I'm gutted, it's almost like they don't want that Conference North title in 2017, for fucks sake. :dk:

Steve Kittrick perhaps? Currently unemployed, didn't do badly with Telford last season (relatively speaking, he got them 7 wins out of their last 21 last season, which considering how far gone they were isn't too bad) and is from that part of the world.

Aspin won't go back there, they'll have burnt their bridges.

Cox isn't a bad shout. Don't think he'll progress them long-term, but his "attritional" style of play could give them a chance of survival.

Kitrick put together an abysmal squad at Telford this season in the North. Dont think he will be getting a job for a while

Your welcome to Nicky Law?

Until reading their forum I didn't realise Southport were a full-time team.

How are they supporting that?
Dont think they are pro now. Were in past. Could be case of managet was pro and working with part time squad

The amount of Micky Mouse Macclesfield jibes B2TF has thrown about in recent years I should be all over this, but Halifax have become so insignificant I think there's maybe an ounce of pity I have for them now.

Not sure what Southport can hope to achieve at this level no matter who the manager is - they'll just be perennially fighting against the inevitable.

I'm not convinced Aspin would be the right choice either having come fresh out of a struggle with his previous club, fair bit of negative momentum there.

Toss-up between Brabin, Hill and Edmondson for the next chop.
Is there any reason that Southport shouldn't do as well as say Braintree? Nice ground, fairly solid fan-base, doesn't seem any obvious reason for them to be at least lower mid-table.

I thought Carden should of gone earlier in the season as there was a clear lack of discipline in the Southport ranks as they seemed to have players sent off every game. Think current Port player Gary Jones will be in the running for the vacancy!
They did seem prolific in terms of sendings off, in the game against Rovers, it was their captain, for a two-footed challenge, though he got some of the ball and might feel a bit hard done by. We've faced thuggier opponents this season for sure. Would be a big risk appointing someone untried like Jones though.

Braintree are punching above their weight and obviously not everyone can.

Southport had a very good season about 5 years ago after a reprieve and ended up being well in the PO mix until late on.

On the topic of Southport, this is ridiculous:
"No manager other than Liam Watson has started a season and completed it since Phil Wilson in 2001.
"The Sandgrounders go looking for their fifth manager in 30 months since the long standing Watson departed from the club in April 2013."

They are full-time, but the wages they pay must be very low - they've got three players that Barrow didn't even want in Conference North - so it must always be a struggle. The previous two managers seemed to only use it as a way to keep their foot in the door in football management and got out pretty quickly.
Some of the names linked include Russ Wilcox and Jim Harvey. I wouldn't be surprised to see our manager end up there.

Southport are a yo-yo club. They did amazingly well to stay up last season. They're similar to Altrincham (also a yo-yo club). Difference is Altrincham do seem to have investment from other than football sources and aspire to consolidate in the National League.

Probably worth listing the reasons why Kelly was given the sack to give folk the full background on why he wasn't very good. Lasting 47 days is pretty shocking and clear indication we're in the poo, but the decision had to be right.

1. Results obviously. Grimsby (A) 0–7. Cheltenham (H) 1–7. Braintree (H) 3–6. Woking (H) 0–3. Wycombe (H) 0–4. To a lesser extent, Eastleigh (A) 1–2, Chester (A) 1–2.

2. Remarks. We could get in the playoffs, was his claim in his first interview. Fair enough, pretty much impossible but the manager may dream a bit more than anyone else if he thinks he's capable. Then we lose 0–4 to Wycombe and we'd be "unstoppable" if we reflected that performance in the league. Then before being mauled by Braintree, apparently we were going to finish in the top ten. (I think we're capable of 78 points if we win every game from now.) Complained about not having a week's window for training, then about not having two weeks' windows after that didn't work. Complained we weren't full-time.

3. Recruitment. A bit mixed and didn't help. Some potential, but the glaring error was keeper Russell Griffiths, who he forgot to ask about having any other commitments before signing. He couldn't feature for his sophomore game because he was on international duty without anyone at the club knowing.

4. DRESSING ROOM!!!!! Resorting to rumours here, players had no faith in what he chatted and couldn't get on with it. Apparently only his loanees turned up for training too, which is seriously disturbing. He'd switched training to daytime, when most of our squad's at work.

Bit of a daftie, really. I wish him well in his next job, but if it's in football management then he has as much of a chance as I have of winning Miss Vanuatu 1987.

We've appointed Dino Maamria. Ex-player and definitely unexpected. I really don't know what to make of such a left-field appointment.
