was shite.

That said, well done to Millwall... I’d fancy them for the play offs.

Yep pressed us all over, as soon as we got the ball they were all over us and we simply couldn't deal with it. Thought the midfield was a bit embarrassing today from us really but Millwall caused a lot of those problems. Millwall looked decent in possession as well plus with Smith they always have the option to just chuck it in the box if needed so can hurt you in a few ways.

yeah, I thought Millwall looked decent vs us, good mix of passing and physicality.

We lost 1-0 to Reading. We actually played OK, we fought for every ball and actually got some decent passing going (not just hoofs) but are really lacking up front.

Hard work again tonight, but another win on the board after dominating possession. Birmingham set up like a typical Karanka team, so it was pleasing to find the breakthrough late on and claim the win. Cantwell was brilliant tonight and having both him and Buendia back in the team is going to be a nightmare for opposition defences to deal with; Birmingham's approach seemed to be to try and crock Cantwell at every opportunity.

Still not going to get that excited just yet, but we seem to have turned a corner now for sure. Wycombe on Saturday is going to be an interesting one: we should be aiming to put them to the sword given how they've started the season, but they'll certainly do everything they can to keep us from playing our game and it'll be interesting to see how we handle that.

I’d actually like to see us be more grindy and negative, we seem to be trying to play a fair bit of passing attacking football - which would be great but we haven’t got the calibre of player to pull it off at this level.

I expect we’ll huff and puff and tire ourselves out in the first half, then you’ll pick us off in the second.

If there's anything your manager can learn from our results it's this season, it's that trying to outplay us on the deck is nothing short of suicidal. It'd be much wiser to do what both Birmingham and Derby did and pack men behind the ball, either in hopes of a draw or to nick something from a set piece.

Mind you, I don't think we've particularly had a game yet where a team came and attacked us in return (Bournemouth, maybe, which we did lose 1-0) so trying that could well work better than either of us expect. At the very least, we'll probably gift you your second goal of the season given how the defence usually is.

Seems the Collins Covid episode threw a huge spanner in the Millwall game works. Kind if explains a little as to why we were so bad. No training, not sure would be clear to play, uncertainty in waiting for test results and people in isolation.
