I think sacking Ardley makes us more likely to implode and not finish in the play-offs to be honest.
Without a better strike partner to join Wootton and another player to add some dynamism in midfield I'm not convinced we'll get better results beyond the new manager bounce of a few games.

Heard the name Derek Macinness mentioned which sounds more plausible than anything else I've seen.

I think we’re solid enough to pick up enough 1-0 wins and draws to finish comfortably in the play-offs, but this all adds an element of the unknown, particularly as there’s no sign of the players being anything other than totally behind NA.

Richie Wellens is the only name I’ve seen that really makes any sense. McInnes surely achieved enough at Aberdeen to get a far bigger job down here than ours.

You'd think so but if we've a big budget and some potential perhaps we look a good prospect.
By the sounds of it as should know tomorrow.

I’m going to predict Wellens, think he ticks a lot of the boxes from the little I know about him, and we did quietly extend the loan of that lad from Salford about an hour before announcing the Ardley news..

Could well be. His CV and stats not really as good as Ardley's overall.
Salford didn't work out great, high expectations and demanding owners but has a promotion to his name from Swindon.
Clearly not useless but we're a graveyard for managers, of the five promotions I've seen us get three of them took England managers to achieve, the other two Warnock who holds the record for promotions.

Not surprised at all, he's signed a million players and is further away from success than he's ever been.

They’re pretty good I thought - higher win percentage and won the League Two title last season.

I’ve just discovered that the worse thing about being in non league isn’t the dodgy grounds, the dirty opponents or the crappy refs, it’s that no one bothers to do any next manager odds.

I‘m desperate to put a tenner on Alan Curbishley.

Betvictor seemed to be the only one who put up a book for manager specials, definitely have for us and our several managerial changes whilst we’ve been down here.

Often times there’s really only two or three serious names on it, the rest is filled out with Gary Mills, Paul Ince, Peter Beardsley, Gary Breadbin and Jeff Stelling.

Gannon seems a distinct possibility, which I am.. not sure about.

Or not, we’ve appointed Ian Burchnall. Manager of Ostersunds, Graham Potter’s former assistant then successor there.

Interesting, sounds a bit Rusk-like, prefer the sound of him to some of the NL journeymen that were being linked.

I’m buying in long term, but I think there’s probably a decent chance that this blows up our season.

I would have predicted this type of appointment.

We're like two County's but the soul is one by the sounds of things, Notts fans. Stats obsessed- check.

Our new guy young Brighton's u23 "coach" with links to Potter.

Both going for the "modern coach", I bet he's an awfully nice guy like Simon Rusk is and I bet he intends to get the ball on the ground and play with a "nice culture". But if you're like us, you will wonder- is this what is cut out for this league? Especially when you see 4-4-2 plastic pitch Sutton walking away with the title.

Our man’s never played a game of professional football. Doyle’s actually going to kill him.

Although, looking further at it, managing that Ostersunds for two years isn't to be sniffed at. I just thought he was still the assistant or whatever when I skim read it. Ostersunds competed in the Europa League and I presume compete near the top of the Swedish top flight. Far more professional managerial experience than Rusk had.

Definite similarties though between the two clubs and the vision to progress.

He’s managed Viking in Norway as well, one of the best supported clubs in Scandinavia. I think the timing here is just weird because this is the man they’ve wanted for ages and suddenly he was available, unfortunate for NA but there we are.

These aren't the appointments we're used to but it sounds like the people who run our clubs always had this vision. I know we did. Our appointment was more unpopular because despite Ardley being well liked at Notts, Gannon was a club legend which stoked fires even more. But this, D.O.F, head coach model was always planned and I'm not narrow minded enough to say that isn't the way football is going because it is. I would have rather us starting going down the route after we'd shithoused our way out of this league though. But we'll see.

I’m surprised our owners persevered with almost two seasons of Ardley running a fairly standard old school English set up to be honest, when you look at their background.

Rest of this season probably depends on how the experienced lads react. I suspect some of the younger ones who’ve never convinced Ardley are probably quite excited.

I bet he stays in Norway until he’s got someone to tell Doyle he’s dropped for Aldershot.

Less concerned about Burchnall’s relative lack of managerial experience now I know his assistant, Maurice Ross, is a former manager of Sola FK, Egersunds IK, TB/FC Sudory/Royn and Vikingur Gota.

Interesting appointment, gone down a slightly different route which is pleasing to see. As we and others are starting to do too.

The Notts County owners do realise they are still in the National League right? Odd appointment, would love to know his knowledge of this level, of Maidenhead, Bromley, Wealdstone, Kings Lynn, Woking et al. Vanity hire.

It’s a fair point, twenty years of appointing managers with extensive experience and knowledge of the leagues they’re in has served us well.

It’s clear this is the owners deciding that this is the time to put their project in to place, and Burchnall was always going to be the kind of guy that followed Ardley. Will it work? Who knows.

In previous years, this is one that screams disaster.

The general rule of thumb was that those sides who got out of NL had an NL-experienced manager and a good one at that. That said, I'm looking at the NL line-up this season and aside from three or so (Gary Johnson, Luke Garrard and Dave Challinor stick out), are there really many like that anymore? The Chesterfield manager might end up being decent enough, I don't know too much about him, or Sutton's manager, but in terms of County going out and getting the kind of manager who would historically tick the boxes, it's a pretty small pool now if they wanted to do that.

Perhaps the changes seen in the FL over the last few years have started to filter down here.
