I watched one of the worst football displays by 2 teams tonight I've seen in years! and I've seen a fair few just this season, pitch was a state but no team could string a couple of decent passes tonight, ref was a shambles again. Can't believe we rested players for the tinpot cup. Full strength team would of won that game tonight. Bet Ashton/Jennings will get banned for Chester too 10 yellows

As I said before, Barnet are well and truly favourites, with Macc and Grimsby still in the mix of course. Season starts now really.

How does that work? You've got your noses in front and are in great form. If anyone are the favourites it is Bristol. Yours to lose imo.

It's been theirs to lose for a good while now. Not that it's a good thing, but I was laughed off of here as a pessimist and bad supporter when I said that this would happen 6 weeks ago. Look where we are now...

Well winning a banana skin game that we are notorios for losing is always good. Disappointing to not score more when it sounded like we dominated, 3pts is nice but the goal differences are creeping up and they could easily have a say in what happens at the end of the season.

I'm not as doom and gloom about us as other Gasheads on here seem to be. The football hasn't been great in the last two home games but both Alty and Braintree set up with almost every man behind the ball and that was always going to make it difficult. Braintree were very awkward to play against, they knew how to get decisions off the referee to slow the game down and they defended well for the most part. The fact we still found a winner with a well worked move despite not being in full flow is 100% a positive thing.

To be fair Braintree also looked lively going forward in the first half. As mentioned, Akinola looked a handful (and pulled off a magnificent piece of skill to control a ball that was going over his shoulder about 5 foot in the air) and the equaliser was very good. Having said that, they weren't a class above or any of that nonsense; we were committing men forward from the first minute and that left us light at the back on occasions, which is why they looked menacing on the counter.

It's easy to forget we're doing all this without our player of the season so far in Stuart Sinclair and without our much heralded new signing Jermaine Easter. When both of these players return in the next week or so we will be even stronger than we are now and that will stand us in good stead.

Get in Gas!

Now on to Saturday. Can't wait even if my alarm will be set for 5:30am. Can we push towards 1,000 fans for the 550 mile round trip or however far it is gasheads?

3 losses in a row for the mighty County and the slim playoff hopes gone. Time for our manager to throw in the towel and for us to appoint Watson as his replacement.

Thing that pleased me most about last night was that every one of them were clearly up for it, despite the freezing weather and lack of atmosphere.
Also Jolley and Mackreth on the wings skinned their markers time after time which was great to see, sadly their crosses each time after were awful.
The only chance Telford had all night was when McKeown booted a clearance straight to their attacker but thankfully he went too wide and scuffed his shot.

You were and still are a pessimist.
Another three games before I throw in the towel. If we can match Bristol Rovers results over the next 3 then we are back in the race. I've maintained since before the season started that our second half of the season fixtures where tougher than the first half and that has proven to be true. I'm not surprised that the gap has been closed, but after the Eastleigh game we effectively play the bottom 4 clubs in the division and I still think we have enough to take those teams apart.
Hopefully we can have the rearranged Halifax game on a Thursday in April when they are completely knackered.

Well that's not really true, is it?
You were criticised for being rather negative, even if you did have a valid point.

Although I have felt for some time that we will struggle to reach 90 points, the last couple of games has given me some reason to be optimistic that Rovers will drop enough points to keep us in touch.

We won the reverse fixtures against each of our next seven opponents and although our recent form, performances and losing top spot are obviously terribly disappointing, it's still in our own hands and with a decent run in these games, we could find ourselves back on top.

Gateshead winning last night was perfect because they are a decent side and have a chance to put themselves right in the play off mix if they can end Bristol Rovers long unbeaten run. And Rovers now have a new pressure added as they lead the way for the first time.

It's certainly a shame that Braintree couldn't hold on but it's not all complete doom and gloom.

Really? I honestly thought they were much better than us in the 1st half. We couldn't string a pass together while they were walking rings round us at times.

Also, who assisted Taylor for the penalty? That pass would grace the premier league, it was superb.

I actually think it was Mark McChrystal.

Yes.

I suspect that defeat for Telford has done for them now. I initially thought that when they appointed Steve Kittrick they would be ok, especially after seeing them when they played us. They were certainly the best of a very bad bunch at the bottom, but it now seems the new manager syndrome has worn off and they are back to their old ways. One down, three to go.

Yes. I agree. A win for us on Saturday will all but confirm it. However our record at New Bucks Head is atrocious on 9 previous visits. We have won 0 drawn 2 and lost 7. Scoring just once. Telford are our bogey side.

How has it be ours to lose for a while? Technically it's not ours to lose even now as if you win all your games then we can't win it!

You were a pessimist, just because you've blown it the past few weeks mate. I hope you have good money on us to win the league if you were that confident as you would have got bloody good odds 6 weeks ago.

It's very much in the balance and although I'd say Rovers were now slight favourites (I suspect the bookies now have it that way), there are still plenty more twists and turns to come.

We mustn't discount Macclesfield and perhaps even Grimsby from the title race either. It's definitely not a two horse race between Barnet and Bristol.

As we've shown over the past six games, form can change very quickly and having scraped successive home victories against lowly sides, it could take just one defeat to derail Bristol Rovers' challenge (fingers crossed!)....

It could, that one defeat could really affect us. However, we are flying and have key players to come back into the fold. I just hope we haven't hit the top too quick.

Yes, I didn't mean you blown the league, I just meant you had a massive lead and you've messed that up. Still a long way to go granted.

Maybe I was pessimistic but I was still correct. After years of supporting Barnet you realise just how predictable we are.cwe'll probably go and beat Altincham and people will get all excited again. Then we'll do something like draw at Eastleigh and lose to Halifax at home, and we'll be out of it again.

Rovers will win the title - strength in depth, favourable run in, currently massively in form and playing a much better brand of football.

Blimey! Fair play to him. Great control by Taylor to bring it down too.

The league is still in Barnet's hands obviously, but this is at least a 3 way fight.

Yes. We drop points away to big teams, you don't. It's favourable to you.

A favourable run in for us would be one where we play Aldershot every week. Unfortunately,we still have Halifax twice and go away to Eastleigh and Kiddy

Oi, I'll have you know we've learnt to win football matches again now The Football Genius has gone. And we were worth a point in both games over Xmas so you can't be that good as we were utter shite in both games.
