Useless fact of the day - Ashford's second goalscorer plays for my sunday league side.
Used to be a very good Ryman League player did Shaun Welford. Goal machine back in our Ryman South days..

What the hell is that kit all about?! Very commendable shirt sponsor but my god... the colours... the design... what were they smoking?!

Very poor keeping for Gainsborough's first goal. Regarding that Gainsborough sponsor on the kit, it's like when your Word document messes up and it starts writing everything on separate paragraphs.. All for a good cause though.

Yeah it's more the Harlequins/Corinthian-casuals approach to colours that really don't go together kit design I was referring too.

Haha yeah, I'm guessing that the colours are important to the charity and they couldn't think of any other way to implement the design using them.

Yeah, that's our young 'keeper who got his first pro contract this summer. Cowley mentioned he was unimpressed and felt he could have done better.

Haha wow, Cowley's not one for giving youngsters time then! No messing about from him! Brutally honest.

I see Dave Syers was amongst the triallists for us on Tuesday, him and Marcus Williams would make great additions to our team.

Mark Beck and Joe Thompson on trial for us today - think he must only be looking at Beck because he fits the big man role, but absolutely useless. Thompson, I've no idea about other than he played for Tranmere and Carlisle.

Was diagnosed with cancer when with us, but before that seemed a decent winger in league one. Really nice lad as well.

Beck had about 2 good games for us and then he just changed, couldn't hold the ball up, was getting out jumped and was more interested in a wrestling match with his marker than get to the ball.
Thompson also played for us, but I think he got a long term injury on his debut and we never saw him again. Very unlucky guy.

I took myself off to The Weaver Stadium last night to see how Nantwich Town fared against local League 2 opposition in Crewe Alexandra.

It was quite an entertaining game. Crewe's first 2 goals were courtesy of 2 howlers by Nantwich 'keeper Dave Parton.

The other 2 goals were later on in the game but i'm afraid i couldn't tell you who scored them.

Final result: Nantwich 0-4 Crewe

He was a bit of an "out there" signing for us when he came from Newcastle (Staffs) in 2014. Dodgy keeper

I have to say I find it very amusing that both of their goalscorers are ex-Stones. Thought I saw Micky Phillips in that video as well! Doesn't exactly inspire confidence that our old players can beat us, even if it was with a youth keeper in goal.

Have to say I agree with you about 3G pitches. Keeping a team's pitch in good condition is just as much of a skill as actually playing, it's all part of being a well run club.

I agree 100%. If you want to play in a professional league you should be able to maintain a decent grass pitch. Anything else is tinpot in the extreme. Football's meant to be played on grass.

It was a "top secret" behind closed doors friendly. So a glorified training session really. On our part, I think the manager was making his mind up on a few players that have been with us all summer.

So apparently Doncaster can't get a team together due to injuries so our friendly with them on Saturday has been cancelled...do they not have a youth team of any kind they can use?

http://www.harriers.co.uk/news/arti...iendly-is-called-off-on-saturday-3198639.aspx

Hm, interesting, we're supposed to be hosting that lot on Tuesday night. I wasn't too bothered about the game as we play them in the JPT every season anyway...or at least we did  Could probably do without it as we're at Harrogate Town Wednesday night anyway.

Bolton's first team tomorrow, then a Newcastle XI next Saturday and that's our lot.

We beat local side Gresford 1-0, now the usual suspects on our forum are having a mass froth.

Didn't realise you had 4 ex players in your team, thought oli Johnson had gave up years ago
Olli had a long standing injury which was repeatedly misdiagnosed keeping him out of the professional game. He joined us to play as and when he could and found a specialist that correctly diagnosed the injury, operated and fixed it. To his credit Olli has stayed with us. We all hope he stays fit and enjoys a full season.

We eventually ran out of legs tonight against Leeds and lost 3-4.

Pack your bags Mills.

It wasn't great, but there were players playing in unusual positions that just didn't work and key men Rooney and Barry were subbed after about 25 minutes. We generally looked okay before that happened and I was impressed with the amount of talking going on between the players. Constructive organisational stuff too.

It's the first I've seen of the squad and I'm not going to make any rash judgements on individual players based on that, but we do look a little light up front and Bakare, world football's most puzzling signing of the summer, did nothing to unbaffle my brain.

Going to the home match vs Carlisle today - haven't seen any of our new signings yet, but this one's always a good test. I think we'll confirm one or two triallists as signings after the game: Coughlin looks like he'll be our reserve keeper next season, and Belezika has been with us for a few weeks. We're still a winger, a defender and maybe a forward short.

I think that was because Gresford put in quite a few heavy challenges. We definitely couldn't afford another key man to get injured so Mills did the sensible thing and got them off early.
