I don't understand what you mean. They would use the other victims testimony to build a stronger case is the first place. Many victims would never come forward otherwise.

The media's job in a situation like this is not to be useful idiots helping out the police to the best of their abilities. It's to weigh the public interest (and not curiousity) against the consequences for the family of the suspected. In this case, it's atrocious to publish the name within 24 hours.

Most things are published to receive clicks and ultimately receive more ad-money. It's not complicated, but rather a natural adaption to the internet. But a line has to be drawn when it comes to integrity and ethics, and that line is almost completely erased in the british press.

It's problematic in more ways than one, but a lack of respect for victims and suspected criminals eventually leads to a lack of credibility, in the same way extreme bias does. And at the end of the day, your credibility is everything, both as a reporter and as a newspaper as a whole.

Probably should be taken it with a pinch of salt, but I read this morning in the paper that the girl was showing off about it on social media to her friends and her dad saw it. He then called the police. Whether this is true is another matter.
