Just back from a over night Stay at Blackpool and still processing the news about Nicky! Totally unexpected!

First the match last night. A commendable effort from us and I thought we were worth a point. Flyde where very disappointing. Expected much more from they and we were the better side in the First half in truth. The game was our season in a Nutshell though. Plenty of effort and vigour but a lack of quality delivery/composure when in dangerous areas. It seems we have tightened up at the back since the Harrogate debacle but it has come at a cost of goals. More of the same second half when Clayts saw a effort saved before Tom Allan somehow got his feet ixed up and missed an open goal. Then when we were on top Nyoni made a mess of controlling a pass after a wasted corner and Flyde broke with 5 on 1 and you just knew it was going to be a goal. To be fair to Dan though he refused to celebrate and went to shake hands with the visiting fans after the final whistle which was a nice touch. Shows the classly man that he is. After that our heads dropped and the hosts grabbed a second with a Stunner from Caspar Hughes 12 minutes from time.

Very impressed with the set up at Mill Farm. Very modern. Just one thing there is no room at all in the press box!! Haha.

Now Nicky. Obviously i am disappointed to see him go after all he has achieved for us he will never be forgotten, but in truth he should have parted ways with the club after Bristol Rovers and relegation from the Conference Premier. He looked a beaten man in his post match interview and had little motivation to bounce back. He has been on borrowed time ever since

It seems Nicky and Wayne had a 3 hour meeting after the game on Saturday where Nicky put forward the news that he had been offered the position at Burnley and it was mutually agreed now would be good time for all parties to move on.

Delighted that Russ has been offered the role of First Team Coach. He thoroughly deserves it after being in the shadow of Nicky for so long. I really it hopes works out and I wish him ever success. Be interesting to see who becomes assistant. Have a feeling it will come from in house.
My money is on Andy Monkhouse or Liam Hearn who wants to embark on a career in coaching.

One think I am disappointed with is that he is not leaving immediately. His role at Burnley starts on 1st of February so I can understand he wanting to stay for Brackley on Saturday and Halifax next Tuesday but not Gainsborough. This is our biggest game of the season withut doubt, perhaps since Welling, I can understand he wanting to leave us on a high and in a stronger position, but still I dont see how it can benefit us.

I wish Nicky all the best in his role at Burnley and he has overseen the most successful period in the clubs history and for that I will be forever thankful.
I have been following Alfreton since 2008 and have only ever known Nicky as manager so its going to feel quite surreal with him not in the dug out!
Very interesting times though!

Oh great so we get the new manager's first game in charge :animatedf:
Technically Russ O'Neil `s first game in charge will be a County Cup tie away at Matlock.

Russ was manager for the first 6 games of the 2014/15 season and lost the lot after Nicky was served with a ban. To be fair they were extremely difficult set of fixtures. He has picked the team for the last two league games and last night they were plenty of positives. Not least the fact he was willing to play 4-4-2 when without doubt Nicky would have gone negative with 4-5-1.

I see Harrogate have signed Liam Agnew from Boston United.

Another step towards being full time next season. Anyone know how good he is? Captain there in his early 20s and a decent background at Sunderland, what has he been like at Boston?

Not sure surprise on Law. He looked a broken man at ours.
Would the club really take a gamble on Hearn with his chequered past? Would be a complete change of mentality from Law. If any player has the right guts, determination and history with the club at it would be Clayton for the job.

Not been to the ground but my guess would be that the pitch is on a hill so it basically keeps the fans at the same level.

Was it Nicky law who got alfreton into conference premier? I think they did ok especially after seen them in 2013-2014 season. If worst happened and you went down are they any big rivalries that would be reignited

Alfreton's natural companions are Eastwood Town, Worksop, Glossop North End etc. To talk of getting into the Football League, as they were doing a few years back, was the funniest joke going at the time. :bdick:

Really need to pick up as we have a tough away trip to Salford in 2 weeks.

Alfreton fans were in good spirits and gave Dan brads a great reception, so all in all a good night and a vital 3 points but we must perform better in the coming weeks or our points advantage is going to drop
I think i speak for the whole non-league community when i say that i sincerely hope that your all fur coat and no knickers hobby club and it's bunch of mercenary pay cheque chasing players pull through this difficult time. All the best.

I would love to see Clayts given it dont get me wrong I just dont think he is cut out for a career in coaching. Think Andy Monkhouse may be given it.

It most certainly was. They are a number of local rivalries which would be reingited (Matlock and Buxton. Unfortuantely its looks like Ilkeston are heading for obvillion again and then of course there is Micklover Sports too, managed by formed Red John McGrath.

But I would much rather stay at Step 2!

I'm sure you'd would. Any big rivalries at step 2/ don't seem any teams nearby at that level

Games this weekend:

Fylde vs Altrincham
Alfreton vs Brackley
Darlington Vs Curzon
Halifax vs Stockport
FCUM vs Salford
Gloucester vs Worcester
Harrogate vs Gainsborough
Kidderminster vs Nuneaton
Stalybridge vs Telford
Tamworth vs Boston

So BPA and Chorley not playing. With Kiddy playing in form Nuneaton it gives a great chance here for Fylde.

Some big games among the play offs, tough derby for Salford, Halifax play Stockport, so may play into hands of Darlo, Brackley and Tamworth.

At bottom Staly have a must win 48 hours with Telford then Tameside derby on monday

Nuneaton maybe in form, but surely with Kelvin Langmead and Exodus Geohaghon as centre backs, all we have to do is run at them with some sort of pace and we'll be fine?

Nuneaton are in decent form but did get trounced at Salford on Tuesday night. Confidence may have taken a hit especially as they surrendered a 2-0 lead v Brackley last weekend.

I think Curzon will give darlo a good run for their money on sat. Wish i could go having done both feethams and the arena but moving flat.

Should fire out lot up to play at a packed ground and good crowd, plus we looked back to our nov/dec best last week having added Warburton. Think we will grab something herr.

Think darlo will take this one 2-0 or 3-1. We've been good for goals all season and I don't see that changing. As for Curzon youre normally known as one of the more footballing sides in the league. It won't suit you at Blackwell Meadows. Unfortunately the pitch work which is planned to be carried out won't be done till the summer, because of the rugby and soft soils used the surface is incredibly bobbly so not suited to teams who want to pass the ball around.

Hope we can keep a clean sheet, it would only be our 3rd of the season. But I'm confident in our attacking players that we can out score you.
