That can’t be true, Who Needs Mourinho said Appleton wanted to come to Stockport.

Even though it’s a two division drop, I am surprised that Appy hasn’t already crawled on his hands and knees to take over at Edgley :fl:
Just said what I was told by the same person who had got lots right in the past.

"Dave Challinor has this afternoon informed the Hartlepool United Board that he wants to leave and join Stockport County FC.

This follows an approach by Stockport to the manager through his agent during the course of last week, which Hartlepool United were informed of on Friday.

As a club we were disappointed the first approach did not come direct to the club. Also that this was so soon after Dave signed a new three year contract.

We believed we were building something special with Dave and this squad - matched by the magnificent support the team has received, home and away.

Therefore, we declined a request from Stockport for permission to speak with Dave on Sunday.

However, after speaking to him again on Monday, he has verbally notified us of his intention to leave.

Ultimately, it is crucial that the manager of our club is 100% committed to the job. Dave had made it clear he wants to leave.

Coach Anthony Sweeney will take charge of the team for Tuesday’s fixture with Everton and for the immediate future as interim manager while the Board consider its position in relation to this matter. "

Exactly like us with Ricketts.... Good luck to him

Football is a short career generally. So it's understandable that players and managers move purely for money. It certainly won't be for job security as not many NL teams keep managers for very long

Hartlepool should dig their heels and demand a big fee from Stockport if they want their man.

Challinor legend status up in the north east diminished over just a couple of days, sad to see

I hate seeing clubs getting shafted like this, since Allardyce did it to us all those years ago. There should be a ban on managers moving clubs mid season. You can’t just pinch players, why should you be able to pinch managers?

He's not leaving for nothing.

Difference between a manager and a player is that a managers get sacked for poor performance whilst players don't. Once you set those rules out, a manager always has more wiggle room than a player. It is a silver lining to their fragile job security.

Loyalty is at a premium in football and it works both ways. Even more so with managers than players. And thats both ways.

Stockport must be offering Challinor a fairly sizeable salary to prize him away from a safe job in a relatively big side from the division above?

Yeah but it’s not like getting sacked in the conventional sense, they get their contracts paid up.

Of course there’s no loyalty in football, but someone shouldn’t be able to sign a 3 year contract one week and then say ‘Bollocks to you lot, I’m off’ the next.

It is what it is, personal feelings aside you've got yourself a great manager, who'll have you playing proper football, he'll have MSH and Kitching doing the business.

Definitely

Depends what the contract said.

I'm pretty sure we will pay something for him but at the end of the day if Challinor signed a contract that said "if someone pays x amount" or "if I verbally ask to leave I can go" and Hartlepool sign it off and parade it around as a wonderful 3 year contract, that is their own problem.

If Challinor does well with us and a side further up fancied him and Challinor wanted it, I would say the exact same.

It's just different with managers. You can't have a manager who wants to go. Manager has to be stable otherwise players will shirk it. Wouldn't be stunned if Hartlepool's players had caught rumour of it with a lot of the flirting between us and Challinor going on last week. Hence their 5-0 weekend gubbing, all it would have taken is one player to ask him if it's true and he gives the same non commital answer he gave to the press, the players aren't that daft.

What sort of rinky dink outfit do you think Pools are.

Pools think he's been tapped up illegally and are in contact with solicitors, dunno where it leaves DC at this moment in time, still officially our manager, just told to stay away? I imagine Stockport will pay up his remaining three years and Pools will be happy to wash their hands of him.

Whatever it it is, it's a done deal at our end.

Whatever Hartlepool are going through for damaged limitation or what they're trying to say to the press etc is irrelevant.

It's done. I wouldn't be surprised if he's announced at our end tomorrow.

Oh I agree, it's all posturing, it'll be done and dusted by the week's end, DC couldn't even tell the fans himself he wanted to leave, he's got their lass posting iPhone notepads on Twitter.

I'm gutted, but I'm not surprised. In fact my only surprise is that he didn't leave sooner, and I was gobsmacked when he signed a new contract. His frustration has been obvious in his interviews over recent months. I don't think I'm going out a limb if I suggest that Challinor and Singh were not the best of mates.

No doubt he’s getting a hefty pay rise but I’d also factor in a move back to the north west and a bigger budget and long term ambitions.

On Saturday, our in house commentator said we expect the new manager in on Tuesday.

People give these timelines about turning down the approach on the Sunday, it's all just a game. It reads to me like it definitley needed Challinor to say he wanted to leave verbally. Whether that triggered something or meant Hartlepool get something more £ wise I don't know. But I reckon we knew Challinor, most likely late last week, would hold his end up of the bargain.

Dave C's wife Kate has been getting tagged into some abusive shit from some of our more obnoxious twitter pricks. Easy target; she's on twitter, he isn't. She's put out a statement suggesting that there's more gone on here than simply jumping ship for more money, and she hopes those angry Pools fans will think more kindly on DC once the full story comes out.

The abuse is incredibly crappy and obviously unwarranted, but putting out that statement with an implication of trouble brewing behind the scenes is like saying 'we know something you don't know' as they ride off to pastures new, it's only gonna inflame what is already a pretty heated situation.

Yep. Occupational hazard of having a good manager... they get noticed. At least he achieved what we desperately needed. Getting out of that league is fucken tough, and I can only be appreciative of the job he did in getting us promoted. Stockport have got themselves a good one, and they have better foundations in place than we did, so DC's job is theoretically easier, but it still a big task to get back to the EFL.

Also gutted to hear that that nice Mr Waite ended up imprisoned in Iraq as well as Lebanon. The bloke had no luck :-(
remember a story about Terry Waite when he was in belfast, he got into a cab and asked the cabby to take him to his meeting. When the cabby reconised who he was he replied, would you not be more comfortable in the boot.

the wives always do stuff like this

I got in a little bit of an accidental twitter war with Brian Littles wife a couple of years ago after tagging him in something about managers who were past it and she said similar

Folk on our forum are saying we approached Appleton a few weeks ago (the time we beat Wrexham) but he turned us down
It may have happened but I'm still struggling to get my head around that one. There's being ambitious, then there's being stupid and that, at the minute, definitely falls into the latter.

Aside from location, there'd be absolutely no sense whatsoever in Appleton even considering Stockport.

Danny Cowley was apparently approached by Stockport but he was too busy just focussing on Portsmouth’s next game to consider it.

Looking increasingly likely that Andy Woodman is coming to Pools, you're welcome Brothers, we're gonna Chris Bush our way to EFL safety.
