What can be considered left and right has gotten rather mixed up lately. Take Brexit, many economic conservatives became risk takers happy to role the dice, and many normally more radical thinkers became defenders of the status quo worried about the economy. Who knows what Labour stand for currently. UKIP are tying to lerch from further right than the Torys into "working class" Labour territory. The Torys trying to figure out what May stands for compared with Cameron and the right wing of the party are seemingly taking on more control. The SNP spout fairly lefty rhetoric whilst working to centre right policies. And fuck knows what the Lib Dems are about, apart from crying over Brexit. It's all pretty jumbled up.

I tend to be socially quite liberal yet economically fairly conservative, which would pigeon hole me around the centre. Down here you tend to be either Tory or LibDem, and I'm sad to see the demise of the Lib Dems, but Tim Farron does absolutely nothing for me. But how far to the right will the Tory's go over the coming years? Not sure where I fit.

I always find it difficult to complete the political compass questionnaire because I don't feel that multiple choice questions can accurately capture many of the thoughts that I am having. I also feel that a number of the questions aren't really important.

How I see the country and the world

I don't feel bothered by immigration, yet I've no interest in seeing the world. The only time I feel like much of a nationalist is during the World Cup or Euros. I don't like military intervention because it has a potential to create a legacy of bitterness and hate, especially if it comes in a state building package. I do think that Trident is necessary for maintaining the balance of power.

Attitudes towards the economy

I am a mixture of right and left. On the one hand, I think that low taxation is good because I prefer to keep what I earn. On the other hand, I don't think that the state should skimp too greatly on public services. I think aspiration is important, but I believe that the super-rich are out-of-touch and should do more to serve the community.

One thing I do feel strongly about is the decline of trade unionism which has had disastrous consequences for British workers. If I was to write the Labour manifesto, I would make the reform of working practices a central aim of the party's vision. I feel that companies should co-operate rather than compete, as this would be better for everyone.

In the Brexit vote, I voted remain as the leavers had no plan for what came next. In the grand scheme of things, I don't mind in principle if the economy is protected or not and think that it should be whichever is more useful. During the Brexit vote, we had no way of knowing if the other road would be better.

Personal social values

I think there should be rules which we follow so that we can live in harmony. I don't think that disciplining someone in the workplace for having a crazy hairdo, not wearing heels or having a tattoo is necessary. If a woman is pregnant, it's not anyone else's choice but her own (and partner) whether she wishes to abort. I think that the harm principle is the best way to live. "Is your behaviour harming others?" No, then continue to live as you wish.

Wider society

The artist and the manufacturer should enjoy the same status. While some will never be rehabilitated, the death penalty is unnecessary. A person shouldn't command respect on the merits of age, occupation or other. Respect should be earned.

Religion

Feel free to practice if you wish, but don't impose your values on others.

Sex

Do as you please, as long as it's consensual and does not harm others.

Yes, that's right. I've done it last month just to see if this "compass" is at least a bit correct to my political standing (I've done of course the german version). Some questions were not exactly enough ,some ridiculous but in the end I was astonished to see that I reflects more or less correct my standing (voting for the German Social Democrats (SPD) since my 18th birthday with liberal tendencies (justice, interior politics) and green ones (environmental))

Me, too. That's the only time. That doesn't mean that I don't like my country, on the contrary, I've seen many countries and worked in 2 EU countries for 5 years but I was always happy when I could come home again.

Fair enough on the anonymous voting, although in this day and age I struggle to understand why some people, and not just in the UK but all across Europe and the rest of the democratic world, want to keep their political beliefs private. We're not living in North Korea or third world South African state for god's sake.

As for you being a centrist, don't make me laugh mate. You're a UKIP supporter therefore a right winger.
