Cammell Laird 1907 2 - 1 Tranmere Rovers > We had 9 trialists playing. Not really 'Tranmere' at all.
Marine 1 - 3 Tranmere Rovers > 'First' team comfortable for an hour or so 0-3. Youth team subbed on and concede late goal past 16 y/o keeper.

Good workouts by the sounds of it. Still no appearances for Riley or Norwood yet, who are recovering from knocks.

Alfreton 2-3 Notts County

Another very useful run - out and we were very unfortunate to not grab a draw as Roy Carroll pulled off a miraculous save and Ironside hit the post with the follow up.
Our Goalkeeper for the second half was former County keeper Fabian Spiess.
Superb 30 yard freekick from Thanoj for our second! Notts County were very impressive.

Brimscombe & Thrupp 1-0 FGR.

We gave virtually our whole squad half a game each, good workout overall. Result not important.

Nice set-up at Brimscombe.
Maybe not, but no National League team should be losing to teams at that level of the game. As per usual, your millions have been spunked on a pile of shite. :bdick:

Even though pre-season games are generally only a fitness exercise, and players getting an early chance to get to know their new team mates, I have to say I've been impressed with Alfreton's results so far. My initial reaction to your side's relegation from the Conf was that it would take a couple of years at least for Alfreton to assemble a squad good enough to challenge for promotion, but I think I've changed my mind :)

Early days, but it looks like you're on the right track.

I must admit I feared the same myself out the end of last season and had a horrible feeling we may end up fighting to keep our place in the North, we may still end up doing, but I must commend Ncky. He appears to have hired the right sortt of player. Our policy to sign a young team seems to be paying off as I have never seen a Alfreton team with such energy, passion and work rate. Everything that was missing last season.

Hampton & Richmond 0-1 Aldershot
Jim Stevenson with the only goal of the game.

Decent start, although not too much can be read into it as we havent seen our strongest side yet. Seb Brown was very impressive for H&R and kept it at 0-0 for a while in the first half once we got going.

Stevenson's goal was very good after Dan Walker did well to keep the ball in and find him and defensively we looked solid, although bigger tests are still to come over the next 3 weeks!

Lost 3-1 to Newport, quite a few trialists who seem to have non existant careers. Goal for Angus Macdonald and the full backs had good games playing as wingbacks with 3 central defenders.

Next up for us is Leicester City on Tuesday, a little different proposition to Grantham and Lincoln United, no disrespect. First game for Ranieri and Leicester have been out of the country so hopefully quite a few Foxes will turn up to swell the SB coffers.

Another decent away win, this time 3-0 at Weston Super Mare. What's better is that our strikers actually scored all three goals.

Yes, it's only pre-season, but the atmosphere around the club at the moment is a World away from the last two seasons. The only real trialist we have at the moment is Danny Parslow and it looks like he's working towards getting a deal, assuming the Board can stretch the funds.

We have a much bigger test on Tuesday though at home to Sheffield Utd.

And as its a prem team we're playing sky will have a reporter in attendance and maybe BT sport too, bit of media coverage for us.
Granted they are only there to see Leicester and Ranieri in particular.

Not bothered about this one either. I had originally planned to go and watch the game, as I still haven't been to Brimscombe, but changed my mind late morning and chose to spend the afternoon out in the garden with the cricket on the radio. The important thing for me is that we don't suffer any injuries, as was the case a couple of seasons back when we lost most of our first choice defenders pre-season, and that the new players get game-time with the rest of the squad.

There don't seem to be any Guiseley posters on here, but I had a look because they've got one of our players on trial (Lewis Guy). They're also trialling ex-Leeds player Andy Gray who's nearly 38, and Joe Gaughan (who I've never heard of, but appears to have recently been banned for a year). Only signed Lockwood from Oldham and Hatfield from Accrington (was at Halifax last year), and one of their key players, Andy Holdsworth has retired.
On paper, they have to be favourites to go down, but they have hung on to all their best players.

I think there is one knocking about somewhere.

Yep, I think the one with the dog (Steve?) has found his way on here. I hope his mutt doesn't fall foul of any daft ground regulation now they're in the Conference.

Two late goals for Leicester, looks like a 3-1 defeat.

Different XI's in each half for Leicester, we made a load of changes at 60 and 75.

A 'Tranmere' side made up entirely of youth players and trialists lost 1-0 to Bangor tonight. This is the second time we have fielded an entire side without a recognised professional and we've lost both. However, our first team has won 3 from 3 with a goal difference of +12, so it's going as well as can be expected really. To be honest, both sides that lost have done well to only lose by a goal considering they were literally a bunch of strangers.

Whilst understanding that friendlies mean sweet FA, its hard not to be very optimistic with the performances and results so far. :) :)

We seemed void of ideas and creativity at times last season but from what I have seen so far we will be certainly able to break down stubborn defences this year a lot easier. Trying not to get excited and stay calm but it is proving very difficult.

I've never seen such a superb pre season from us. It's not like we've beaten the likes of Derby or Huddersfield against weakened teams. We've beaten strong sides and by all accounts played them off the park.

Very excited for the season.

Results are meaningless, but the performances sound good, and almost everyone is getting plenty of game time including the first year pros which is good.

Shame the season can't start tomorrow but we have to play some more friendlies first. I'll refrain from getting too excited until we get some points on the board, but it does look promising so far. Mind you it looked promising the moment we resigned most of last seasons squad.

We beat Oxford United 1-0 tonight. As pre-season friendlies go, it was a pretty encouraging performance but I'm not going to get excessively excited like DarkSithLord. Started with basically a first choice team, from what we've got at the moment - as did Oxford I gather.

Did well I thought and the best bit was the attendance of 3693 helped by 1389 away fans.
Bit unlucky not to get a second goal when Rhead got elbowed but the ref gave nothing and Harrad had a goal disallowed too.
My last friendly now so onto the real stuff for me now on August 8th.

Were well in the game first half and at 1-1 at Ht I was very happy. Second half we made so many changes which disrupted the shape and the changes helped Leicester get a foot hold and in the end it could have been more if not for Farman. First half XI certainly were not outclassed and it was hard to see much difference between the two teams. All in all a very encouraging showing and a great gate to boost the coffers.
