Nah it's obvious when you think about it for a sec.

My problem is that I can't remember what's already been

Regardless, it had better be MGS. But now I seem to remember gushing about it recently in here and it was probably in this thread. God damn it.

Final Fantasy?

Its on the 3DS and is made by Level-5 (The devs of Ni No Kuni)

Interesting...

Those guys obviously took a lot of influence from Pokemon when making NNK. However, it's still a hell of a thing to say it'll be anywhere close to as big as Pokemon... it's rare that a proper Japanese thing really does break through to a western audience. You get all these games with Japanese sounding titles, only the truly special ones like Ni No Kuni manage to break it through (and even then, I'll bet that nowhere near as many people played NNK as they should have done because loads of people would have been put off by the very Japanese bullshitty name).

And finally, unsurprisingly topping the list, and coming top in 3 of the 7 lists it made it onto, with 99 points is...
1st: Final Fantasy (7 lists)
2452581-ffx-2_battle2.jpg

Games in series to date: 19 (1987-2013)
Genre: RPG, MMORPG
Platforms: 11 (NES, MSX, Famicom, SNES, Playstation, PC, Playstation 2, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Nintendo DS, Playstation Portable)
Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy II, Final Fantasy III, Final Fantasy IV, Final Fantasy V, Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy IX, Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy X-2, Final Fantasy XI Online, Final Fantasy XII, Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIV Online, Final Fantasy Type-0, Final Fantasy XIII-2, Lightening Returns: Final Fantasy XIII

No real surprises with the number one slot, as its the epic series that has pretty much defined and popularised the RPG genre for over 20 years. It was probably the success of VII on the Playstation that brought so many to the series, and it is still huge today, being one of the biggest selling franchises of all time. The storylines are generally different between each game in the series (barring a few that have since been given direct sequels) but all have in common great storylines, great characters and memorable bosses. A pretty expected, but worthy winner of this list!

Yup, top of mine unsurprisingly. FFVI-FFX being the pinnacle of the series although IV and XII are over-rated. Given how disappointing FFXIII was, it'll be interesting to see how FFXV fares. And, of course, I can't wait for the FFVII remake.
