The word 'fairytale' has been used a lot this week, and it surely felt like one after the euphoria of Wembley on Monday. Over the last 14 years there were many times when it didn't, though, and as I walked away from Wembley my thoughts went back to walking to Leyton (not Orient, but the Waltham team who folded in '11) for an Isthmian game in '07 in the pissing rain, only to find it abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch. It didn't feel much like a fucking fairytale then. Well, maybe Cinderella would come close; enslaved for years while the evil Stepmother robs everything, before being set free to marry her prince (but she was only 15 when she got married, was she from Bury?) I find it very easy to ignore the scum, but now that we're in the same division (I know some fans are dreading them coming to Kingsmeadow, but I'm looking forward to letting all the hate out), I've been thinking about them more.
I know some MK Dons fans are on this forum, so;
-Why are you still called MK 'Dons'? Does that word now feel like a weight around your neck, dragging you down? I struggle to imagine any original WFC fans getting the 9.15 train on a Saturday morning from Wimbledon Station to Milton Keynes to watch you nowadays, so why still use it? I imagine it must divide your fanbase more as time goes by.
-Do you still think you are a continuation of Wimbledon Football Club? Do you embrace Wimbledon Football Club's history or is it something you feel dissociated from?
I've always felt the relocation was like transplanting an adults head onto a child's body - hideous & doomed to horrible failure. What do fans of other club's think? Don't give a shit? Mildly entertaining circus sideshow? Sitting there with the popcorn ready? Maybe the last 14 years have been like a fairytale after all - Sleeping Beauty awakening in League 1 ready to rip the living shit of the c*** that put her there. After all, fairytales can be pretty fucking gruesome.
