Right result on the balance of play, we were good first half and they were good second half. Did very much feel like we self destructed more than anything though by trying to settle for the narrow lead and invited pressure. Happy enough though considering we had such an enormous amount of injuries.

Alfreton’s goals were a joke, first was a blatant foul and the second Denton has admitted he wasn’t really sure even crossed the line.

In love with Willoughby already, what a player. Criminal of Askey, Watson and whoever was in charge of the hobby club to use him so badly out of position previously.

Strong away support and it very much felt like we outnumbered the home fans. I know what their support level is but to have such a low one on a sunny opening day of the season is surely a huge alarm bell ringing.

For a 3rd consecutive season Adam Nowakowski has signed for Bradford (Park Avenue), for £1 a week.

Top man what a great guy!

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
Curzon 1-2 Banbury

Fair result, no complaints could and should have been worse. Worrying signals for me from Curzon who seem to lack ANY of the traits which has helped them defy the odds season after season here.

Couldn't keep possession, made lots of mistakes, lack workrate, bottle, fight, dithered on the ball, , no real strength, very very slow, sluggish and well almost anything.

Banbury looked effective, if limited, using most of the traits we normally have, worked hard, got stuck in, little bit of the old play acting, but dont give you time on the ball and run about all over the place, you could say they out-curzoned.......curzon.

should have had a good 4 maybe 5 goals before they did score, then for some reason let their guard down and we finally got into the game and scored, then had a pretty even last 20 odd minutes which could have gone either way until at the death Banbury got a penalty (fair from looks of it) and scored to win it.

on that showing we are a relegation battler, whether enough to stay up will be interesting, the talent can be there, but it seems to have lost them big key attributes CA have always had to battle at this level and if they don't get found.....the workrate, the desire, the passion, the teamwork............down they will go.

Looking forward to next Saturday now with a win under our belt, any news on segregation in place with it being our first away game. I know theirs a lot travelling down.
It was said at a recent meeting I attended that there were no plans to segregate any game this season, no doubt that may change depending on police advice. Cant see us stopping you taking the points.

You will be interested in yesterday` s dull but efficient win against Scarborough. Three key players gone, plus five others, so a huge rebuild by Kevin Wilkin. Only four left now from the Wembley winners. Solid, not particularly exciting to watch, but a win is a win. Will take time to settle, and your ex and our top man Shep Murombedze hopefully returning (from holiday?). Scarborough looked OK, and may be OK at this level, too early to say. If we can avoid defeat at yours, and Kings Lynn (love this league, hundreds of miles in four days), maybe there can be another top 5 finish. I`m guessing upper mid table this term. Probably need a decent big guy alongside Stead who looks promising.

Don’t think anybody could blame Askey,he came in plays his system and it worked to get out of this division.
Watson is another argument altogether, always signed 4 strikers and tried to get them all on pitch meaning no balance.let’s not forget we had Langstaff before him and he was sub/right winger.
You have dodged a bullet not keeping him on.
Every York fan wants Willoughby to do well, great bloke and player and I for one can’t understand why Flyde fans don’t rate him.

Our game away to Spennymoor has been moved to a 1pm KO on police advice as the chaos from the last couple of seasons there.

No alcohol sales to Darlington fans on the day either in the ground.

Seems like Durham Police are pining all the trouble on Darlington, but lets recap back to Boxing Day last season when we bricks etc launched at us from the locals next to the ground.

2nd game already this season that has been moved to a earlier KO, 3 if you include Whitby away in Pre-Season

Well a poor start result-wise, but apparently we weren't as bad as that score suggests.
In answer to the question of the league in 22-23- I'd say Flyde are favourites, boston have lost players (the aging Green, who looked great still on the last day at Throstle Nest in May for someone pushing 40, and Hanson who they got off us - who looked over 40 despite claims to be mid 30's!!)

As for the rest, I expect darlo to be up there. Chester- I'd have thought the manager's lack of experience/age might be a worry.
I would expect the Celts to be probly bottom half... between 14th & 18th come the end of the season. Below us - likely to be scarboro (their own supporters don't know how they fluked promotion last season!), peterbro, banbury, park Ave, leamngton, curzon- 'enjoying' Lakeland's 5.4.1 formation at this level!!
We now have a good manager in Russ Wilcox. He pulled some rabbits out of the bag in the last 3rd of last season. I anticipate the same.

In fact Green & Hanson have gone to worksop, along with a former Polish International goalie and other players from this sort of level. Not gonna get yrs out of green etc surely, but they should be v v good in the NPL 2nd div this season!

We've signed Danny Devine from Carlisle and Keiran Coates from Stoke, covering defensive midfield and right back respectively. Early long-term injuries meant cover needed, but happy with these signings.

Farsley Arkan, as far as Calum is concerned, he has managed our (very successful) youth team for a number of years and I think many will be surprised by what he can achieve.

What a poxy miserable club Spennymoor are with their goody two shoes supporters who are just a bunch of tools.

And they've only given us 600 tickets once again. I begrudge giving the bastards my ticket money I'd rather donate the money back to our club. I say fuck-em stick their tickets where the sun doesn't shine.

I know local youts throwing anything over the gates and the police did sod all about it.
And we get all the blame, they don't work side by side with the police I think the police work for Uncle Brad.

I’d say Lakeland won’t last until November if it doesn’t improve. Curzon lacked the sheer basics on Saturday all Curzon sides have normally……battle, fight and workrate.

Think Curzon fans let them off on the quality……we ain’t competing with others on that front, but no excuse on the slow, plodding effortless stuff.

He must surely have something there he was apart of the Curzon set up rising up the leagues and got you up into this league but it seems so cautious in approach from him at this level.

He has plenty of experience. Been coaching since a teenager. Problem is we've got 7 players out, one for season and another for a lengthy period. He managed to bring in 2 new signings yesterday ~~ Danny Devine from Carlisle and Keiron Coates from Stoke.. Both played much higher. God knows where we're getting the money from.

I liked Hall last week, raw but worked hard and his hold up play to set up the first goal was great. You're right in that he won't score many though.

Devine is a strange one, we certainly need him because we have two central midfielders both out for 7 months each. But he featured regular for Carlisle in League 2 last season and despite being released their fans still speak very fondly of him.

You’d have thought he’d get a club higher ranked than us, that’s what fans of his previous clubs think, but here he is.

That happened the first time we played Chorley. An elderly Chester fan was hit by this half house brick (needed hospitalisation). I saw a policeman and told him where it had come from and he told me to move on. Just a paid jolly for police .

Well, Lakeland did do ok in the NPL with us, More than, tbf. Played 442 initially, then we got up with 3.4.3 AND some new players, but almost immediately he went to 5 stuck at the back & 1 up front and basically stayed like that. Seemed to be trying to grind 1-1s and nil nils out. Which can work out for you, granted. Especially with 1 down or sumsuch. But with 4 down this season its a dangerous game to play.
He also p*ssed off a large section of us when the new owner changed the club badge, went to the stoopid green kit and crazy 'name' change for our Throstle Nest ground etc,. All unconsulted and dropped on us as a nasty week of shocks a couple of yrs back. Lakeland -whether under instruction or thru' a misreading of the true supporters, defended all this AND was v critical of the support. Some of us never forgot or forgave that, and he was tainted as a result.

Regarding the new chester bloke- i wasnt having a go, just questioning if you were happy/concerned given his age & lack of adult management experience. Seems you are all pretty keen, so fair enough. We'll see how he does. :)

We've had some mediocrity since Neil Young stepped down with Jon McCarthy being the low point. Bern and Jonno had longer than they deserved. In Cal we trust. Superb win today against a very good Brackley side. Someone's going to have to score a very special goal to stop Kole Hall's goal being goal-of-the-season.

Decent game at Chorley v Darlington. I think overall a point each was probably about right, both sides had periods of dominance but again our lack if goal threat was evident.

Strong win that for us today and to think we still have so many players out.

Hall & Willoughby looks a serious partnership up front and great to see them both get on the scoresheet.

I thought they were typical Brackley solid but with nothing in the final third, we on the other hand could have scored five in the first half.

City 2 Boston 0. We really should have won by more, very unimpressed with Boston who looked substandard today.
