Best Game Series Ever Countdown

Well I said I think we should do it, and we've had ample break from the 100 games thread, so get thinking and sending me lists!

We can discuss what people think the rules should be before anyone starts sending lists to save any confusion. My rules personally:

1) A 'series' must consist of at least 2 games
2) All genres are included within a series i.e. Crash Team Racing or Mario Kart can be included in the Crash Bandicoot/ Mario series.
3) For universal characters i.e. Batman, specify which games you mean to include. As despite it being the same character, I wouldnt class the Arkham games in the same 'series' as the Batman games I grew up playing on the Spectrum.

Thats about it really, anybody wants to add or adjust anything, say so and we can work something out. Also taking votes first on whether everyone gets 10 or 20 nominations.

YES TO THIS THREAD! Always wanted to see this on here.

20 nominations, 10 always seems like too few. But yeah, categorizing them is always going to be difficult. I guess the way to deal with that is just to say that we leave it down to your interpretation of what you consider a series, and just roll with that.

I think you can easily do 20 with this. There are so many game series to choose from that it shouldn't be too hard to pick 20.

Yeah, I thought 20 was too many at first, but when Ive started thinking about my own nominations, if Im including ones with 2 in a series, I could easily pick 20.

Also think there should be distinction between series and franchise. Mario Kart is a completely different game from something like Paper Mario and they don't necessarily share the same fanbase. I understand if it's more practical to run it that way though.

I agree with Jockney on the Mario thing.

I'd personally divide it into:

Mario (platformers)
Mario Kart
Mario Party
Mario Sports
Paper Mario

I'm sure there are others...

To be fair, bar Sonic and Mario, is there any other franchise that has gone on so long and been so varied in terms of genre?

I did wonder about them myself, so fair enough if people want to split them up

Had my first list, so Im guessing nobody has any more issues over the rules? Scoring will be the same as usual, 20 points for your number 1, 1 point for your 20. Ill set a deadline of June 14th at midnight. Im going to New York the week before that so rather than rush everyone into making their selections and throwing it all together before I go, it gives everybody plenty of time to have a think about it!

Here is one for the discussion.

THQ did a series of wrestling games in 1998-2001....WCW/NWO revenge, WrestleMania 2000, WWE No Mercy......all were as such a series, but not classed as a series

would it count?

With sports games, I think that should count. It would be like not including FIFA World Cup or Street games alongside FIFA 15. They're the same gist of game by the same developers as far as I can see.

This is actually really hard, got to think of the series as a whole and not the individual game you liked.
A good example for me is Jak and Daxter, I loved the 1st one but never enjoyed the other 2 so it can't go on my list.
