Hopefully, we could all see the lift we got from him last season, if we can get him, Matthews and then one or two other first team improvements then we could be looking at a good season.

Without wanting to reinitaite the whole Barnsley/Bristol City weird slang off match, we've been linked with Fletcher this week, and Sky have reported it today I've just read.

Kept it out of the transfer thread before it turns into the Bristol City thread again, but I know Craig really rates Fletcher, and as a 20 year old that's getting offered a new deal at United, he must have something about him.

Supposedly a lot of competition with Wolves and Leeds interested, would be delighted if we pulled this off.

Fletcher is different gravy. Will be a quality signing for any club at this level.

Same as with Brownhill though in that he isn't a Barnsley player so unsure why you think we'd be overly concerned about your interest in him.

Not you particularly mate, just Barnsley fans on social media who are hopeful (understandably) that you're back in for him, like we are Tomlin.

Would be delighted with this, wouldn't be surprised if he ended up back at your place though; you're bound to be interested.

From what I understand we are interested but we've been priced out of the chase. Man Utd will want a fee, around £1million I'd wager, and Fletcher wants around £7k basic. He'd be worth every penny I believe but even so I could be wrong as he's never played a game higher than League 1 and it could be a gamble. I don't think our board would be willing to take that risk which is why we've gone with the much cheaper Elliot Lee.

Apparently he's spoken to loads of clubs, but it does appear to be between us and Leeds for him now. I'd be absolutely delighted if we signed him, rate him highly.

Looking at his Wiki page, he's from West Yorkshire (Keighley) so Leeds would surely be in a strong position to get him as they're near home.

Tomlin's back in England this weekend; I reckon it'll be announced over the next seven days.

This Canos link excites me, a seriously good player!
Him and JK up top for me is very exciting as I was massively impressed with him at Brentford last season.

really not bothered whether he comes or not, more than a tad overated.
A tad harsh fella, he is a very good player. All that said, I support Bristol City and not Lee Tomlin. The club come first so if it's too expensive we shouldn't do it. Plenty of other options.

I find it a bit odd sometimes how anti-Lansdown you guys can be. You should be grateful he's throwing any money at the club at all, and also grateful that he seems to be trying to do it in a responsible way. In some ways very very similar to Matthew Benham and us.

You can't be annoyed that he's decided against throwing £30k a week at someone, that kind of wage is ridiculous in this division and not sustainable.

I understand the frustrations you had last year, but you shouldn't go making ridiculous financial decisions off the back of that, and you should be applauding Lansdown for continuing to run the club in a responsible way. As other posters have said, after you went down last time you were fucked, the only reason you are back here is because of him.

Finally, throwing money at a guy who would be a big risk (if he flops, given his previous behavioural issues, who would take him off your hands and be able to afford his wages?) isn't the way to get into the PL. Clubs like us have to be smarter than just spending money we don't have. That won't get us past the Newcastles or Derbys, and will just ruin your club again.

The main issue with Lansdown was that Gray & Maguire deals were messed up

also Brentford are financially higher than City due to recent success in the market

Lansdown wasn't responsible for Gray and Maguire it was Pelling, its why he lost his job. No real issues with lansdown for me as I appreciate how much worse it could be when you look at other clubs chairmen/owners etc.

That beggars the question why is it potentially happening again then? Is Ashton playing the same game?

It seems to me that it a game of chicken and they feared Tomlin would actually sign.

This has been going on for a while and Johnson even had a dig at Tomlin without naming him in the local rag.

He's supposed to be off the London for meetings now. Fulham? They are still getting parachute money aren't they and CAN afford him?
On to the next target, Dack or Roofe maybe?
We need to get Korey signed up as well!

Not buying it. Anyway, you pull out Derby as an example - why can't we compete with them? They aren't receiving parachute payment, and Mel Morris only holds half of Lansdown's wealth.

My problem with Lansdown is the Premier League game he talks every season, but then when it comes to handing out the wages he's losing out to smaller clubs down the bottom end, and there's no need for it. I understand he doesn't want to get us into a position like last time we were up here, but he's all mouth and no trousers currently - if you're going to sell a promise, you have to back up your words and deliver financially, because people are buying ST's because of his words.

I'm not unrealistic, I would have been content just to stay up this season, but that's not the 'clubs ambition' supposedly, or so we're told. Basically, Lansdown needs to put his money where his mouth with, or just come out and say 'look, it's not going to be sustainable for us to compete with these big clubs for a few years, the top six is unambitious, but it's an end we're working towards, and a project that will be carried out over a years, and we hope you'll recognise the steady progression and steps towards that the club are making' because that would be absolutely fine with me.

We offered Tomlin a deal he was happy to sign, and then thought we would fuck him over by offering less and getting away with it. They take the fucking piss and that's why Lansdown, deservedly, gets stick.
