Early season Rooney (no training and on the lash) combined with Rooney as the only striking option at in the squad is impressive to watch. Could scarcely be worse

I've long had a theory that Rooneys downward curve would match Fat Ronaldo, and he's be done by 32. I'm not convinced I'm wrong.

I was going to say that!

Unclear what his qualities are. He can't seem to do anything at all.
Is 'play better than Rooney' still an admirable quality?! Or just standard?

I did enjoy that little lay-off by Rooney just now. An adroit, subtle little touch to the feet of a Villa player.

'The defender makes gat too tight for Rooney' is apparently code for the defending giving up but Rooney just letting the ball hit his head and bobble out of play

Hardly a scintillating performance from United. Villa weren't up to much themselves though and hardly created anything to worry us - that was partly down to our defending (which was good again) and partly down to Villa just being poor going forward tonight.

Rooney was truly abysmal though and Depay wasn't much better. You can see why Van Gaal wants to bolster our attacking midfield options - our build up play is so slow and ponderous at the moment.

Six points from six, though, that'll do pig.

Perhaps I'm biased, but we should never have lost that game, we were the superior side in the second half, bar a few breaks from United. We need more up front I think, as mentioned earlier, Ayew looks wank, and Gabby has been shit for years now.

Rooney is the biggest and most overrated donkey in the league, even Conference players can control the football on a consistent basis throughout the match. Van Gaal is the type to not tolerate this level of complete shitness, I think he could drop him and make Schweinsteiger his captain, he showed his class when he came on

Amavi for Villa looks like an excellent player.
I agree. He looked the best player on the pitch tonight.

Another shite game but 6/6 will do nicely.

I swear we would have played 5x times better than we have so far and wouldnt have picked up 6/6.

Newcastle next in the League. Yet another team we have an brilliant record against. 3 old favorites to start this season. Then our first test at Swansea

Pretty even game. I think Wayne Rooney is past it though now. Dreadful performance by someone who rakes in 300k per week

Worst game i've watched for a year.

United got the goal then just passed, passed, passed the ball to death going nowhere. Villa had nothing and I don't understand their gameplan, they hardly did anything in the whole game.

We were poor but the result was never in doubt, did Villa even have a shot on target? I'll be surprised if they aren't involved in another relegation battle this season.

Great to see Januzaj get the goal. Hopefully he keeps himself in the side and really pushes on this year.

I really like the look of this Villa team. Although they didn't test the keeper much, they looked a lot more fluid than they did when I saw them last year. Can see them doing well when they 'click'.

Although we were in control for most of the game, it was yet another ugly performance in attacking terms and Rooney was a big cause of that. I can see why LVG persisted with a second striker rather than an advanced playmaker in pre season as he just doesn't move around like a CF and he's had the first touch of a drugged guerilla.

6/6 points, can't complain.

Easily the worst I've seen Rooney play.

He contributed absolutely nothing. Hopefully this will force Van Gaal's hand in buying another striker to give him proper competition. The game itself was poor. We controlled it, but in the final third lacked quality. A big positive was the defence. They all played well again.

Yep, I'm really liking the look of our back 4 at the minute, especially with Schneiderlin infront of them. We could probably do with an upgrade on Blind, but he hasn't put a foot wrong in either game and was arguably our best player tonight, and LVG obviously trusts him alot.

I agree, he's surprised me in defence. He's looked very comfortable so far. Smalling has been fantastic. He's become such a good defender over the past season or two. Darmian was a steal at £12.7m.

So I was right when I said signing a striker should be far more of a priority than a centre back and that Blind and Smalling could be ok.

Lets not get too carried away with Rooney it wouldnt be the first time he has looked utter dogshit before suddenly looking a whole different player a few games later. But it is clear his new contract was another Moyes fuck up.

He has always been a splurter what worries me are his splurts are getting shorter and his bad performances are getting worse.

Its clear that we need at least one attacking player with have to guarentee top 4 and I think we will get Pedro despite the city interest. That will be enough to see off Liverpool.and Spurs.

To win the league we need another striker though. Unless Wilson suddenly fulfills Dessys hype Rooney and Hernandez just isnt gonna win us enough games.

I honestly dont know why we arent in for Bearinho. He fits the bill perfectly. Quick and a good finisher. Could play up top or out wide and wouldnt mind the odd game on the bench.

Also not quite sure why thespus is giving hinself a reacharound over Schweinsteiger.
