Ridiculous.

How some of those boring bowl stadiums are so high and characteristic grounds like Hillsborough and Portman Road are so low is beyond me.

It was compiled by a blind mute at a guess, who likes to touch shiny new things, weird c***

New York Stadium above grounds with proud history, such as Elland Road, Hillsborough, Portman Road etc is beyond me.

Liked Brighton's ground - went the season it opened, had more of a feel to it than a typical modern-day bowl.

Also - Molineux. Beautiful stadium - as good a modern football stadium as you'll get in that league, great facilities, 4 sided, great atmosphere, large capacity, was really impressed by it last season.

And Brentford right down the bottom - not the nicest looking ground, but a fantastic away end, and the 4 pubs on every corner is a great touch.

If you bother to read the article, it's a study put together by a DIY and trade site and therefore as you'd expect, it's biased towards the quality or "state" of the stadium. Thus, how many pubs it has on the corner, or how many paint-starved blue poles it has holding crumbling steel mesh up is fairly irrelevant.

Exactly, which stadium you consider to be the best depends on which factors you consider to the most important.

“Inside it’s very similar as well. Facilities and toilets are very good, as are the disabled areas and the leg room is more than ample."
That quote is about the Riverside; those things probably aren't the highest priority for people on here.

From my experiences of the championship grounds I've been. Not been Brighton or Cardiff new ones and never been Charlton.

As a spectator, give me new stadiums over old, any day of the week.

Hillsborough is old and run down. The away stand has huge pillars blocking the views and the concourse is an absolute disaster waiting to happen.
Portman Road, read above and the seating (standing in some of the recent games) is beyond poor.
City Ground - see both above
Elland Road - see Hillborough

Don't get me wrong, I like the old terracing grounds, such as Griffin Park and London Road when this was a Championship fixture, but old stadiums simply aren't as comfortable to sit / stand than the new stadiums.

Atmosphere can be made in any stadium, as all stadiums in the list are all seater bar Brentford, so that isn't a factor.

All in my opinion, like.

Fulham not in the top 10?...I need not read the article.

Fulham is probably my favourite in this league, closely followed by Forest. Making up my own personal too 5 would be definitely Millwall, Blackburn, Ipswich.

Out of the 'new' grounds, I liked Cardiff the other week, decent atmosphere and still feels a little 'edgey'.

I absolutely concur that fans coming to our ground would think its a shithole, it is in the main, but I love it.

Would probably rate ours around 8th to 12th , it's modern so it hasn't got that traditional feel to it, and some of the facilities aren't the best. However, it can still generate a good atmosphere if we try and all views are good, not one bad spot i feel. The amount of seats also plays well with the amount of fans that come - We don't sell out but we have done so a couple of times this season and a further 5/6 have got about 30k + coming in.

But we're not Middlesbrough with a half empty stadium whilst challenging for automatic promotion. That's the main thing. ;)

To be fair 8th is about right for The Valley.

Modern yet nothing like those identikit stadiums, heaped in history too.

New age football fans, the types that would bemoan the old style terracing and lack of prawn sarnies.

Ours should be top.

There's no stadium in the world where you can grab a Greggs steak bake, do a chest and tri session in the gym and then finish it off with a Starbucks Strawberry and Cream Frappachino without leaving the complex.

My favourite ones:

Leeds
Sheffield Wednesday
Wolves
Nottingham Forest
Charlton
Norwich
Ipswich
Blackburn
Watford
Brentford

After that, the rest of the stadia look like wastelands that haven't seen a lick of paint since the 1960's, or soulless plastic bowl style stadiums.

Not a fan of the modern stadia, but I don't mind The Amex at all to be honest.

The Valley, City Ground, and Molineux would be my favourites.

How the hell is Dean Court so high?

Don't understand all this fawning over the City Ground.
It's diabolical for away fans.

Yes, and Molineux Is probably much worse than Forest in that aspect, but doesn't stop them being impressive/interesting/good looking grounds, IMHO.

What's impressive about a shitty old main stand?

Brentford - shame Coventry are unlikely to ever play there again.

In no real order my favourite five.

Although I could drop Leeds off the list due to their outrageous pricing resulting in poor followings to Elland Road.

One of the four pubs closed down the other week unfortunately. Our new claim to fame: 'The only club with a pub on three corners!' doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

It's hardly much different to your place, when you used to get the whole lower Bridgeford it was quality.

Is having history actually relevant to being a good stadium?

Depends on what you want, I don't like going to stadiums that are all the blooming same, you can go to Derby, Leicester, Southampton and barring the colours they're all the same and sterile as hell, give me the older stand at Portman Road than the King Power corner etc.
