We'll probably start the season fairly slowly this time around before the new signings like Vossen and Chris Long settle in properly. We don't usually do well at Leeds or Ipswich who we face in the first 5 games while Birmingham have a an excellent recent record at Turf Moor. Given that 3 of our first 5 are away, I'd be satisfied with 8/9 points.

But it would be brilliant if we could match the results we achieved last time we faced the same opponents.

Leeds 1 Burnley 2 (Sep 2013)
Burnley 3 Birmingham 0 (Sep 2013)
Ipswich 0 Burnley 1 (Nov 2013)
Burnley 2 Brentford 2 (Oct 1999)
Bristol C 3 Burnley 4 (Oct 2012)

Like MagpieBee said above about under-estimating Brentford - that's what happened 2 years ago when Burnley finished 2nd. People kept saying "Burnley's bubble will burst soon", but it never did.

I'm sure Dyche will play "the underdog" tag very well.

Just because fans underestimate a teams' chances, doesn't mean that the clubs will - and that's where it matters.

It's the main reason I think Brentford will do worse next season. They were underestimated for a long part of last season. This year clubs will know from their playoff position last year how good they are and will not underestimate them at all.

Also just the fact it's the Championship and anyone can beat anyone. So no prediction can be too inaccurate really.

I agree, I think teams will be less likely to underestimate Brentford this season than last. And so far in this thread more people have predicted defeats against Brentford than wins...

Bolton (A) - Don't see us getting off to a good start, even with their injury problems. 1-0 loss.
Charlton (H) - Full house no doubt. Pride Park rocking. 3-1 win.
Middlesbrough (H) - Boro like beating us. At least Bamford can't get the winner this time. 1-0 loss.
Birmingham (A) - Dull. 0-0 draw.
Leeds (H) - Uwe Rosler was an absolute expert in beating us whilst at Wigan. That'll probably continue. 1-0 loss.

4/15. Probably a bit too pessimistic, but I'm sure we're going to have a slow start before picking up

....and to jump on the England goalkeeper bandwagon, our own Frankie Fielding was also called up the full squad, so shows the irrelevance of that!

In terms of results, I'm expecting a couple of additions thus week to bolster our squad and remain positive (feel free to laugh):

Sheffield Wednesday away - WIN - hoping our settled side will benefit from the new regime at Wed, who I think will struggle

Luton Town (cup) - WIN - scrape through

Brentford home - DRAW - big day, big hope, Lord Mayors show type game

Leeds United home - WIN - rise to the occasion under the lights (assuming new poles stay upright)

Middlesbrough away - LOSE - tough place to go

Burnley home - DRAW - good result against a tea, I think will be there or thereabouts.

So 8 points from opening 5. Could be a bit of heart over head, but I do rate our boys.

Whoever wins the Derby v Boro game will be top after 5 games.

A draw will probably allow someone else be top.

But it's a marathon not a sprint........two years ago QPR had 26 points from the first 10 matches but finished FOURTH.

Burnley (H) - Probably be a tight game but got a feeling the crowd will get us a tight win (3)
Reading (A) - Think we'll nick a draw down there (1)
Bristol City (A) - Surely our winning run against these lot have to come to an end at some point? Or not. (3)
Sheffield Wednesday (H) - A typical derby draw. (1)
Derby (A) - Nah you're alright. (0)

That would represent a really good start so it's unlikely but this will probably be my most optimistic 'monthly' post of the season...gotta have faith at the start

Wolves (H) - 2-1 loss, play well but Wolves too strong. Rhodes with a goodbye goal.
Shrewsbury (H - Cup) - 1-0 loss, we don't do the League Cup.
Huddersfield (A) - 2-0 win, Chris Brown steps up to score twice.
Cardiff (H) - 0-0 draw, dull game.
Brighton (A) - 1-0 loss, another dull game, but a Hanley own goal is the difference.
Bolton (H) - 1-1 draw, two goals in the last 15 minutes.

5/15 points to start off the season. Above average for the season as we'll finish with 39 points.

Might as well put money on Rhodes now, he's not leaving us.

Blackburn (a) WIN - We look strong in the middle and up front. Blackburn have a few players missing. We won't keep a clean sheet though.

Newport (cup (h) LOSE - It's what we do.

Hull (h) WIN - I sense Hull will do a Wolves and a Fulham and struggle the first few weeks.

QPR (h) DRAW

Cardiff (a) WIN - Although Cardiff looked strong against Bournemouth, I still think we'll edge it.

Charlton (h) WIN - I can see Charlton struggling this season.

5 League games: 13 points. I'm never normally this optimistic but I do feel this team is good. If the McDonald contract situation gets resolved I can even see us beating Newport County.
On the other hand, we really haven't replaced Sako and it's difficult to tell how we might react. It could be us down at the bottom struggling in a month's time.

Nothing at all against Bristol City...their fans are livening up this forum more than anyone else.... but I can really see the possibility of them having no points at the end of August.
Making these kinds of statements always tends to come back and bite you in the arse, but their opening fixtures are extremely tough.

They are very tough, I think only Charlton have got it harder.

There's a nice visualisation of fixture difficulty here: http://experimental361.com/2015/08/01/visualising-the-201516-fixtures-updated/
Looks like MK Dons and Forest have the kindest start overall, with Derby and QPR having the easiest among the favourites.

I think ours is one of the worst along with Charlton, we have 3 of the same fixtures. Just change Bristol City and Derby for Cardiff and Blackburn away on our half.

I'm absolutely not replying to this until we know the goal-scorers and attendances of those games.

Weirdo.

To be fair I'm sure Brentford will be eager to recitfy those mistakes they made in October 1999 that lead them to a 2-2 draw with Burnley...

You can get 20/1 with SkyBet on us to lose our opening 3 games. Get on it, I have.

I hate betting against my own team. It always feels a loathsome thing to do. But then it's a sense of "silver lining" when the shit all hits the fan.

fwiw, I'm not saying you lot are a bad side....far from it....but that's a really tough start. I can see you drawing with Brentford and possibly edging it over Leeds, but I'm just saying it wouldn't surprise me if you were on zero after a month. Having said that, we also have a tough start and could be within a few places of you too! :bl:

Honestly doesn't bother me. Might as well benefit in someway if we're shite. Likewise I'll bet on us if I think we'll do well.

On first look at our August, it's horrific.

Maybe I'm just trying to convince myself but looking at it now, the first two games of the season might be the best time to play QPR and Derby, before they've had any time to get into their stride and going by comments from the Wolves fans on here, their confidence has dwindled.

If we can get through August with 5 points, I'll be pleased with September looking a lot more favourable.

For what it's worth, I think we'll actually beat QPR on the first day.
