If we end up looking back on it as a better summer than 2014, selling Baldock and using the money to buy 7 key players in a title-winning team, then it'll have been one hell of a season!
I think it's been a better summer than 2014, though very much doubt we will win the title (I can dream!).
We have broken our record profit from a sale twice, and have brought in a player who was instrumental towards our survival, signed a CB from Juve who will end up at a Premier League side. Signed a GK from Bayern who LJ is convinced will be playing Europa League football in a few years. Signed the current England u19 captain and have strengthened the squad all over the pitch except centre forward, where we are close to signing a 20 year old who is already in the Sweden team, and are after one more to sign as well.

A lot of that the proof will be in the pudding, but don't get me wrong we've done fantastic business this summer, much better than we could've hoped for.

Relative to where we were though with the objective of getting promoted from League 1 we really couldn't have done any better that year. To basically build an entirely new team and have every one of those signings fit seamlessly into it right from day one, it was incredible really.

This could potentially end up being as good, and we've signed some very good looking young players we could end up getting big fees for, but it's a bit early to be saying that yet. You don't know how it will go, how players will develop.

Plus, it's not over yet! We don't get in another striker and lose Flint today and suddenly it doesn't look quite so great

You're right, all makes for an interesting day today. Hopefully we sign 2 strikers today, looks like it might just be one though.

Grabban signed for Bristol City on loan.

You'll love his pace and workrate, you'll hate his abismal finishing.

Nothing confirmed at our end? just the odd rumour.

TalkSport reported it as complete, bet I appreciate that's not the most reliable. But it's definitely a go-er.

No, I don't think this actually went through in the end??
It didn't. This morning Mark Ashton said we'd rather be 1 short than have someone who would disrupt the squad.
May or may not have been about Grabban, guess we'll never know.

That's not a big deal then, should be back after the international break.

Had a drunken chat last night with my City fan mate about who's bigger, Blackburn or Bristol City.

I went with Blackburn

That was my argument. He wasn't having any of it though.

Might be why.... Hard to argue against the point at the moment, should Blackburn drop a level and struggle in years to come the gap would get a lot closer though.

Bristol City, just compare attendances when in the same league.

The Wednesday
Bristol City or multiple major trophy winners, albeit from a small provincial town.... hhm.

Club size is about so much more than attendances. Its about pedigree, history and actually doing something on the pitch. Of course Blackburn are a bigger club than us.
Not in my opinion, just shows an overachieving small club.

Or lower than normal attendances are a sign of a larger club going through some bad time (ie Venky's) which will have a significant affect upon their attendances. Not hard to think if Venky's either weren't controlling Rovers or actually did a decent job by the club they would have larger attendances.

Or a club within a close radius of many european giants?? Perhaps one day we could be seen as the bigger club but not by the current generation.

For me being a big club and a successful club are different things. I'd say Newcastle for example are in the top 5 or 6 clubs in England despite being in the 2nd tier and winning very little.

If you were to look at the size of perhaps a local sportsclub then you'd look at how many members it has. The same is true of football. Just look at the membership.

So for that reason I'd say Bristol City and Blackburn are very similar sized clubs but one has been much much more successful.

It's just hit me that 5 of the team from last night (Fielding, Flint, Bryan, Pack and Reid) were in the side that was bottom of League 1 under O'Driscoll just 3 years ago.

Crazy to think how much we've come on in such a short space of time

Urgh, we were bad. I've had City v Rovers saved on the Sky box for ages - watched it the other night. Harewood, O'Connor, Shorey amongst others - bloody hell. How far we've come.
