Woking have every chance after a fine season, but I wouldn't be looking past a Notts v Chesterfield final personally. A tie that could absolutely go either way.

I don't begrudge Wrexham the money at all as they are a good sized club that have fallen on tough times in recent years. I'd much rather they be bankrolled than AFC Fylde, in which a chemical spillage would have more character.

What is a bit tedious is the underdog angle that's run in the media, they were one of the biggest clubs at that level anyway.

I always felt Eastleigh were quite a nice club personally. They had money pumped in at one point yes, but their fans were always sound with us. Stewart Donald, the owner who went to Sunderland, once bought every Town fan a pint in their bar. Not a huge deal but the kind of gesture you don't get hardly ever. They're a small club though, too small for L2 really and as well as they're doing now on a reduced budget if they came up they'd be going straight back down without pumping an unsustainable amount in you'd think.

I'd take any of the other top 7 up here except for Borehamfuckingwood, please god no. A crap soulless place to watch footy in, they'll take double digits to most away games and their football is so dire.

Woking get the highest attendances outside of the BELTs in that division and if you take enough fans there then you'll be watching a match in a full stadium. It's a long uncovered side terrace though for away fans (with a block or two covered seating if you need it) so not ideal for the colder winter months. I'd happily go back to Woking to watch Town, decent away day.

The chasing pack look too far gone and thank fuck for that as Bromley are a rotten little club and Solihull is an absolute bummer of an away day.

I'm basing this opinion on last season alone so I might well be speaking out of turn but I don't see Chesterfield not bottling it. I'd like them to come back up though, good localish away day for us.

Notts/Wrexham will be clear playoff favourites but picking yourself up after getting that many points and not going up won't be as easy as a lot would expect. I think the playoffs will be wide open again for anyone's taking really.

But then you're discouting somewhere like Crewe which is definitley Northern.

I would go along from the Welsh Border and just shave it to the top of Stoke-On Trent.

Chesterfield I would class as Northern and therefore I reckon Mansfield just makes it but they're in on a techincality.

The Peak District is in the North.

Stoke, Derby and Nottingham have a general Northern vibe but they're just too much on the way to the Midlands for me.

IF you've got one of those West Midlands accents you're out on your own as being one a Brummie/Black Country type and then if you're anywhere south of there you're a Southerner.

Anything north of the M25 is part of the north.

I think our record points and wins haul for the conference is going to be broken this season.

It's a nice thing to have but I'd trade it for survival in a heartbeat.

Stockport County.
South of Sheffield is the Midlands, Luton to south London is south below that is France
That's the Yorky in you because you want to disown Derbyshire and it's admittedly, undoubted midland-ness.

Over this side of the pennines it has to be a fair bit South of Sheffield to stay North. Cheshire is Northern and is 95% below Sheffield. Stockport is only just slightly north of Sheffield.

The Port Vale Stokie has it about right for me.

Where they all stay saying light like "loight" around East Midlands and Stoke etc, I will declare they aren't proper Northerners tbf. I can understand the line may have to be slightly higher over to the East.

Bentley sacked. Totally pointless now. We are already down.

Watford Gap, innit? There is also an asterisk next to all of East Anglia which is very much its own thing.
Nice try, but you're not getting away with disowning your weird seven toed cousins that easily. East Anglia most definitely belongs to the South.

if you were to get a new managers bounce it would make things interesting though
Can't see that happening. Jim McNulty as caretaker til season end. His last spell as caretaker before Bentley came in wasn't exactly great. We're down.

Nah, I work in Derby and they definitely don’t consider themselves Northern

Err no, you’re keeping them, along with the weird lot from Northampton upwards. I’d never heard anyone mispronounce ‘car’ before I accidentally lived there for a bit

Anything south of Market Harborough (Leicestershire) and Stamford (Lincolnshire - the glorious county of...) is just "the south" as far as I'm concerned. May seem harsh to bracket Peterborough and Northampton with Stevenage and MK, but they feel more like characterless commutervilles, thanks to badly planned and designed multiple urban extensions, than proper places now.

I thought the north/south divide was a line from the wash to the Severn. You have just got to look at teams in the North and South regional conference divisions.

Bishop’s Stortford who are based practically next to London Stanstead airport (the club car park has served as an overspill car park for the airport) have played in the Conference North.

That’s south of the Severn/Wash line, but north of the M25

I live just down the road from Harborough, and this is very much the Midlands. I think most people would agree that Northampton is the line between the south and the Midlands, but the line between the Midlands and the North is where the debate seems to be!

I was trying to work out how long it'd take for my local club (Kettering) to end up in the Conference South with various promotions/relegations/re-categorisations. Turns out it could be done within a couple of years with the right teams coming into the level.

I think the initial makeup of the Conference North/South being from clubs from one northern league (the Northern Premier) and two southern leagues (the Southern League and the Isthmian) meant that the second tier non-league is quite weighted toward the south.

Over the years such northern heavyweights such as the previously mentioned Bishop’s Stortford and Oxford City have spent time in the north. Currently notorious whippet loving, cobbled street having clubs Banbury United and Gloucester City are in the Conference North. And looking at the current relegation picture in the Conference some Conference South clubs or even Bishop’s Stortford who are the Isthmian promotion picture could be playing in a regional league with Darlington next season

Yeah it could easily be a 4 of Maidstone, Dorking, Torquay and Yeovil going down this season which would skew it even more - maybe St Albans switching to the North?

I think Chelmsford could switch, if anything to get out of the Conference South. They’ve been there since 2008, so they’re desperate for new surroundings.

Be a lot of long distance trips potentially but guess St Albans are the most northern NLS team ?
