Stockport County.
Going off the list above, it's dawned on me we've not played 6 teams yet and 5 of them are in the bottom 9. The other is top of the league Orient.

You could argue we've been fixtured out so far, which could end up being the main takeaway for everybody.

Colchester were the worst I've seen, Harrogate shit but organised, Crawley terrible don't know how they beat us but they did look like they had threats going forward.

Rochdale's squad looks underperforming to me for its "on paper" level and probably similar with Crawley.

I reckon it'll be 2 from Colchester, Harrogate and Hartlepool. I hope the first two. But a lot of football still to be played.

Carlisle in prime position for that.
Crewe doing an elongated season long version of it too perhaps? Two wins out of two to open the season, since then only two single goal wins at home to Sutton and Crawley. One of the youngest squads in the division with a bit of an unknown manager. Usually find their feet at this level and go on a great run, but the first third of this season doesn't look promising from the outside looking in. Hope I'm wrong though.

Crawley will stay up. They've got 1 million YouTube followers across their squad remember. It must count for something.

Just watched a video of this bloke. He actually comes across as a decent sort (Tobi not barramatt). He says he doesn't expect any of them to be part of the squad tomorrow but says it has been great fun and he has posted a few training ground videos that have knocked spots off our normal numbers therefore earning us a few quid.

He actually comes across miles better than our owners and speaks like a proper football fan.

Thank Christ the rest of you no hopers are as bad as us!
I cannot tell you how thankful I am that there are two teams keeping us out of the bottom two. The take-over needs to hurry up before the transfer window opens.

Can defend (apart from for the first goal we conceded today), but can’t score any fucking goals. Northampton looked like nothing special, but they really didn’t need to do anything much to win with ease. What a depressing couple of years it has been.

Big game on Tuesday. Crawley v Gillingham.

If we win it puts a bit of distance between us and the bottom two. If Gillingham win they are out of the bottom two.

I really don't think we are very good but I'm hoping there are a few teams who will pick us less points than us. I was looking to see who we could bring in to the side from our reserves and they went and lost to Hastings in the Sussex Senior Cup. Forget that lot then.

Casey.

You won't be missed if you go down, no offence but Gillingham is one of the most unfashionable and forgettable football league clubs there is in my mind.

Hopefully we can bow out of this thread now. 9 unbeaten in all competitions and 14 points from a possible 18.

I don’t think that’s a very nice thing to say.

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
It seems strange gillingham down there, the last time I remember them struggling was back in 1994 when they had a run down ground, about 1300 fans and like a few clubs in the early 90’s…..Carlisle, Wigan, gillingham looked almost bankrupt.

Then they had their takeover, but maybe it’s been far far too long for scally being involved there.

Yeah our ground was awful back then, a whole side had been condemned and the areas with a roof leaked. During the 93-94 season we went in to administration as our owner at the time could no longer afford to keep us going, we did manage to cobble about £15k together to buy a striker when we couldn’t score though. Chris Pike, uncle of Gareth Bale (fun fact), came in from Hereford and scored 12-15 and we were comfortable, although still utter rubbish, in the end. I don’t think those type of signings exist any more but my god we need one.

This is as depressing a time as any I can remember as a Gills fan. If we fall out of the league I think that may well be the end for the club, we’re struggling financially as it is and the drop in revenue would be too much to bear.

BUT, and it’s a big but, we are rumoured to be going through a takeover, we don’t get tonked every week and generally can defend. IF the takeover happens and we do have a little money in the pot in the January transfer window then it wouldn’t take an awful lot to sort the squad out.

All if’s and but’s at the moment and no one really knows anything, but one thing is certain in our current state we’re in trouble.

I just randomly happened to check the L2 table today for the first time in a while and was surprised to see you down there.

I felt like there was some optimism last season when Harris came in that he was the right man, given that you started to steady the ship (although too late) but it seems that hasn’t carried into this term.

What went wrong? I see there’s talk of a takeover, is Scally not funding the club adequately right now?

Scally has never funded the club, that’s not a criticism of him, he’s never actually had enough money to do. He has however taken a significant wage/bonus/fee, whatever you want to call it every year of his 27 years. Upwards of £200k normally, and sometimes his family members are on the payroll too. Again not a criticism if it was legitimate work they were doing.

We’re currently paying back an EFL covid loan (the terms of which were broken before last season leading to our embargo) at a rate of around £300k a season, a CCJ against the club back in the summer was around £250k, there’s a loan to an ex director for about £300k which may have been called in, and there’s a loan from a company called ‘Three Directors’ (although I think that one isn’t something to worry about). Take that amount out of our budget and we’re screwed as we’re run on a shoe-string anyway, it also leaves Scally with no opportunity for a wage/bonus/fee.

Neil Harris has always been a manager with a very cautious approach, and the spine of our team is ok defensively, but the individual errors that you can expect at this level leading to the opposition scoring can’t be rectified. We go one or two behind and we have literally no idea what to do. In short, we’re set up to be solid but there’s no attacking outlet.

I don’t blame Harris for that, I think our budget is pretty shit for this level and that’s why we are where we are. No strikers who have ever scored very many and very few creative players to create.

If the rumoured takeover doesn’t happen, and quickly, then we can say goodbye to the football league and, unfortunately, it’ll be a very long time before we come back again.

Ok, thanks for that. Fingers crossed you can get out of the shit, I wouldn’t wish relegation to the conference on anyone but it would be harsh as hell for you to get back to back relegations.

Good luck/I would expect you to be challenging for the Championship not in a relegation from the EFL battle. Is it down to bad ownership?

Everyone thinks that, truth is you would need to be one of the truly special basket cases to actually go out of business down there these days (although when you're 4-0 down at Oxford City you'll wonder if a blank slate might have been a better idea). You'll likely reach your nadir down there and it'll be a long rebuilding process after that, and when you come back your club will be in a much better shape (unless you're from North Wales, then you'll never return)

Not that I think Gills will go down, you've got a better defensive record than us. Sort out some scoring boots and you'll be safe
